I picked up the game yesterday. What can I expect?
My only complain so far is the method team obtained their powers.
That 'mahou shojo' scene out of nowhere without explaining shit was hella silly.
Combat, being mix between usual megaten/persona stuff with a flavour of strange journey, seems fun.

Got Eleonora now but gonna take a break, the fourth dungeon is that japanese themed houses, it's pretty beautiful.
I'm amazed how the game does not fuck around with padding. The chapter ends, there is free time for you to do what you want and you choose to start a new chapter and there you go.

The session system isn't quite the same as extra turns but it serves the same purpose and allows for some depth in late-game strategy with the equipping of session skills
The skill progression is almost identical to Digital Devil Saga, albeit with the options extremely condensed.
It's pretty much exactly what one would expect from a new SMT game, and has extremely little to do with Fire Emblem. Having separate resistances for sword(slash) lance(pierce) and axe(bludgeon) is a common SMT mechanic made relevant to FE with name changes.
I'm enjoying it so far, it's basically a more "accessible" Persona game.
Though it does feel strange that they would try to take the Persona/SMT gameplay and make it more palatable for a less hardcore audience while simultaneously pumping up the creepy japanese idol fanservice and j-pop.

It's not what the developers wanted to make. I don't really get why they didn't actually have IS and Atlus' team collaborate on it but whatever. While the tone of the game isn't what I'd expect from either franchise the gameplay is exactly what I'd expect of a console MegaTen game so I'm not really complaining.

I just finished chapter 1 at level 14 on hard difficulty but the boss was quite tough. Charge attacks were a one hit kill and such.
But then in the intermission the sidemission recommended level is level 7 when the boss in the chapter before that was 16 and could easily one hit level 14-15characters.
