>Re-imagined enemies, weapons, and locations by original concept artist Robb Waters.

NO! They said they wouldn't change anything!
T-they're changing the music, /v/-the music!
Hold me.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1598858095/system-shock?token=a72debe1
I played the demo. While it's extremely short and barebones, it did capture that System Shock feel.
Color me intrigued.
>>343112931
My fans went absolutely insane when I booted the demo up. I need an upgrade.
But it looks absolutely beautiful, I have to admit. It's a bit too dark, though.
Bumping for interest.
>He honestly wants the game to be a literal copy of System Shock 1 except with better graphics
Are you fucking serious? If anything, the demo didn't change enough. It's area by area the same shit.
>>343114348
Yeah, that's the point.
The game is already perfect. Why change anything besides the UI and the graphics?
The new areas idea will be cool, but a new voice acting team (besides SHODAN) and new music?
C'mon, anon.....
>>343113091
Alien Isolation looks better. This demo only has very tiny rooms with very little things being rendered on screen. The only reason you need to upgrade for this game is because it's poorly optimized.
>>343114746
Maybe because the technical limitations and player expectations have changed? It'll be to the original as XCOM is to X-Com; a good game, but still different to the original.
>>343112669
Your advertising is beyond transparent.
>>343115259
But literally the only problem with the original System Shock is that it's hideously outdated.
The new graphics update and the keeping of mouselook should make it more than adequate to satisfy modern audiences.
I also don't understand people who bitch about the game being released on Xbox One. There's literally nothing about System Shock that couldn't work fine on consoles.
>>343115087
No, the same thing happened with Ryse Son of Rome. I think I'll just have to upgrade my fans and my processor.
>>343112669
>new VO will be recorded.
By Terri Brosius, yeah.
Here's hoping that it comes to PS4
>>343116046
No, she's only returning to voice act SHODAN. But the rest of the audio logs will be recorded by new voice actors.
Terri hasn't had to voice act SHODAN in 17 years. I wonder if it'll still be the same now.
>>343116135
Only the Xbox One is getting it initially, but they said they're open to releasing it on the PS4 too.
>>343114746
>The game is already perfect. Why change anything besides the UI and the graphics?
It's a complete waste of resources. You're wasting time and developers on making a game that already fucking exists.
Over half of the game should be changed. It's ok to have a few callbacks, but if the whole game is just literally the same shit, why the fuck would I want to play that? I already did two decades ago, god damn.
>>343116241
I imagine she's the one that voice acted on their dumb pitch video. Sounds the same to me.
>>343112669
I seriously hope you guy didn't back this yet.
>>343116490
But they're adding new weapons and areas, anon.
It's the voice acting change and the music change that I'm pissed about.
They said they're remixing the original soundtrack as well as the adding a new one. Why the fuck do you need to remix the original's one?
I wasn't even born in 1994, so don't say I'm a nostalgia fag. I just love the game a lot.
>>343116792
This is fucking great
>>343116593
Yeah, I just watched it there.
She sounds good, but I think there's a bit *too much* stuttering. It makes her kind of hard to follow. I'm not complaining, just offering a bit of healthy criticism.
>>343117519
>I'm not complaining
why are you fucking afraid to complain
god, if it's a legit criticism it IS complaining, there's nothing wrong with that, it's what you're SUPPOSED TO DO if you're giving them money to make it better.
>>343116792
I actually like this.
>>343117730
I'm not giving them money. I'd love to, but I don't have it right now.

If you give €10'000, you can go to a private party with the developers and have your name on the TriOptimum members board and in the credits.
I think that's pretty cool. Obviously you'd have to have shitloads of money for that.
>>343119838
Access to the dev forums is just 250€. That's should be enough to get my point across to the devs.

How does it look like shit? What looks bad about it?
>>343120807
He has the worst shot of all time. He missed the mutant at very close range loads of times.
>>343120873
My PC fan can't handle it. I can run it fine, but my fans just aren't able for it. They get really loud. I'll hopefully have it upgraded before it comes out.
>>343120807
>compared to the original it's breathtaking
>>343120903
The melee parts are inexcusable, people should learn to gauge distance but the shooting is actually kind of odd. I shot at one of the mutants heads and their weird animations made the shot go right past them.
>>343121067
are you actually trying to say that the original system shock looks anything other than dog shit
>>343120903
the unfiltered textures
>>343121067
System Shock was released 22 years ago.
Are you insinuating that it doesn't look like total ass by modern day standards?
>>343121201
Yeah I missed 3 times trying to aim at the head and had an identity crisis where I asked myself if a shitstain like me is even any better than Polygon.
Then I aimed at the body and hit every time.
>>343114746
I'm at the part where you have to go to each level and write down the numbers on the screen in some tiny-ass corner I forgot where.
This part's fucking stupid. Nobody will miss it in the remake.
>>343112669
>combat feels bad, swing animation looks bad
>You can't feel the hit
Other than that it's okay. Didn't spooked me much.
>>343122179
There is no way that those misses by the Polygon player were anything other than Parkinson's disease.
He missed so many times at a close range.
>>343122521
It's probably a controller.
>>343122502
Is there a lean function, anon?
I didn't see the Polygon dude use it.
>>343122405
Reminds me of the bit in 2 where you have to go through all the slides in the paintings of the residential sector for a keycode.
>>343120528
>yfw Polygon player finished demo many times to not look like a retard
>>343122564
It's actually a mouse, he's just that bad.
>>343122614
There is.
>>343122614
Yes there is a lean function Q and E on keyboard. It dosen't lean that much.
Why the fuck do mutants look like they take about nine million hits to take down with the Sparq beam in the Polygon video?
In the original a Sparq beam just split a mutant's head open like a balloon in two or three shots.
>>343122765
That's a shame.
In the original, leaning was pretty overexaggerated. Y'know, he leaned like an obtuse angle.
>>343122564
If anything a controller would make it more accurate.
I've always been more accurate in shooters on a controller, at least.
>>343122795
Because he's missing 90% of those shots.
>>343122502
melee looks like dogshit I agree, really liked the Sparq beam
>>343122795
They might be bringing weapon upgrades like from SS2, but also since Polygon has no idea how to play videogames he missed a ton of shots, if you count how many times he actually hits he kills in 3 shots
>>343123040
>I've always been more accurate in shooters on a controller
That's because you're a fucking pleb. Kill yourself.
>>343123473
Fuck off.
I prefer to use a keyboard in general, but controllers are infinitely more comfy for shooters.
>literally crashed 15 minutes in
My GPU's fan is probably fucked. 80°C isn't fine, is it?
>kickstarter backers can pay to be in the game
Not even worth playing desu
I refuse to give money to anyone who does this garbage
I'm ok with everything but the soundtrack, it sounds really out of place and more suited to Amnesia or even Dead Space
The remix track is also just as questionable, sounds like shitty club music
>>343123591
>controllers are infinitely more comfy for shooters
>>343123591
You've grown too accustomed to modern day auto aiming for consoles.
No, you might feel like its better, but your aim is dogshit compared to someone else who can use a mouse on PC.
>>343123597
>Oh no, they reward their backers with cool things
So? What's wrong with that?
If you pay a handsome sum of money like €5'000-€10'000 you absolutely deserve some mention in the game.
>>343123591
>le comfy meme
>>343123730
>>343123748
No, I mean in terms of handling. For anything else I'd rather a keyboard, but for shooting in any game a controller is the preferable option for me.
Same for games like GTA.
>>343123760

Sounds cool, but VR would probably give me a headache and make me feel sick, so I'll pass on that.
>>343123596

>hehe it'll be so ironic le succ

>>343123689
Yeah, it sounds like garbage. Why couldn't they just leave the original's music as is? It might sound a bit outdated, but fuck it.
>>343123907
lulz
My biggest concern is the music... I know they said they'd be doing the original soundtrack as a stretch goal, but are they just remastering it and releasing it, or will it actually be included in the game? The techno-Cyberpunk music in SS was a massive part in defining the atmosphere. I hope they don't forgo that for a generic sci-fi dark ambient track, even if it's done well.
>>343116792
That guy is a fucking idiot. We will end up with transgender robots and a feminazi SHODAN.
>>343123945

>>343124123

>>343124359
I'm not familiar with that guy... who is he?
>>343124396
I don't care, I think it's a fundamentally disgusting choice and I refuse to support it.
I can always just play the original instead anyway instead of needing someone to repaint it and streamline it into a homogenized acceptably modern game.
>>343124351
They're adding their own and remixing the original one. The intro music remix sounds like absolute garbage.

>>343124563
I actually don't think it's too bad... sounds like what I would have expected the creators to make if they had access to modern tools. It's also nice that they added the little voices blips, added a lot of great ambience to the music. If they are all done like this, it might not be a failure
>>343125970
Why didn't they just leave it the way it was? It was fine.
>Mutants whisper 'they see you'
Wrong game!
>>343126470
Maybe they have control of their own minds too like hybrids but can't do anything to stop themselves? I don't know.
>>343112669
Do you realize how jarring it would be to have low quality sound from the early 90s in a game with modern graphics? I'd be happy if they include an original audio option like Rise of the Triad but you're fucking retarded if you think most people would be ok with that being the only audio.
>>343125970
>sounds like what I would have expected the creators to make if they had access to modern tool
They did have access to modern tools. Greg LoPiccolo was the leader of the band Tribe, of which Terri Brosius also comes from, and they did several remixes of the actual music from the game for the CD version. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zV6EtVTPiZA This version of the intro was actually used instead of a MIDI track for the intro on the CD version of the original System Shock back in 1994 and it was done in the studio like a track on an album not constrained by DOS.
>>343124579
My god... this is going to be insane

>>343126470
Wow, the latest Mirror's Edge looks quite realistic
>>343126370
Maybe they didn't want to feel like copying it? I don't know, seems people who remake this type of shit feel the need to redo everything. Dissapointing, but I'm just happy it didn't turn out worse
>>343126758
That sounds fantastic... it really makes the new one pale a little... maybe someone will mod the original soundtrack into the game at some point? That'd be cool
>no leaning
>no prone
>no stealth at all
>no weapon power settings
>probably a lot more shit got cut
It's sad that people really think that games feel aged if they haven't had all depth sucked out of them.
They use a quote from Warren Spector on the kickstarter page:
"I've long said that if you updated the graphics, sound and UI on System Shock you'd have something that competes directly with any game on the market today."
Unfortunately they don't seem to understand what he's saying and are spitting right in his face by changing the gameplay so drastically.
Demo was great and you're all complaining about a game that won't be released for over a year.
Jesus fucking christ the autism in this thread is unfathomable. I bet most of you weren't even alive when System Shock came out.
>>343127715
But there is leaning and power settings
You didn't even play it did you
>no stealth at all
Did the original even have stealth? I remember it was a pretty blazing run and gun game
>>343127750
OP here.
I certainly wasn't alive when it came out, but I really love the original and don't want to see it fucked with too hard.
Anyone know where the config file for the demo is? I want to see how I can edit it.
>>343127919
>Did the original even have stealth? I remember it was a pretty blazing run and gun game
Yes, but it's rough with basically no feedback to work with like you'd get in a proper stealth game. But leaning around corners, crouching, and lying down do make it harder for enemies to see you and you can pass by when their back is turned.
>>343112669
the only thing i hate about this is
>unity
that being said unity isnt a bad engine.
people just dont know how to use it.
which seems to be the case with the demo too.
this really didnt make a good impression.
not to mention the music is nonexistant its all just ambient noise.
system shocks music was excellent and a huge part of the atmosphere and perception of the world.
>>343129556
I don't think the music even exists yet for this game.
>>343112669
>they're changing things in a remake
Oh man, what a surprise.
You can still play the original, you fucking retard.
>>343124563
that doesnt sound bad.
zircon does some great work.
they could have definitely done worse.
>>343113091
That's cause it runs at like 3000 fps in the opening screen, seriously. You can force v-sync in your video drivers to fix.
why did it have to be fucking unity?
god damn it.
I kinda hate that the remixing for the original OST is at such a high stretch goal, what the fuck man.
I tried rushing through the demo and fell through the floor.
That was interesting.
>>343119358
anisotropic filtering has nothing to do with the actual texture filtering.
>>343117036
>Why the fuck do you need to remix the original's one?
Because the original sounds dated. It being remixed doesn't necessarily mean that they're turning the tracks into dance tracks or anything like remixes are cliche thought of. They're most likely updating dated synths, dated drum machines and what not.
Uhh did I miss something?
Dunno what to do now

You have to remember that you can also adjust the power of the sparq beam, by default when you pick it up it's set to medium, and then there's high, overdrive, and back down to low and then to medium again.
>>343133897
>Does the Enhanced Edition feel close to this in terms of gameplay or is it too dated?

>>343135448
But does it play similarly? I liked this demo and do not have nostalgia from playing the original biasing me. If it's different, I'm not interested and will just wait for this remaster.
>>343114746
It was revolutionary when it came out, but even then heavily flawed. Even more so in today's standards. Besides, no matter what they do with the remake, your beloved game will still remain untouched.
>>343136024
It's not very similar, in my opinion, no.
This demo didn't even introduce the multiple ammunition types and all that other stuff.
>>343133564

It's even more ridiculous when in MML everyone actually calls him Megaman. In DASH they just call him Rock.

I wouldn't say it's shit but it's got some pretty deep flaws. Most of the weapons are garbage with the only ones worth using being the energy rapier, pistol, shotgun, assault rifle, and grenade launcher. Basically 2/3rds of heavy weapons and energy weapons are utter jokes and the exotic weapons are a complete waste of points.Hacking feels dull and inspired compared to the original System Shock. Research literally boils down to "back track to earlier level, grab necessary chemicals for research, wait). Also the Rickenbacker really fucking sucked.
>>343145224
If you like system shock games than yes, you should back it. I say it because i did too and i need it to be funded.
>>343112669
Wait, did people expect the exact same game? Why would you even want the same game again?
I mean, shit. I wish they'd changed a bunch of shit for Halo Anniversary. Put enemies in different spots, add in weapons, maybe expand the maps and shit. I'd been playing Combat Evolved for a decade when it came out, and it's just a visual update. SPV3 is more along the lines of what they could have done with it.
It's the same for all remakes, though. At least take the chance to do something different with the game if you're going to remake it.
>>343115259
>player expectations have changed?
That's the biggest reason why things shouldn't be touched. Besides, why the fuck would you buy a remake if not to play the actual game.
>>343116338
Neato. Hope it doesn't run like total ass. I can only expect so much on PS4 hardware, but devs have stopped optimizing past the bare minimum on all systems. It gets a little ridiculous.

>>343146223
It was pretty silly to have that in the game though
It was supposed to be a pretty atmospheric experience, not go into the cargo bays with your new assault rifle and kill everything
I just started playing the Enhanced Edition tonight after finishing the demo for that remake and I don't see what all the nostalgiafags are bitching about. It's really fucking faithful yet improved in every way. This shit is archaic as fuck and the music is retarded. >>343145314
Problem in my opinion with the weapons is the developers try to tailer a huge portion of the weapons towards specific enemies while at the same time there's weapons that are good for basically anything For example:
> Annelid Launcher
> Requires fuck ton of cyber modules
> Requirements: Strength 3, Agility 3, Research 6, Exotic Weapons 6
> Rarest ammo in the game
> Need to gather mats and research it before you can even use it
> Only useful against spiders
vs
> Grenade launcher
> Requirements: 1 heavy weapon
> Plentiful ammo
> Kills basically anything with ease
Or alternatively invest in standard weapons so you can use the assault rifle which has a variety of ammo types for any enemy.
>>343147432
both are good
playing the first one isn't required and most people haven't played it, the only thing you miss out on is some references that tie the story up a little better

Agreed. System Shock 1 is fucking ancient. The music is dated to say the least. The gameplay and controls are as unintuitive as I think any game could ever possibly get because of the fact that it was made without mouse in mind. It just doesn't feel good to play, to look at, or listen to anymore. The one thing it still has going for it is the story. This remaster is a god send because it retains that and even has the same voice actress for SHODAN while making the gameplay into something actually fun and playable due to advancements in technology and game mechanics.
>>343146223

You know I can already smell the smell of shit off this right now. It's going to be packed with liberal agendas and have a netflix-original-series-tier storyline which is intended to be 2deep4u and have a message that places like Kotaku will praise.
Modern liberals are as creatively bankrupt as it comes so it really should be obvious every single game reboot will be like this considering video games are becoming the next comic books. Saw this coming for years but it still hurts to see it finally get here.
Are you guys ready for Timesplitters finally getting a soft reboot and being full of family-appropriate smarmy Disney humor and lectures on sexism? Maybe Cortez will be a full-on black guy and also revealed to be homosexual. He has to go back in time and kill Donald Trump and Nixon and an online troll from redchanit.

You sound just like BioShock fans who think the same of SS2 fans.
>>343123591
Third person shooters, sure. But rarely does a first person game work better with controllers. Maybe the ones where shooting is a rarer element.
>>343154235
How popular it is isn't relevant. What's bad about 2 is all the half assed and half implemented mechanics. 1 is a perfect dungeon crawler. It's a smooth experience where everything works properly and it does exactly what it sets out to do. 2 is a jumbled mess of ideas that never got fully realized. It's a fun game, but it can't hold a candle to 1 in any regard.
>>343154645
>Third person shooters, sure
Those are still better with a mouse you faggot.
>>343154357

>>343154750
It's pretty even between kb+m and controllers with those games, dipshit.
>>343154918
on the original game you goldfish
and there's no reason an upbeat track wouldn't go well over the remake provided you remove a lot of the pointless droning sounds and "atmosphere". You should be zipping around instead of crawling slowly.
it's not a survival game, it shouldn't be, it's system shock.
>>343155036
It's really not. Even the ones that are designed exclusively for controllers end up controlling better once they get proper mouse support(see: RE4). A mouse' ability for high speed, high precision aiming isn't really diminished just by moving the camera back a few feet.
just played the demo
casual games ruined me I was completely stumped on the circuit """""puzzle""""" until you can press the buttons
looks good to me
>>343155186
There's hardly a difference. Even then, some tps games work better with controllers where you have characters that can roll around and jump around the place, that always works out better with a controller than a keyboard.
>>343155302
>There's hardly a difference
Yes there is, just as much as in first person.
>Even then, some tps games work better with controllers where you have characters that can roll around and jump around the place, that always works out better with a controller than a keyboard
Quake conclusively proves that "jumping around the place" is best with a mouse and keyboard.
>>343155468
getting a bit off topic but quake is the exception
3d platformers are typically better in 3rd person
>>343155468
Quake is first person, though. Again, things like GTA hardly have much difference between controller and kb+m when the controls are finely tuned. Only reason anyone even noticed a difference way back with the PS2 ones going on PC was because the aiming in every PS2 Rockstar game was crap and kept changing with each title.
>>343114746
this is why I hate all system shock fans
they are all autistic over expired milk
So glad they're giving it a ss2 treatment, stubborn ss1 purist tears in this thread are delicious.
>>343155746
>Quake is first person, though
That's not the point. Once again, moving the camera back a few feet doesn't change that it's the best way to control the game.
>things like GTA hardly have much difference between controller and kb+m when the controls are finely tuned
Those are the worst possible examples. If by "finely tuned" you mean they literally have lock-on so that the player's ability to aim isn't a factor at all, then sure, a mouse won't make much difference. But that's not representative of the genre or the concept of a third person shooter.
>>343155275
it was bad because you couldn't see shit behind the sparks, ss1 had a separate minigame screen with wires. Seems like they decided to go with total immersion and make all game interfaces seamless.
>>343156078
Except there is a difference considering first person means you're in what is basically the "head" of the character, that's a big difference compared to third-person where it's a camera following them.
And the GTAs still somewhat count as you don't have to use auto-aim in many of the later ones, where the aiming is just fine on a controller.
Robb Waters didn't improve much as an artist, looks kinda amateur.
>>343156262
>Except there is a difference considering first person means you're in what is basically the "head" of the character, that's a big difference compared to third-person where it's a camera following them.
Yes, congratulations you've described what a first and third person shooter are. In what way does this change the usefulness of a mouse for aiming?
>And the GTAs still somewhat count as you don't have to use auto-aim in many of the later ones, where the aiming is just fine on a controller.
"Just fine" doesn't mean not better with a mouse.

>>343156576
It changes quite a lot because of how the guns control and often how they're aimed. TPS games usually just have a reticule that has nothing do with the gun itself and just requires you to aim at the body part you want to shoot, whereas FPS games usually try to be a more "realistic" and have the reticule over the gun, which means you've got to aim more precisely rather than have the gun facing 10 feet to an enemy's left side.
And yes, just fine means it's just as good as a mouse. Seriously, TPS games don't see much improvement compared to FPSs where the precision is much more polish with a mouse.
>>343116792

They stopped having obscure looking covers on games because they learned that it made their games less likely to get picked up off the shelf. Now with access to information and digital purchasing it doesn't really matter.

>It changes quite a lot because of how the guns control and often how they're aimed. Those aren't inherent qualities in TPS. That just sounds like terrible game design. Once again I'd use RE4 as an example of a TPS where a mouse and keyboard is significantly better than a controller.

Ken is a lot like George Lucas. He does his best work when he has flexibility and can work on his vision with a team that also has input and keeps him on a leash. When he has full control though, he shits out the Phantom Menace that is Infinite.
>>343160585
pretty easy
protip the original game had a working VR prototype in back in 1993 as well
>>343161215

>>343161215
ken wasn't even hired till after ss1
>>343161215
Infinite wasn't just his fault. The publisher was literally coming in every other day to say "do this, not that". Levine's only mistake was being allowed to write after apparently watching a beginner's guide on quantum physics.

Only in the sense of the map layout, everything else is changed.
>>343161587
this is also a godsend to someone who hasn't played any of the games at all, I'm sure they'll be polishing up some of the control problems of the early games and some various other shit that made the game age.
>>343161348
>>343161406
It should also be noted that SS2 is the better game.
>>343161772
those things are poorly implemented in 2 and detract from the game
>>343161862
Poorly implemented? Poorly balanced I'll give you, but they work in game just fine. Pretty standard experience point system. Psi powers actually work great, they just had crazy variance in usefulness with some being OP and some being useless, but that's true for the weapons and tech skills too. Things like SEC mod show that the mechanics worked great, but the balance was what needed tuning.
>>343161862
They detract from ss1 game you wanted, but rpg elements are right at home in ss2, they ensure replayability, enhance the gameplay with different flavors
