Activision contacted Valve and ordered a takedown under the DMCA on Orion: Dino Horde/Orion: Prelude because they claimed the developer had stolen assets from them. The claim was never that he'd directly stolen the models, but that his assets were "similiar enough in style" - essentially, saying he'd stolen the design if not the actual model.
The dev claims he's done nothing wrong, and from what I understand he's already contacted Valve and made a counter-claim. The claim itself is pretty dubious since all of those gun parts exist in the real world.
Since then, he's had a PR meltdown.
I got it when it was ORION: Dino Horde. It was already a controversial game back then, and it wasn't great, but it was certainly a night of fun with some friends for a buck.

A few friends and I picked up the game a few months back when he was on sale for 99c. Was fun for an hour or two, whatever.
After a round we were in the lobby and saw some arguing over whether someone's ban was justified. We hit the discussion forums and discovered David was a total loon. Really, just go through it. Guy has a massive fucking ego and throws out bans at random, and his fanboys defend him.
We actually took screenshots of all the copyrighted helmets and sent them off to various companies in hopes something like this would happen. Never got a response though.
I'm fucking stunned Activsion managed to pick out the frankenstein guns. That's easily the hardest stolen thing to spot.

A long time ago, around 2006-2008, this used to be one guy with an idea for a half life 2 mod that was essentially something similar to battlefield 2 crossed with half life in a futuristic setting, where you'd have dinosaurs as collateral between two teams of futuristic soldiers fighting on far off planets.
As far as I understand he's just one of those big bright idea guy type kids, or was back then, and he used that appeal to attract a couple of volunteer modders to help work on his project and they came up with some pretty impressive visuals and music for the day and had a proof of concept up and all of that.
Eventually as time passed it seemed that it was vaporware, with the volunteers dropping out and saying he was refusing to properly credit them, making unrealistic demands and threatening them if they didn't finish their work (>doing it for free)
Then their website and forum was taken over by Chinese spammers and the whole thing turned into an advertisement for cheap perfume and Valium.
That's the last I heard of them until last year where I saw Orion dino whatever the fuck on sale for like 80 cents on steam. I'm really not surprised it turned out this way. I don't think this guy properly understands how to do business and is more suited to being 'that kid' or the idea guy or something. I think he's inherently talent-less but wishes he could participate in the games industry and this is why all this happens and has been happening to him for almost 10 years now. He's been making the same mistakes for 10 years!

Biggest problem is the game has (or had, kek) a pointless gear grind. I do mean pointless. The gear itself actually does nothing, but you're still restricted on what server you can join based on it.
Confused? Let's say your equipment has an item level of ~200 and you join a ilvl 250 server. Your damage, health, etc. get scaled up to 250. Now you join a ilvl 100 server. Your stats get scaled down to 100.
The whole system is useless and makes no sense. Just restricts who you can play with until you hit the cap of 600 where you can just jump into any server.
