If you're strictly steam 98UM and 2002UM would be better for learning the game as XIV is more closely related to them gameplay-wise, sadly the netcode isn't good. If not try 98 and 2002 on fightcade. Not even close. For one, EX moves, in MAX Mode that is. MAX activation cancel that works a la HD activation cancel. EX supers are still there, which weren't in OG KOF until 96, and Neomax-like supers are now called Climaxes. You had similar things in previous games like HSDMs or whatever, but in later games of the series. Staple KOF96-on-up mechanics are present from rolling to ways of jumping, and the bar is more like advanced mode than 94/95/96's charge bar or low life flashing, and you activate to access EXes instead of a general power boost.
