so, what about the english dub? I turned it off after a couple hours because I couldn't stand it anymore (the screams especially felt unexpressive and fake, while the japanese VAs really poured their hearts out)

People say there are a couple of really great moments though, what about them? Something about Skull Face

is there a secret ending or something or was that it? i remember there being some weird locker in a puzzle room but i didn't have to open it to complete it. Kinda wish they didn't make new shit up for brother and made him actually do stuff and also have them acknowledge Mira being a serial killer

My "moment that made me feel like an idiot" was ever thinking ZTD would be good. Why did reviewers pretend that this was a great game or even a masterpiece? It'd be one thing if it was just "the next game" but it's the last one and a terrible ending to the series.

Well, he created a plan that:
>Saved mankind
>Created a loop that secured his and Phi's birth with the abilities intact
>Even if he did not manage to save all of manking, he would still be able to prevent their extinction and put the AB plan in motion

So retarded he was not.
But considering it all began with him taking an interest in Shifters, there might be some autism there.

What was absolutely retarded was the reveal that we were looking at everyone through Q's eyes and he was just sitting there the whole fucking time.
Just make him Xavier people's perceptions. Hell, one of the standoff endings is called 'Perception'.

>>
>>344014406
What the hell happened to him in VLR?
>>
>>344014904
It's retarded because both 999 and VLR twists completely change how you were interpreting the plot (A old dude was trying to fug young girls, June was a keikakumaster, you weren't on a ship) while "lol an old dude was skillfully avoiding the camera during all cutscenes" did not add anything to the plot
He also had no reason at all to be on Q team since the teams were mostly independent and he did not interact with anyone, so he never did anything important while both Akane and Sigma really needed to be participants for their plans to work
>>
>>344015992

Actually he needed to be there so he could be identified and confronted in the event the bunker people were going to get the outcome where they all escaped.
>>
>>344015921

So what's the deal?

- Many taglines for ZTD was that it would be the series final game.

- Game ends with closure for certain characters, sure; yet it opens a new can of worms in the end.

Does Uchikoshi expect fans to make another noise to convince Spike Chunsoft to make more games?
>>
>>344016129
He could just open the X-door and talk to them like he did in other endings
The only thing he managed is to die in all timelines where he was executed/showered with acid

>>344016214
She came up with the idea of using a bomb, and that created the VLR timeline that is needed for old sigma to participate in VLR and seducing Diana
>>
>>344016321
No they expect to make profit from the remasters of 999 and VLR.
>>
>>344016321

>Akane, Sigma and Phi were fucking useless

>Akane
Well yeah, stopping her from doing anything was what had to be altered.

>Sigma

>Phi
She just came extra with who Sigma's balls produced.
>>
>>344016317
>Carlos creates tthe timeline where R6 isn't released in a coin toss
>Akane, Sigma and Phi were fucking useless

No, because the timeline without R6 leads to 100% human casualty without Akane, Sigma and Phi's experiences taking the group there, as well as Sigma fucking Diana to create Phi and Delta in the first place.

Also whining that plot devices from previous games whose purpose has been served don't appear on-screen is stupid. This series is about random people trapped in a puzzle labyrinth escaping, not police raids.
>>
So why is there only one timeline where nobody gets executed?
Doesn't the plan also work if everyone does the opossite of what the original plan said?
>>
>>344016554
>No, because the timeline without R6 leads to 100% human casualty without Akane, Sigma and Phi's experiences taking the group there, as well as Sigma fucking Diana to create Phi and Delta in the first place.
Carlos and the cast creates a timeline where VLR happened to kickstart ZTD, but it won't happen now.

It's a loop of different timelines that eventually phases out VLR from actually happening in the History ZTD ends in.

Delta made that two realties would just happen and ensure his birth, then he makes the Decision Game to make a perfect timeline where he succeeds.
>>

Why doesn't anyone from Q-Team ever mention that Q isn't on the painting in the library or Sean's name isn't on the X-Pass board? You'd think those would have been pretty significant talking points.
>>
>>344016805
Zero had two plans.

- Gets Radical-6 released, people can just die in the Game, doesn't matter who, he just has to release the virus; VLR happens.

- Super Power of Friendship and SHIFting trought multiple timelines till they succeed, everyone lives, no Radical-6, Zero ensured a group of Super SHIFTers that are super friends will one day get the person who will make humanity go extinct, VLR never happens.

>>
>>344017513
You don't have to make excuses for the game to protect its shitty twist, anon.
>>
>>344017058

I actually assumed it was Delta. Since it was Kyle in VLR, and he's Sigma's son like Delta was. Also since Akane puts on the robe in the VLR route and follows Zero's information to set up the moonbase, then it'd stand to reason that she'd probably use the morphogenetic field to contact him in the past and give him information too about the AB game so he could replicate it and give her the idea, and allow both her and Old Akane to plan out the true route.

>>
>>344017867
I hate how no one batted an eye at the revelation that aliens exist and hang out on Earth enough to leave their junk behind. You'd think the characters wouldn't have taken that info so matter of factly. Randomly throwing in aliens so haphazardly reeks of laziness, like they didn't want to put in the effort to come up with a legitimate reason they had magic time travel plot devices, so they just said "Fuck it, it's aliens lol".
>>
>>344017675
Eh, Delta can't jump. Kyle whitching places with him makes no sense they are not the same person.

The rest makes snese I guess mindhacking explain the Blick Winkel gimmick.
Also, I have all the endings but I never got to see how mira killed junpei or Why?

Also, can someone explain how Mira was an accomplice to Zero, she should have thrown fits at Q when her life started to be threatened.

>>
>>344017936
That's just an excuse, they don't even question if what is being sent over is essentially a fake, they treat it all as real as soon as it comes out of the pod.

They treat Phi and Delta as real people, even though the "real" ones died as babies, starved to death.

She wasn't, anyone who says this is a retard.

Delta just gave Mira more freedom:

- She doesn't actually get injected with sleeping anesthesics sometimes.
- Can traverse between the Wards sometimes.

To create more Danger Scenarios in order to create SHIFTers; Delta just jokes Mira was an accomplice of sorts when explaining himself, but in truth she was a pawn with certain freedom.
>>
>>344018208
She killed Junpei because she's fucking crazy. She's not actually Q's accomplice, he just didn't put her to sleep along with everyone else so she could roam and kill whenever she wanted. He basically used her as the wild card or chaos element of the game.

I honestly thought it was a good twist. In 999 Zero is Akane, the girl the MC is closest to so that trains the player to suspect even their best friends. In VLR Zero in the shelter itself is just a computer system and even the killer, Dio, is a victim of the machinations of outsiders, so the player can now conceive that the mastermind is an external force.

The blind spot for the third game lies between those two points. Zero in ZTD is a participant in the game, but he's hidden from the player by the most sneaky method of withholding information- the characters don't acknowledge him, and why would they? He's a blind old man in a wheelchair. To the player, suspicion would automatically fall upon him because a useless, mute character would be obviously Zero, but in the real world the characters wouldn't even think to suspect someone who's obviously disabled and useless and whose existence they were already aware of. So they show that by using the perspective of the story to hide his existence, without having him literally come out of nowhere.

Q's always there, he's even referred to in dialogue to hint at his existence. But you don't know because you're playing the game from the perspective of people who wrote him off days earlier.

I like that and the reveal was cool. If you quote my post and say I'm retarded that's fine too. My motives are complex, after all.

>NO ONE talk about him
>But they do.

They mention him directly ONCE, and it wasn't even about him being there, just at Dcom. Face it, it;s a lazy and dumb twist. Why did we never see them wheeling him around? Did they just neglect a deaf mute the whole time? Why wasn't he in any of the multiple wide shots of Q-Team? Why wasn't he on the painting in the library? Why did no one wonder why Sean's name wasn't on the X-Pass board and why there were more people playing the game than potential X-passes?

It's a lazy plot twist that's full of pretty major holes.

Well that's the thing though. The game's pretty solidly from the PoVs of Carlos, Diana and Sean. They don't show him because he's not registering on their interest. Diana and Carlos don't know anything about Zero the matermind kidnapper, and Sean is a robot who could easily be programmed to not notice Q easily.

Also. it really pissed me iff how the game bends over backwards to make sure none of the characters never call Sean by name until the Delta reveal, but afterwards it can't stop saying it over and over like it's so smugly proud of itself.

"Hey, this is Sean. Sean's a robot. That's just Sean for ya. To Sean. Sean!"
>>
>>344019076

i think sean not being on the x-passes is suspicious as fuck, and it's why eric is fucking angry about sean.
mira doesn't care because she's a psycho and nothing phases her. i got a lot more understanding of eric's character when i understood that sean really was unaccounted for and appeared suddenly.

the nine portraits in the library i agree with was a bit of a fuckup. if it's zero's study, and there are pictures of everyone but one person in there, then it's pretty obvious that person would be zero. so idk what they thought there.
>>
>>344018789
COMPLEX MOTIVES
>>
>>344018558
Actually, Q-Team probably wouldn't solve a single puzzle if Sean wasn't there. The one Team where all hinges on a single person.
>>
>>344019214
>Just reawatch the Q-Team's cinematics, many scenes hint on Delta's presence.

They don't even discuss his persona.
>>
>>344019356
Probably a limb, his facial expression wasn't neutral, so he probably woke up from the sheer pain and adrenaline.
>>
>>344019318

His chair looked automated, also they could have just left him on the first floor. Not like he would have been any help up on the landing.

>>344019361

Actually you can get Eric to recognize Sean if you type it during the "who killed mira" bit, so it's still there. Also they timed it with the character development, so that Eric would treat Sean poorly until they became friendlier and started using his name.
>>
>>344019397
Yeah, but the point isn't "does it explain motives" it's why does no one actually mention it once. Remember, Eric and Mira can's shift, so every time they wake up and see the X-pass board they should mention that Sean isn't there, but it never happens in the game because such an obvious and natural conversation would ruin the flimsy twist.
>>
>>344019197

but they've spent five days learning not to think about him.
five days to realize there's fucking nothing to him.
>>
>>344011070
Sean will never leave if Gab is alive.
>>
>>344019197
>That already makes him most suspicious guy
Except not, the Dcon representative introduced him as a poor oldman that got everyone pitying him from the get go; while Sean was a kid that came out of nowhere;

Eric and his manchilld behavior would suspect the person who came out of nowhere, not the old man who was accounted for and was already stabilished as someone who couldn't harm a fly.

they do mention him, although sparsely.
once they remember him being in DCOM, and nother time they mention poor q dying while being both deaf and blind.
yes he's been there the entire time.
also it's reasonable to think since the dcom test is a civilian test kind of thing, having someone who is both elderly and handicapped would be good for testing. eric mentions something about why they picked people like them without skills for the test.
>>
>>344020234

Their dialogue in certain scenes reference the backstory, and the epilogue has Sean leading Mira and Eric to the transporter and saying she can go back and fix things.

The implication is they go back and Mira and Eric end up getting married and having a nice family in a timeline before she became a murderer, but ironically gets murdered by herself in that timeline, leading to Eric abusing his son (Eric) and creating a loop.

>>344021954
Figuring out what shapes where which numbers was great.

Translating the 5 symbol code into a 4 symbol code was bullshit. I thought 5 symbols next to each other meant you had to multiply them? And all of a sudden, when you look for a 5 symbol combination for, let's say, 56789, you aren't supposed to find a combination that would make that number when multiplied; you're simply supposed to use the symbol for 5, then 6, then 7, etc., even though 5*6*7*8*9 does not equal 56789.

>>
I had a lot of trouble figuring out specifically what they wanted me to do with the math room.

The math switching from being multiplicative to additive really messed me up right in the middle of the puzzle.

I had to literally look up two puzzles. The glow in the dark code under the drain cap. I had closed the drain cap because I realized I was going to have to flood the place, and had no idea what I could have missed.

Next, I had to look up "Bird cage" since I had been typing "birdcage" and just couldn't understand what it wanted me to do write.

Finally, I didn't understand the pills/sorting the fetus puzzle at all, so I just brute forced it.

Uchi said he made ZE3 towards westerner, because 999 and VLR bombed in Japan. That's also why he changed format from VN to cinematic telltale games, because he thought that was more popular in the west.
>>
>>344022561
Who said they didn't? They shifted and left to their clones bodies in the universe where they starve.
The clones have no way of knowing this though. Since they shift happened before they woke up, so they just think they are the originals who weren't teleported.

I think the point of it was that the device represents the inevitable result of morphogenetic field research- it's a machine that replicates the ability to transmit information between timelines. Such a machine was always going to exist at some point, and by the nature of spacetime travel can possibly be built in any time period. You just need the knowledge.

Hell, up in the ice? I wonder who might be responsible- pic related

>>
>>344025882
The fragment system just leads to seeing the same thing over and over. Seeing a bunch of unrelated deaths doesn't develop the story in an interesting way. The decisions are weak because unlike the previous games, they have no relation to the story flow. Making a decision has no impact because what you'll see next is just a matter of what random fragment you choose, not what decision you made. You can't make a choice and stick with it until you reach and ending or a stopping point. And controlling all of the teams removes any kind of tension in the games that pit them all against each other.

No, the fragment system is shit because it transformed the game into a tick the box simulator. Nothing you did mattered because you could escape easily from your certain death and switch place with another version of you without any restriction other than "oh well, fuck it whatever".

It felt like a chore to tick all the boxes so you could see the ending.

They shouldnt have shown the whole roadmap since the beginning of the game. And they should have limited Shifting somehow so decisions mattered. In fact, Id be fine with only Sigma knowing how to shift while Phi only being able to gather information from dead ends but without the ability to shift.

Kyle is a clone of Sigma.

He and Sigma jumped to the same body and became one. This is how Uchikoshi will explain it.
>>
>>344027895

VLR was a tick the box simulator too, you had to do pretty much every decision to find the way to progress.

Yeah, I never thought that it was 100%. I was just asking if I got a 10% unlucky guess or if getting it wrong the first time is a scripted event, like with the dice rolls. (Or, as far as I know, the coin toss being a win the first time you play it.)
>>
>>344027765
I hated that shit too. I like the more out of the box thinking for puzzles, or ones that are traditional sort of point and click stuff. The alien room was just tedious. I said fuck it and looked up a guide. Same as I did with the sudoku puzzle in 999. I'm not shitting on those kinds of puzzles. I'm sure some love 'em. I just find them tedious and not that fun to deal with though.

Outside of that I was flipping my shit in the fucking healing room because I had no idea what to do. I had tried everything. What I missed? Pulling the lever to get the camera. Because I had tried pulling the lever before the power to the machine had turned on, and never tried pulling it again. Felt rather stupid there.

Why didnt Zero manipulated his way into the white house so he could disarm weapons? He could literally manipulate every law and decision made.

If he wanted he could disarm the whole world in a single UN meeting.

After making sure he was born in ZTD he could just walk into the white house and get shit done.

Althought I did waste a half hour after I got the answer doing more math, for some reason I kept adding the 4 symbol solutions BACK INTO the 5 symbol calculator, I must've did this at least 4 times.

For what purpose, I cannot say, I might've been trying to narrow down the numbers to a solid 4-digit combo, forgetting that there was 10-13 on the transcription

>>
>>344027979
Not him btw but
True VLR had those To be continued moments occasionally, most of the halts in progresson though were points where you actually needed knowledge from a different timeline in order to do something specific.
ZTD just sends you back to the team select screen for no real reason most of the time and scenes are unlocked when you see what you need to see, not when you see what you need to make progress.
>>
>>344028342
Uchikoshi himself said that both games were in the red. VLR was toned down in response of 999's poor sales.

Look it up. It's in one of the interviews he did before ZTD released.
>>
No maymays I actually liked this game.
I didn't even hate the aliens. I honestly thought that maybe Brother and FTS worshiped some crazy race of humanoids from a distant timeline or some shit. Too bad they didn't do anything with it.

I mean Zero Escape is crazy enough to do something like redeemed Mira being Erics mom, but at the same time it makes no sense whatsoever. She'd know what was coming there'd be no reason to just let her younger self go nuts.

If redeemed Mira is Erics mom would that make Eric his own father? That's just getting silly now.
>>
>>344026475
To fool the player into thinking Sean stayed for Gab.

Which would have made sense if Kevin or ? were in the game doing the whole representing the player thing. If, for example, when Kevin got sent to 2028 he ended up being stuck viewing the world through Delta's point of view, but able to transmit information to the team leaders or mind hack them, it would have made sense that Delta wouldn't ever directly look at himself on the cameras and go out of his way to fool the "player". Instead Kevin was dropped and we got bullshit.

Carlos was always able to shift. That was part of his story. Every time he'd go in to save people from a fire he knew exactly the right things to do.

Ever see Frequency with Dennis Quaid? His character as a firefighter dies when trying to save somebody. I think in a factory? His son ends up being able to talk to his father before that event using a ham radio. The son tells his father what to do to avoid dying in the father, thus saving his life. Now imagine you were a firefighter who could do this all the time? It was more like Carlos had been using and honing his skill for a long time without even knowing it, and being in the Decision game just made him aware of it.

VLR was toned down in an attempt to reach out to people who didn't buy 999, but that doesn't mean 999's sales were bad. Any company would want to increase sales, even if their current sales are good.

The claim that 999 was in the red in Japan makes little sense when Chunsoft immediately placed an order for two sequels, before there was any American release. Uchikoshi's said in interviews that 999 got sequels because it was well received, in Japan.

What was the point of Akane's master plan if its relegated to one history. I thought the series was leading up to changing all histories at some nexus point in history. Plus in the VLR history(in ZTD) her Kwisatz Haderach powers seem to just kick into overdrive, what caused that, plot or did she always have that level of foresight.
>>
>>344030935
Considering what happens with Eric and Mira, I'd say most people have some amount of esper potential. Some people are genetically (or epigenetically) given these powers, like Phi's shifting and Delta's mind hacking, and probably the communication abilities of the kids in 999. But then you have Junpei's powers being unlocked by the power of love, and Mira and Eric being able to latch on to the others shifting.

As for Diana, ????
>>
>>344030935
Diana and Carlos started learning about shifting in this game thanks to the decision games, just as we did in VLR with Sigma and Phi
Junpei and Akane do have esper powers as seen in 999, and as they mention espers/shifter when close together makes their power stronger, we have 6 inside the shelter so they could easily learn and abuse of shifting, hell they had enough power to shift eric and mira who don't even have the skill

>>
>>344032658

>>344031051
There is literal proof of the opposite.

http://www.geekster.be/games/kotaro-uchikoshi-creator-the-zero-escape-series-interview/
http://www.spike-chunsoft.co.jp/zendesu/weekly/zero/

999 released in Japan in December 2009. Chunsoft considered it successful, so they ordered two sequels on the DS in April 2010. At E3 in June 2010, the 3DS was announced, so development re-started for the new platform. All of that was well before the American release in November 2010. That makes it impossible for American sales to be the determining factor for why 999 got a sequel. A vague tweet doesn't mean much when all of this specific information proves otherwise.
>>
>>344032612
>>344032618
you're right, if it weren't for Mira I would have added useless but fact is she's pretty important to the story. Alice is both a useless cunt and a hateable one but I agree that Lotus was not so bad, just kind of pointless.

Also I have a question. If the ship back in 999 was studied to be exactly like the building where Akane was held and forced to play the nonary game, how in the name of christ did the kids manage to figure out the computer puzzle that lotus solves?
