what reason did he have to see them dead? it can't be a demon, a demon would be firing, even the demon on the far right with a worse chance to hit doomguy is firing, clearly the gun at the bottom if it'd been weld by a demon has a clear shot, it could only be a human who doesn't fire

that one next to doomguy is a cyberdemon it's pretty obvious.
as for the random gun could be anything, maybe another doomguy.
Keep in mind the cover was basically outsourced to an artist, who while being kick ass, designed the cover around concept art and ideas that never made the game.
The marines on the cover are not Doomguy. They are probably the ones who were on site and got their shit wrecked by the sudden arrival of demons. Doomguy wouldn't be dying on the cover.
