Do me a favour /v/. If you've got it go back and play Manhunt for a bit. Play it with a one-eared headset. The type that's like an earpiece so the director can talk directly to you while you play. Play the first few levels and try to ignore the simple AI and slightly wooden controls and just try and soak in the atmosphere. Tell me it's not one of the best horror games ever created.
It's literally uncontrollable for me. What where they thinking? Everything is so amazing and then they fuck up the controls.
great game with an average sequel, will most likely never get a third game because rockstar doesn't need to generate controversy to get attention anymore
Good game. Good OST.

Sequel sucked though.
OP here again but sorry, just had to talk more. It's honestly one of my favourite games due to the sheer stark brutality of the whole affair. It also did the whole meta-narrative "I am the monster" thing far better than Spec Ops did and a long time before. Spec Ops just kinda battered you in the face with it. Here it's far more subtle and insidious.

The sequel was shit because it wasn't the Scottish team that did it. It was passed off to Rockstar Leeds who also did Liberty City Stories and that's about it.
>tfw we'll never get another manhunt
i really want manhunt on psp.
one of my favorites
>>342997174
Manhunt 2 was on PSP at least, but it was pants.
>>342997259
yeah, i know. i have the uncensored version. i did some searching to find a version for psp with the deleted scenes, but came up empty
some based anon figured out how to change the camera angles in game to show better cut scenes., but that was posted on youtube years ago
>>342997117
Hey, if you like Manhunt and think Spec Ops sucked, try the Kane and Lynch games, especially 2, if you haven't already.
>>342997494
Way ahead of you, though I really liked Spec Ops as well. That bit with fucking Mogwai blaring out was brilliant but yeah, Kane & Lynch 2 is another of my favourites. First wasn't that great but the sheer blunt force trauma smack to the head of the second game is unparalleled.
>>342997758
Right on. Spec Ops was okay, yeah, but it's just not on the same level as Manhunt and K&L.

Actually had a pretty long K&L2 thread on /v/ a couple of weeks back. Turns out quite a few people here appreciate it as the unheralded disturbing masterpiece that it is. Everything feels just so horrifically fucking real in it. It'd be nice to see more devs take up that aesthetic style, even if it gave half the players a migraine.
>>342996391
Normally I don't give a shit about VA, but Brian Cox is amazing as Starkweather in this game.

I would legit buy you guys beers.

Tequila lemonade would do me fine.

>want to play this game again
>Don't have a PS2 anymore and the steam version is borked
What do I do lads?
>>342999462
Get a PS3? It's on the store.
I'm about to buy Kane and Lynch 1/2 on steam. If it's bad, so help you God.
>>342999462
Steam version works fine. What's your setup?
>>342999462
get a psp emulator and get a version from tpb
or buy that shit again
>>342999625
The first one is shit. The second has rudimentary gameplay but fucking god-tier aesthetics and atmosphere.
I'd like to go back to Carcer City.

>People on /v/ actually liked Kane and Lynch 2
I heard it was fucking trash from almost everyone that played it. Is it worth checking out?
>No controller support
>>342999625
Kane and Lynch 1 is great but IT DOES NOT WORK ANYMORE.
You can't play it on win8 and up and they will never patchit.
>>342999625
You're going in with expectations now so it's already ruined.
May as well not play it. or wait a few months and forget this thread.
>>343000032
If your like dark-ass no-bullshit games, yeah. It's as clunky as people say, but it's like a Silent Hill game, you're not really there for fun-packed moment-to-moment gameplay.
>>343000217
>Kane and Lynch 1 is great but IT DOES NOT WORK ANYMORE.
fug
>>342999625
I have Windows10and a fairly high-end rig that I built earlier last year. I've been meaning to get Linux or an operating system that isn't trash for a while but I can't be arsed.
>>343000415
but i want to have fun
>>342998353
Any game with a clattering, abrasive noise/industrial soundtrack like this is worth checking out in my book. I hope I'm not getting rused here.
>>343000627
I'm assuming you liked the original Postal then? Well K&L2 is a fucking revelation compared to that gameplay wise. Just remember, you're playing it to have a miserable time. Then you might enjoy it.
>>343000627
No rusing here, it's good stuff. It's just how these things go, the hivemind isn't perfect. Nobody considered Silent Hill 2 an ultimate masterpiece when it was first released, for example.
>>343001080
I heard the story and gameplay in KL2 isn't that great. Is it a solely atmosphere-driven game?
>>342998353
That reminds me of this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYiTGq-dGa8
>>343001341
The story's actually fucking perfect for what it is. A pair of washed up, pathetic killers are in China to do one last job and end up on the wrong end of a corrupt official. It's exactly as desolate and hopeless as it sounds and the atmosphere simply serves to hammer the point home.
>>342996813
Have you not played the uncensored version?? If you're into gore executions you might to uncensored.
>>343002138
The only good executions in the sequel were the plastic bag and the saw. Nothing censored was that great but the new placcy bag executions were fucking brutal with the panicked suffocating screams.
>>343001632
i'm grooving AND shitting my pants!
If I get the original Manhunt on Steam, will it not work if I have windows 10 as my OS?
>>343002368
Agreed manhunt is pretty intense. In my own opinion I thought 2 had a wonderful story about poor Leo. The bag and alternate method executions in 2 were rad as hell. Cheers mate.
>>343000032
Yahtzee didn't have anything nice to say about it.

Yahtzee's a clerk.
The media bustle can't actually say anything new, it's just there to spread the PR. It can spread the idea that Spec Ops is deep because Spec Ops was specifically marketed beforehand as being deep. But with a game that hides its strengths, like K&L2, they've got nothing to say. No time to think about it, gotta get them reviews out, graphics are unpleasant and the characters aren't funny, 4/10.
Look around, there are quite a few "hey, K&L2 was actually pretty fucking special" articles and blogs around now, mostly written years after it came out.
>>343003436
Many of these complaints are actually points in the game's favour for a certain mindset.
>>343004260
OK OK you can dial it back; I spent the two dollars. Better be good.
>>343004260
But Spec Ops wasn't marketed as being deep (save for that one really trailer), it was marketed as just being another military shooter.
Said trailer:

Also, hit me up with one of those KL2 articles. I want to see what other people besides Grotsy and Pissed Off Pedro have to say.

The same site gave it 4/10 when it came out.

Not him but this EG article is what got me to give the game a shot. There's another one I read by some random blogger that I'm hunting down for you too.

But anon, Liberty City Stories is the best in the series
