I played Akuma in every SF game so I'm not sure if I should be playing Ryu or Ken right now, I've been alternating them.
Had some sessions against a friends Juri tonight. Great cross up game, not a fan of much else.

Ibuki no, Rog yes.
Story mode is good camp. Karin has way more importance than she needs but there's some good moments and delicious jokes and callbacks. Alex is set up to be protag of III albeit in passing.Big reveal at the end.
I haven't tried either outside story, but Urien is perfect.
Only play battle lounges, not of help.

Her kunais are only good if they manage to hit the feet, most of her safe strings require two whiffs, and she has absolutely no mix-up game without using her bomb. For the godlike amount of prediction/reads and "training" your opponent to do things, she does not give you the equivalent reward.
It's like a technical guess-work character without a pay-off. She's garbage unless they rework her.

His dash is quite terrible, you'll be punished immediately. Iron Body is best for reads into spd. Not necessarily fireball absorbs thats f.hp's job

Headbutt or neutral jump for fireballs. 3P Lariat is fine, it's best combo ender. If anything just make it ALWAYS hit crouching oponents

Cause Capcom is playing too safe with SFV which is a big problem of the game in general. A potentially fun v skill would fuck up the balance for them so they won't do it. Which is shit cause they can't have some really fun or interesting ones. You know that Charlie's original V skill was an air dash? That's the ideas they were coming up with and thought "Nah that might make him too good" scarping it. Having your initial version of the game be this balanced especially for Capcom is a double edge sword. Good thing is your game is already pretty well balanced. Yay! Bad thing is your game isn't as fun as it should be because you went for the best balance out of the gate without making sure your game is enjoyable first. Boo.

I see people talking about which characters suck and which characters are the best in these threads often.
Is this typical /v/ shittery, or is the balance in SFV actually a problem? I arrived late to the competitive scene so I didn't really get to play USFIV competitively, but I heard practically every fighter was viable in that game. Is it not the same here? The competitive viability of every character makes Street Fighter very appealing to me because I hate boring ass games where the meta revolves around maybe 3 characters total.

SFV has a third of the roster, but it seems more balanced than Vanilla SFIV was. Zangief and FANG are pretty trash, Ryu, Chun, and Nash are pretty great, everybody else falls in the middle.

Main is Ibuki, I just love her I always main her. I just picked this up last week, I play SF casually. Hate when I get matched with WAY more experienced players, it's the absolute worst. But I enjoy the learning experience of getting better.

I understand tiers, how they're formed, and the purpose they served, but I despise it when people use a tier list as a measure of how good or bad a character is overall when tiers are more about matchups and win rates. Correlation does not equal causation and all of that. I also think that just because a character seems to have quite a few unfavorable matchups, it doesn't make them unplayable, it just means you might have to adapt to those bad matches and work a little harder than other people might have to.
For what it's worth, I wish people would discuss characters and how to play them apart from defining them by tier lists. In a way, I guess I wish tiers didn't exist as a community implementation. I've taken a liking to Bison and Balrog in SFV and I'm honestly not interested in hearing about how good or bad people think they are, I just want to know the most efficient ways to play them and get to that point.

Vega is one of the harder characters to play due to lack of options in the corner, but he's got solid damage, pokes, and mobility. I honestly don't recommend playing him if you're new to Street Fighter.

Survival is a grind sure, but character trials and demonstrations alone, along side just survivals easy mode AND character story prologues will net you enough for 4. Factor in general story on both extra and normal and you have almost enough for another.
Normal survival with even a few characters will make up that difference.

That's not what I'm saying. Survival is a chore, I agree. But locking FM behind it isn't a problem, colors are another story, especially when you have to do it with each costume.
You play the game, you get the in game currency. That's not an issue. The amount they charge for stages and costumes is a concern however, and the lack of payout or daily challenges is a problem.

It's a question of whether the opponent can be grabbed or not. You're probably doing it while they're in hitstun or blockstun, in which case the grab (command or not) will always whiff. Hitstun is I think what you mean by damage animation, it's after your attack hits and the opponent can't do anything. Blockstun is when your attack is blocked and the opponent can't do anything.
Crouching doesn't really have anything to do with command grabs.

I just dislike the 8f delay alittle bit its adaptable but it needs polishing. As for the core game itself i'm very unimpressed at how things have turned out. Most matchups feel like
1. Play neutral for a minute or so at most
2. Person who wins neutral gets momentum
3. Person blocking usually without a reversal has to guess between meaty strike/strike/throw/throw loop potentially/shimmy/jump bait/jump throw bait.
All with just v-reversal if they potentially block something that could just be a light block stun move to purposely bait out v-trigger. I also dislike shit like Ryu OS's/sometimes even reactions/Alex Parry and some other cases where people have learned flat out cancels to punish v-reversals.
Momentum is so guessy in the favor of the rushdown side its almost like setplay in SF4 now but not quite as annoying. But the limited amount of tools being just 1 unless you have a DP to risk make it feel worse.
I don't recall rushdown ever feeling like this in Alpha or 3s. Maybe because the defensive mechanics in those games were good? And not this 15-20f average crap burst at best.

In the case of footsies you have to pretty much read ranges people will normally press a button and preemptive whiff punish. Throwing out fast recover pokes is easier if you have them like Karin because its harder to punish her and they're good.
In the case of tech throws even offline alot of the time you just have to guess based off the timing and feel.
Anyone pretending most MUs in SFV are footsies heavy is fooling themselves. People like Phenom winning majors will flat out tell you SFV is a momentum game and footsies lasts like half a second.
It has many factors but the 8f delay that extra 3-4f is definitely the biggest one. After that comes most characters being somewhat stubby compared to most SF games and then comes alot of characters having mediocre AAs besides the ones with dps/mashable st jabs on reaction to anyone jumping near them.
Seriously right after 8f delay the st jabs in this game are my biggest problem that needs polish. Ryu Nash Alex etc hit above their head with some invisible hitbox nonsense and get a fucking plus as god tier meaty strike throw mixup after it. Nash can fucking Dash after max distance on and get that.

For starters, it's generic, anime, moe-blob stuff. Secondly, while I might not agree with every costume choice, I do like how they're trying to retain the character original images even in their swimwear. Cammy has her utility belt, Ibuki still has the ninja scarf, etc.

I'd advise learning all the characters in a general sense (learn about their normals, specials, gameplan, etc) and master one character that you "feel at home" with. You'll see progress much quicker that way and frankly, it's nearly impossible to master every character in the game.
To answer your question, both. Spend some time in training mode learning your basics, jump into a game and get bodied, then go back into training to figure out why. Rinse and repeat.
