there are really no good cyberpunk games as much as everyone enjoys the A E S T H E T I C for whatever reason but you can expect a rash of bethesda writing wow thts deep bioshock tier cyberpunk games after cyberpunk 2077 is a success
I need more games with space horror.
I already have SS2 and Alien: Isolation.
>>344010719

>>344010617
Is playing as a cop torn between duty, government orders and megacorp threats a deconstruction of cyberpunk?
>>344012031
Blade Runner is the visual father of cyberpunk. You play a cop in that. Infact playing a cop you get to see the full picture of the nasty dystopian things found in a cyberpunk setting.
>>344011663
Diesel/steampunk have great potential, but have yet to be realized properly. Too many tumblr wannabe writers who aren't really willing to dig into the tech side of the Victorian era, instead they write thinly veiled fantasy.
Excluding Jules Verne, of course. Crimson Skies was tolerable as well.
>>344011243
>implying Routine is still in development
>>344011663
I said diesel punk you fucking idiot.
>>344012003
Who the fuck said anything about steampunk you literal retard?
>>344012351
i think whatever potential diesel/steampunk had were handled during their respective time periods. steampunk under jules verne was so successful because he was projecting where he thought technology might one day go following the technology of the time. cyberpunk similarly is a projection of where all the electronics of the later 20th century and early 21st century might one day go. cyberpunk is way more prescient and relevant to us today than steampunk ever will be.
Cyberpunk is no longer cool, it's become corporate. What's the next schism? The next good setting that hasn't been done to death like High Fantasy and now Cyberpunk have? I want to say something psychadelic or drug centered. That really puckers /v/'s asshole and would keep it pure, for a whiles anyway.
>>344012573
I personally think that the reason cyberpunk is so popular currently is because how closely it resembles the current trends of the world.
Also, honestly I think cyberpunk is a lot more about the themes that most of cyberpunk media shares instead of simply the visual and audio style, while most steampunk stuff has degenerated into mostly a tacky fashion statement.

-Great music
-Great world
-Pretty good stealth gameplay
-Numerous districts in the city and each district is big. Imagine an isometric map that just keeps going and going. Which makes it really amazing when you go directly from infiltrating a corporation with your team to walking into markets packed with civilians.
-Varied gameplay. Accommodates both guns blazing and stealth.
Only problem I've had so far is that the upgrade tree for your team isn't too interesting and IMO (i'm still in the first district) the game's pretty forgiving if your team is caught in an enemy base.

I disagree. Steampunk is purely an aesthetic. All you can do with it is slap some gears on things that already exist. There is no room for creativity or doing something unique. That may be true but come on, you can't take a cult classic like that and turn it into CoD. I think it was also supposed to at least be a tactical team-based shooter before EA demanded they change it. It could've been so much more both because of the IP and the studio handling it. Cyberpunk is great, shame it's not an aesthetic/setting that has a strong following. NeoTokyo was one of the best fps games/mods for its time. Real shame the title never caught on.

Whether the answer is yes or no, we clearly need a game based on Deltron 3030.

I know I didn't buy it at first because it was an EA published thing and I knew it was going to get reamed somehow. But someone I know into cyberpunk had me try it out and for what it was rather than what it should of been it was still pretty decent.
Also COD not to knock on it has oddly taken a turn toward sci-fi. The irony is the whole force on force focus of the games tends to ignore how closely a mechanic job in the military kind of mirrors cyberpunk themes which would probably sound kind of odd to people and I don't really want to go into. Syndicate is kind of guilty of the COD effect though with Agents being top tier fighter/operators, it's like your fighters arn't going to be the guys hacking tech and shit. They get the fancy sci fi high tech killing toys so it focus' more on that but it'd be so fucking boring if you were just a scrub technician in those games trying to carry out a mission because the techs are POGS and the operators are so physically top notch everything they do is solely based on combat. I really doubt the old syndicate really went toward the 'renascence man' on a dangerous journey risking everything on this mission with game skill development happening, rather than character has to fit trope/cliche to be part of team to push story progress let's try to fit the story to this walking trope.
I love what I've heard about the old syndicate but being in the boots of a character in these stories trying to tackle a predefined level (that doesn't have multiple options to tackle it like Knights of the Old Republic gave with repairing a bot, checking out a security camera and exploding a terminal by your target, or triggering some base defense thing blocking your path) you get a generic team based play like you're a healer, you're a faggot when it comes to killing enemies, you watch other people killing stuff and try to not let them die. Or ranger, you're a faggot at melee....
>continued
>>344023471
that sort of gameplay just sucks for the individual when you're in a predefined encounter without the im going to run this thing i just thought up by the DM and roll for it. Rather you're just like the faggot melee guy with no options to roll anything besides meleeing stuff.
it's stale in a cyberpunk world.
>>344023471
>Also COD not to knock on it has oddly taken a turn toward sci-fi.
True. Blops 3 especially was pretty cool in that regard. But it's such a shame that they're now setting these games in these interesting settings with some great visual design as well and then just have you rush through a couple of corridors from setpiece to setpiece with no real time to pay attention to your surroundings or learn much about the world.
>>344024245
I guess it really just depends on the person. Like in this regard I think the first Dead Space was honestly really cyberpunk and still did pretty good with the shooty bits, visual design, level design, learning the lore, paying attention, and the character sort of being an everyman that's like well im an engineering faggot not a projectile shooting faggot but i better punch this necromorph or shoot it while i get this stuff to build a thermite device to get through this area, instead of just being an engineering faggot that sucks at fighting necromorphs and is mostly useless until it comes to building the device

Which is strange, because Blade Runner specifically mentions the colonization of Mars and the other planets.
It's not just mentioned in Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, but is mentioning in the movie as well. The whole basis of the film is that some rogue Replicant's illegally come to Earth, from one of the colonies.
I see no reason space exploration can't exist in a cyberpunk world, it would be best used in passing or to stress how big the gap between the elite and the low-lifes of society really is, like in the image you were replying to. Not sure why people would have a problem with it.
>>344025731
Dead space had a lot of cyberpunk elements.
Corporation up to no good.
High tech low life.
Discovering the conspiracy of what the corporation was up to trying to make a profit
getting double crossed by an agent planted in the corporation
who cares about cyborgs, he had an space suit that got upgraded with technology and armor instead of his limbs but pretty much it was an extension of himself.
The spaceship had computer terminals and stuff like minigames that are the kind of thing a cyberpunk would have to deal with to get through seeing how it was a man made technostructure.
engineering on his weapons with nodes had its own mini game it was sort of like hacking/splicing modifications onto his tech
there were lots of elements there just calling it survival horror is like all focus'd on the necromorphs and really over looks any other game elements, every game is a fucking survival game 0 hp is probably game over if you know what i mean.

well i mean survival horror, it's that way because of the necromorphs which call into question the nature of humanity which that one hostile anon mentioned. When I played through it I thought sci fi like the movie alien. I never really considered it cyberpunk but it really fits to me now that I think about it since it really has the elements there if you read into the lore since being a blue collar worker like a engineer in space isn't exactly high-society and with the plot going on i'd so it's sunk from middle class to low life.
>>344027392
well blade runners always been lumped around with cyberpunk really philip k dick was with heinlein like two of the most major mind shapers along with asmov, herbert, and one writer whos name just popped in my mind and out i shouldnt start drinking this early im going to lose my point .. that cyberpunk always has sci fi elements going in it and they really are a big part behind a lot of the sci fi stuff that's coming about now in the real world and what people think is on the horizon that seems realistically possible with current technology and research.
plus a lot of cyberpunk started back before this technology existed the 'experts' on the subject would probably have to throw in so many new subjects and concepts let alone philosophical and what they consider political current events and where it might go it's just really fucking blunt to define cyberpunk the way it would of been when this image >>344015048
was cyberpunk. i always poke my nose into cyberpunk threads when im around and discussion about some of the tech in there about those specific models of tech, their previous application, replacements, obsolescence doesn't really fly in any of these threads.

Prey 2 is dead
bethesda is making a different game called just Prey
Since it's a Cyberpunk thread, could I get some thoughts on something?
Currently working on loosely-cyberpunk story, might make it a game, or a comic, not sure at this moment.
It's a police/detective type of story, where the main character works for an organization that deals with tracking down and destroying advanced AI/robotics and anyone that may build, harbor, or otherwise be associated with them.
That said, the usefulness of AI/robots is hard to ignore, even by the organization tasked with destroying them, and as such they assign all human agents/detectives with a robotic partner. (The MC's partner is a slightly older model, far from top of the line)
The setting mainly takes place on a terraformed, but struggling Mars, where greed and poverty run rampant. I wanted the location to be unsettling and unfamiliar to the MC, who was previously a police officer on Earth before joining this organization.
The story revolves around questioning the line between AI and humanity, his role in this world, and him questioning and trying to come to terms with who he works for/what he's doing.

Depend on how philosophical you'd like to get but you should read Wittgenstein's Philosophical Investigations. If you don't want to read the whole thing then look up the parts where he talks about the reading machine. It's a very good analysis of what it means to ask the question as to whether or not there is a line between AI and humanity. A lot of top AI people know Wittgenstein and you should too if you're going to write a story about it.
Additionally you might draw some inspiration from Gibson's Neuromancer if you haven't already since the Turing Police are what you seem to be describing. They get brief mentions. Also Bladerunner obviously.
Also do you really need to go with the trope of the cop coming from a different district thing?
Other questions I'm interested in (You don't need to answer them but some things that got me thinking.):
Why is there poverty on Mars? Working class shipped up there to develop it?
Why have robot police partner? Will moral questions be addressed like how the AI makes decisions to kill (utilitarianism vs deontology vs some machine learning virtue ethics?)?
Why would the AI need to be physically tracked down? If AI was advanced enough to become a problem to be hunted why wouldn't they exist in cyberspace a la Neuromancer? Why does embodiment even matter?
>>344032112
oh woah that's totally different. man the thing with bethesda is like oblivion vs skyrim. the stuff they did with npc's in oblivion was fucking amazing. skyrim kept it a little bit but it switched more to the quest giver radiant thing. I hope they move more toward things not being automatically hostile or docile everywhere and more reactive in ways like they had things set up to move around the cities in oblivion. how the imperial city functioned in that game was just brilliant for game play opportunities. maybe im biased since most of my thieves guild career was centered there and I got to explore it a lot between the scripted quests. not that i'll probably get a chance to play pray if it's not ported to pc.

the robots are rarely encountered and more of a boogeyman tale if they are not wrecking fucking everything. hard to ignore means your character doesnt want all fucking clankers stomped because their a serious fucking problem but not green goblin mob repainted purple for higher level type shit.
mars will not be terraformed unless someone figures out how to give it a stronger magnetic field and/or move its orbit. it doesnt have enough gravity do you have any god damn idea of how big of an ecology you're fucking with? please write to every famous science guy you can think of after you've exhausted every idea to make it possible in an economic way to ask how much effort its going to take for your batshit idea to work after you looked up and thought of every idea you can think of to make that work. greed and poverty probably don't work the way you think they do and if its a facsimile of current allagory for some political thing that's pretty much a fucking meme beating a dead horse kind of thing trying to break the 4th wall like deadpool you're going to get stalked and threatened constantly by people in real life because even if you were right on some off chance that's a really gay story for the future and you fucking deserve it.
why does your "MC" suck so bad he can't get top of the line?
AI and humanity, really fucking that's the entire theme. AI discovers it wants to suck someones cock and the story centers around it trying to get a mouth to shove a cock in it. MC moves to orlando in the recent year.

I'll look up Philosophical Investigations, and I recently picked up Neuromancer, intend to read it soon. I've been trying to read up on these sort of subjects, so I appreciate the recommendation.
For the different district thing, I suppose it isn't required. I just happen to have an innate interest in Mars as a setting, but I suppose there's no reason the character couldn't be from there as well.
And sure I don't mind questions, I tried to write that description as simply and succinctly as I could to avoid a wall of text, it unfortunately came out rather vague.
>Why is there poverty on Mars?
Mars was in the midst of an economic boom and development when the decision to outlaw advanced robotics came down. They were hit hard by it, with a large portion of the work force on Mars being robotic or AI controlled.
The economy collapsed, and the few human workers planetside at the time weren't enough to keep things working, and even when workers were shipped in to try and get things back up and running, it ended up being too little too late. Most large industries and corps left for other planets/asteroid mining, and what few industries exist on Mars are not enough to employ the number of workers that were shipped to Mars, and few can afford to go back to Earth.
>Why have robot police partner?
To keep each other in check, effectively. The robotic partners are more or less to make sure the moral failings of the human partner don't get in the way, or at least that's the idea behind it.
So you are correct, the questions raised are by how the AI decides to kill, as well as how the MC reacts around and in regards to having a robotic partner in general. (At the moment, I'm imagining most people, even the MC, have a propaganda-fueled fear or skepticisim of AI/robots)
I'll continue the rest in a next post.

Continued:
>Why would the AI need to be physically tracked down?
At the point in the story, robots/AI have been hunted meticulously for years. They exist few and far between, usually in physical forms or small isolated peer-to-peer type networks not connected to networks at large.
From the perspective of the MC, it almost feels like there aren't many more robots to hunt down, and it might be coming to an end. Initially he is taking down isolated robots, small-time illegal manufacturers, etc.
But eventually he gets a glimpse that there is something far more sophisticated and plotting at work, and in particular comes across an robot far more advanced than anything that had been known to exist before the ban.
I really appreciate the questions though, it's getting me to think more about things I haven't.

Not the guy who you were responding to and I haven't even played the game in question but having a robust feature list is not the same thing as well-rounded, release-tier, deep and dare I say it FUN (what a buzzword) gameplay
THis is oP and watch dogs is NOT cyberpunk. its fagpunk.

if you unironically mention DIVERSITY as an actual feature in your game you are automatically sjw trash. no excetions.

The other 3 are pretty vague and subjective terms, but let me elaborate on
>deep
then.
There are a lot of factors that go into the gunplay and vehicle physics in Brigador, and they work well together at balancing all the possible loadouts and making nearly every one of them viable, and more importantly most of these don't work by RPG-like numbercrunching or spreadsheets, but are subtle and seemlessly integrated into the gameworld. Getting to grips with all the systems in the game requires quite a bit of practice and thought, and they allow for a pretty wide variety of playstyles.
If you take a look at the Steam threads you'll see people with dozens of hours in the game dismiss entire weapon and vehicle categories as useless and underpowered, just for others to praise them as their favourites.

Definetly pick up Shadow run, very good gameplay, very tactical, the story is alright and the game has a nice pace at least the first one. Altough i tought it was kinda rushed near the end of the game.
I'm just waiting patiently for more Shadowrun.
