Here's how they did it.
The truth is that Denuvo is fully cracked for that specific game (ROTTR), not emulated or worked around.
Denuvo uses a VM to translate x86-x64 instructions to a set of VM instructions (between 2-50 for a single instructions), which makes code unreadable (virtualization obfuscation).
At runtime, the VM instructions are decrypted by an interpreter, think of it as the specific processor needed to run the obfuscated bytecode.
So know that everyone knows the basic of virtualizer (summed up and simplified), here is reloaded's method. Exe sections that are encrypted by Denuvo are "destroyed", the original code is nowhere to be seen, preventing the reverser from modifying the code. Reloaded used tricks to get the interpreter to read the vm instructions for them, then dumped that decrypted code out of memory and replaced "destroyed" sections by the fresh x64 assembly code.

Yes it's worth it for the singleplayer campaign, probably my favorite game of the year so far. It's really reminiscent of Ouake and the original Doom. Movement and combat are really fast with you jumping all over the place dodging fireballs and missiles and blowing fucking demons up into gory messes. On higher difficulties getting hit just a few times can kill you though overall i'd say the game is still easier than Doom 1 and 2.
Also it's not scary at all. Unlike Doom 3 where the game had you crawling around in the dark like a scared pussy for half the game, you usually know when an enemy is near before you're actually in combat in the new Doom and you're running to go kill them. There are some darker segments though not as dark as Doom 3 was on average and there isn't a single scripted jumpscare in the game. There is a shitload of gore in the game though, like insane amounts of gore just all over the place.
Oh yeah and the soundtrack is pretty good too.

It's got full debugging support on top of the static analysis, the analysis can even help you while your debugging
Also plugins like HexRays work fine when debugging too, so you can get C pseudocode of the func your analysing as you analyse it (newer versions of HexRays even let you set breakpoints inside the pseudocode, pretty neat stuff)

Regardless, the only way your argument holds up is if the games using Denuvo actually sold.
The only one in recent memory is TW: Warhammer and they stopped regularly releasing info after the 500k mark.
For comparison, Rome 2 in that series without Denuvo sold around 1.2 million in the same time frame.

You should think through that one carefully. Denuvo as you stated is to secure the timeframe where games get the most sales. Sales numbers is extremely relevant to that argument, and ultimately will refute or prove the argument on its own.
You see, if and I mean if, companies or more specifically publishers understand that licensing Denuvo (what was it, millions at the start or % per copy sold?) is less cost effective, Denuvo will not really be used anymore.

I noticed that IDA is used mostly by professionals, malware researchers, exploit devs and so on, yeah that obviously doesn't stop crackers from using it but that's just the way it is, maybe it's out of habit. IDA itself has some nasty DRM that uses watermarks (still doesn't prevent leaks but I think pirated copies lack some features). Besides, it used to be hard to purchase it because you needed to have a valid reason for it or work for someone big in the security industry, not sure how strict it is nowadays. There is official support for SGX in both Linux and Windows 10. SGX only adds a few instructions, it's going to be trivial to add to compilers. Like I said, SGX is not about additional instructions, it's about the ability to create encrypted, remotely attestable enclaves a debugger won't be able to enter.
