Yes, combos still require a bit of timing but are considerably easier to do then sf4, Challenges give you a rough idea on how to do some combos and what works and what doesn't.
I would wait until the june update (which will be this Friday) , because that's when the supposedly 4 hour story mode is coming and you'll most likely get to play the dlc characters to see which ones you think is worth getting/buying.
That being said, don't expect a grand tutorial, you're better off going to forums or looking up vids online.
