Shantae reminds me of Wario Land in particular. Except you're a cute genie girl instead of a fat italian man.
It's incredibly fun, the soundtrack is amazing, the characters are charming as hell and the writing is extremely clever.

Eh, I didn't even finish Pirate's Curse since there's a bit too many collectables and didn't want to use the internet to find where all of the bat things are. Even the first one I didn't have much trouble with the fireflies, but this was obnoxious.

I don't think you understand how development works. They had Inti and the rest of the staff organised in advance, and 3D was deemed the safest approach. Throwing X amount more money can't change that, you can't re-allocate all that time and organisation at the drop of a hat. Least of all in Japanese business. Sure, they could have dropped everything they'd had and restarted with a new and bigger development team, and that would have completely fucked over their image because loyalty in Japanese business is paramount. Even joining a different club in Japan is considered a massive faux pas and can get you permanently kicked out of both, never mind actual corporate relations.

Because they had the entirety of Castlevania's backlog of assets and materials on hand, plus anything else Konami had lying around. Bloodstained had to be built from the ground up whilst avoiding being too close to Castlevania so Konami can't sue. It's not that complicated.

Well, tough, I guess. That's what the staff that they had was comfortable with doing for a project of this magnitude. Inti are clearly capable of producing decent 2D shit even to this day (demonstated by Gunvolt and its upcoming sequel), but those aren't games on the scale of SotN.

They have a 2 year development cycle. The handheld Igavanias could only be pumped out as frequently as they were because they recycled almost everything from Rondo, SotN and each other. Possibly Bloodlines too, I can't remember.
At the end of the day, I think your priorities are skewed. The game should play well before looking good, and it does. They can improve the looks, but even if they don't it still looks good already.

I wonder what ever happened with that dance mod system they were toying with a couple years ago, where you'd be able to stick gems or medals or whatever in to each transformation to change its properties a bit(more HP, higher attack, faster, etc). Could still be in, there's just been no mention of it since then and it's not something covered by the demos. Also, I hope they have an option for Shantae GBC-style dance inputs to change forms.

I understand that having more transformations will slow the game down if you have to wait for each cycle and I'm completely fine with the wheel.
My concern is that you can still have her make a different pose for each transformation, by just skip to it immediately via the wheel. From the 9 minute gameplay you can see that the pose she does for the monkey and spider is identical. See at 3:37 and 4:28
