What's the use of the laser cutter? What kind of stuff does it open. The small square boxes lying around random wreckages? Also post moths.
>>
Locked doors in wrecks.
That's it.
>>
> Finally have enough to build a moon pool.
> Doesn't attach cleanly to the rest of the base.

I'm going to have to get creative with some hallways.
>>
>>342948727
If you want it around in one way specifically, use hallway pieces to get it so the side with one entrance is the way you want it to be.
>>
>>342948927
Is there a way to rotate things when you are placing them? Right now I just blindly hope the snapping orients things correctly which is really hit and miss.
>>
>>342949075
Q and E should rotate place-able objects, like hallways. There's an onscreen hint when doing so.
>>
>>342948515
They don't open cargo or anything? I've been using the repulsor to open the locke ddoors so if that's the cutter only function it's not really useful.
>>
>>342949164
>Using the fuck-off cannon to open doors
Didn't think that was an option.

You open things like lockers/doors with the mouse click, not with Q/E.
>>
>>342949150
Must have missed that somehow. Thanks, Anon.

Are reginalds less horny or something? My peepers on the other hand are fucking like rabbits and multiply like every goddamn minute.

Get like 2 stalker eggs and when they've hatched release them in an open area with good visibility. Then what you do is start dropping metal salvages from the surface down to the area where you released them. You have to repeat the process, so keep dropping them down from the surface. They will play with the salvage and drop teeth in the process. I used like you 8 metal salvages and just constantly went up and down to the surface dropping them. Shallows is a good area for this since you have good visibility and are close to the surface.

One last tip: I ''build'' a moonpool station in a sandy area clearing all the sand in the process. Then I deleted the moonpool again. You now have a huge square open area. Release the stalkers in there and drop the salvage in there. This makes looking for the teeth less problematic then it would be in a grassy area for example.

Just dropping the Stalkers right under your Moon Pool works. They keep trying to gnaw the Seamoth and it breaks off teeth.

I haven't actually had a homegrown Stalker intentionally bite me once. A couple times by accident when going to the Seamoth, but other than that, they seem perfectly tame.

I think the idea was to make it a bit weaker so the cyclops is more relevant, they want the cyclops to be your home away from home and make the seamoth more like a temporary exploration vehicle.

I think it is fine, having to resurface with the seamoth every so often doesn't make it feel all powerful when you get it. I'm hoping it at least gives you enough oxygen to resupply 5 times or so at it until you have to go back up.
>>
>>342959342
CURRENTLY you can go 1700 meters at the deepest. They're going to expand it after launch. There's an arctic biome in the works and we may be able to travel deeper to discover more about the Precursors and whatever evil they're up to.

What's the story of the Prison? Tried Googling it and got a YouTube of some kid who couldn't get to the point of his theory on what the Prison is for or who made it.

Gist of what he said was there was a group of other explorers/miners who caged the Emperor there but all of their basis are abandoned too.

According to what I know/have heard, there are some previous maroonees that built some base sin various areas as they moved from the Mountain Island into the depths. Three people, I think they're a mom dad and son. The parents started doing experiments on themselves and transformed into the Warpers, being influenced by the Precursors to do so; the son built a weapon to fight them with but he accidentally shot down the Aurora. Either the Warpers or the Precursors then kidnapped all the survivors, including the ones in their lifepods (all the pods have a section on the right side where a seat as located ripped away) except for you. The Precursors also captured and imprisoned a Sea emperor for who-knows-what reason, and you need to free it so it can help you combat the Precursors.

>>342959807
I'm down with that, plus the Seamoth can refill its oxygen inside the Cyclops.

>>342960220
They'll be implementing temperature as well, meaning you'll get fried if you're close to lava or in hot water spots. If the arctic biome gets in you'll also have to watch for hypothermia. I think they should do it for the places we have now, water gets really cold in the deep.

Is this the Warper with artwork above? Seems like it fro mthe description. Did they say what said creatures want? Okay, they're trying to make contact with you in a spooky way... but what do they actually want from you? I hope if they do this, there's something more than them trying to / ending up killing you aggressively making contact. Like there's some way to make contact with them and prove they're not aggressive on purpose? Get them to realize "oh shit, our preferred mode of communication is hurting/freaking out our new alien friend. Shit. No wonder he killed Bazzorp and Truborg when they want into the alien's 'den' ".

If there was some sort of way to interact with these sentients like that it would be best, with branching "paths". For instance, if you didn't try to make contact with them eventually, or kept doing things they disliked (maybe they locked away or banished some super nasty things, you let them out, they're pissed at you etc) and they'd become aggressive. Otherwise, you could learn/build ways to communicate with them and start working with them on campaign objectives.

Seems like a neat idea if they take it beyond SPOOKY.

Can someone break down progression for me? I went through the start of the game assuming that once I built an advanced wiring kit it would like.. Unlock more stuff for me to build, but I'm lost as to how to get to deeper depths without really building a permanent base.
>>
>>342962174
Many arthrobods can shed limbs to distract enemies, they grow back. But the mantis also pretty much knocked its arm off, too.

When a mantis shrimp strokes something, it creates a cavitation bubble that, for an EXTREMELY short time, reaches a temperature five times hotter than the surface of the sun, then collapses and creates a powerful shock wave. That's what it uses to bludgeon prey to death and into pieces.
>>
>>342962581
I thought only the pistol shrimp could reach those temperatures.

holy shit this is by far the most terrifying game i have played in my life. Im about two days in and have a few questions

I want to make a base asap, what materials should I start hoarding? I assume I need to get all the quartz and scrap i can find, but how much do I need to get started?

aurora just exploded, should I have gotten in there and fixed it or is this just part of the progression

just how effective is this knife as a weapon? should I fight or flight when i encounter anything new? (im too scared to leave the starting zone)
>>
Is this game procedurally generated or no?
>>
>>342967769
Titanium and Quartz. Quartz is a total pain in the fucking ass.

Honestly, just go into it blind. The terrifying factor never goes away, so just be brave and explore deeper.
>>
>>342967769
you're right with the quartz and titanium, you need to make the habitat builder tool to start building. Bases won't have oxygen unless they have power, so if you haven't made a scanner and found solar panel or bioreactor blueprint fragments yet you should do that first. Aurora is supposed to explode, you're fine you can fix the engine room to stop radiation as for the knife, I generally use it for harvesting, it's not much use to fight, though you can if you want.
>>342968060
everything is handcrafted and not generated.
>>
>>342967769
>quartz and scrap

that's basically all you need for a functioning babby's first base, if you want to build deeper you'll need titanium

part of the progression, you can fix it now that it exploded

knife is shit for killing
>>
>>342967769
Gather a lot of both, and place your base at a comfortable depth close to places with resources and stuff, like the Grassy Plateau.

Part of the progression, you can't stop it, but you can go aboard to repair the engines and stop the radiation and get story progression and a Cyclops upgrade module.

Knife is useless outside gathering and small foes, though you can upgrade it to heated to cook fish you slice.
>>
>>342968060
As of now, no. There might be randomization in the future.
>>
How do you find anything in this game? Where's all the cool caves, sea traders and stuff? All I got so far is the heat signature leading to the shroom cave.
>>
>>342956358
Endermen are very easy to combat though, you just look at them and they get aggro'd.
>>
>>342967769
Well step one is getting the seaglide so you can get around without worrying about fish attacking you because your too slow.

Your going to want to build the tool to make a habitat. Your going to want to get silver, lots of it from the red kelp zone

Aurora is supposed to, you cant enter it before it does.

dont try, wait tilll you get the seamoth and just start ramming shit.

Even when they're aggro'd they're not even a threat seeing as they will often warp themselves outside their aggro radius.

Give them a ranged attack and have them warp when you get into range and they would be asshole #1

They will be implementing creatures attacking yiour bases depending on various criteria as well as base defense systems in the future. The issue with beacons is if you have more than like 3 your fucking screen is filled with them since the icon/name takes up 10 percent of the screen.

Why didn't you wait till it comes out of early access
>>

Think it's that the lack of sight, never knowing what is just out of range, combined with the fear of running out of oxygen, is a pretty potent mix.

I dunno why anyone would unironically want guns in this game, the whole point is that you are powerless to your surroundings.

the stasis rifle is perfect because you have a way to temporarily defend yourself but you are still scared shitless at whatever you're running from.
>>
Still debating getting this game. Still on the fence. Because it sounds like Amnesia: Ocean Edition to a degree. And that annoys me. I'm the sort where I tend to start thinking of how to improvise defenses and removing things that threaten me, and so the sense of helplessness gets artificial and annoying if it's forced.
>>
>>342955765
I think you ran them over dude
>>
>>342978009

>>
>tfw battery chargers in first two hours of new game
>>
>>342977947
Because that's the first thing any logical person would build, a gun to protect theirselves.
If you're playing a open world/survival game and you can't do anything a person would normally do in that situation, it's just boring.
Plus you just knife everything instead of using a gun so the message is that gun control doesn't work because people will find alternatives, which was the opposite of the authors intent.

You build one module on the seafloor. Then lots of vertical ladder tunnels to the height you want, then build from there. Then you can delete some of the ladder tunnels/the module on the ground.

How deep can we go?
>>

>>
>>342978735
You don't, just gather the plot PDAs so you can read them in yours, and scan the bed while you're there.
>>
>>342978668
moon pool is in that biome with the big tree things with the pancake leaves.
>>
What should my goals be?

I just finished day 2 and the space shit blew up. I built a knife and a flashlight and more oxygen and flippers.

But when I get a fish to eat, will I always have to return to my pod? I suppose my big goal should be building a radiation suit so I can explore the wreck.

Do you have a building below that anywhere? I noticed it happened to a few people including myself, that was my theory to the cause.
>>
>>342978940
number one goal right now is def radiation suit so you don't cook while you go exploring. Just find some lead in limestone outcrops and cut the creepvines for fiber mesh. After that start looking for silver so you can make some computer chips and build your first base.

Never made it that far, was the winter sale so i had lots of shiinies to play. Spent like 10 hours on this and than got distracted and forgot about it til now.

It's in our genes. If we all adapted and lived in the fucking ocean we'd probably be scared of going on dry land. Spiders im not sure though, I think humans fear creatures that are really different then ourselves. Spiders are pretty unique in the way that they move and use their legs, also some spiders are dangerous so again genes.

Alright boys, brainstorm time : how do we beat this guy?

Here's a rundown of what we know
>Found in the lava zone, way below any natural oxygen source
>Probably too deep for the Seamoth if he hangs out around the Lava Castle
>Not that it matters since if he catches it he gobbles it, doesn't even let you escape it like the Reaper
>Breathes fucking underwater fire

It's safe to assume he'll probably be able to attack your Cyclops and yes, he's aggressive by default.
>>
>>342979318
the point is to park your seamoth at a safe level and make a quick dive deeper

>>342979318
just park your seamoth at around 179m not far from where you need to go
you shouldn't be in any real danger near moonpool fragments unless you're dumb, and last I bothered I didn't see any reaper leviathans there, just a fair bit of open water above me. Kinda spooky but worst you have to worry about would be that shocking thing and it's easy to avoid.

also last I played when you boot up a save you get messages saying no power/power restored for ALL of your bases, so you really just want one at a time imo also I'm under the impression creatures can't spawn at the start of a save game if you built a base near them. >>
>>342979916
progression spoilers:

to get the seamoth to go deeper you go to the aroura and find the pressure compensator which will allow it to go to 300m, but I did that base without it, you can get pretty close

also, try building some more air tanks.

also if you're the guy looking for moon pool fragments that's the wrong biome.
