I mean, hell, I think both old and nuDoom have good aspects to them. It's just that it's true that nuDoom is limited a whole lot more. But then again I don't think people get the tradeoff of prettier graphics. No fucking PC today or in the next ten years can handle nuts.wad in nuDoom, hell most good ones still can't handle the original nuts.wad.
But since they limit the number of them "active" at once I do think 64 demons map limit is dumb. But then again in general Snapmap was never going to replace a good ol' DoomED or other map-making program. And it would be a hell of a lot more effort to do something like Demonsteele or even more straightforward stuff like Complex Doom or Hellblazer in nuDoom.
A lot of people hate it because it looks pretty but can't do as much as old Doom while failing to realize that old Doom is over twenty years old and fans have been pushing the envelope for what it can do for literal decades now. They hold nuDoom to the same candle but nothing ever will, not the games made today. Especially when Doom's is one of the most successful (as in alive and thriving despite how long running it's been) communities out there.
Hell I suspect Doom mapping and modding will still be kicking another twenty years from now when we're all old and busted.

It's okay. Don't skip the expansion pack if you manage to sit through original, or even if you don't but would enjoy a game with same graphics and general style (maybe even a bit worse) but with faster-paced and tougher encounters.

DOOM tried to be Half-Life.
Hope you like reading, and watching video files, and moving slowly, and jump scares that you wont realize are jump scares (oh no these boxes just got blown away oooOOOOoooOOo) and a whole bunch of environments that look exactly the same. Even Hell is relegated to being just 2 levels (basically the same level both times.)
Also hope you didn't watch the DOOM movie, they shared the monster designs, so playing DOOM 3 now just triggers all those DOOM movie nightmares.
