Reposting in most current thread as I just missed the new bread when I originally typed this

Here is my shill of a hidden game I can recommend if you like Freelancer:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/12330/

DarkStar One

>What is it?
Spess fighting game a la Freelancer. Fight baddies, trade goods, upgrade your ship, uncover an alien plot.

>What is good about it?
It feels exactly like Freelancer, down to the amazing mouse&keyboard control scheme. It's dirt cheap at 1.50 local shekels. Runs great on modern machines (* Win10 not tested by me, up to win 8 is no problem however)

>What exactly can you do?
You are a guy, in a space ship, flying around visiting space stations in order to trade, accept missions, further the main plot. Then you go out there and shoot some baddies. It uses a star map system similiar to Freelancer: trade lanes, jump gates, big star systems with several planets & stations to dock at. You can deeply customize your ship, do you want more shields? More attack power? Your ship will change accordingly in visuals.

>Ok, what's bad about it?
Graphics aren't anything amazing in this time and age. You cannot change ships, instead since you're piloting a prototype ship you need alien artifacts to upgrade it. Think of it like this: there's 30 artifacts hidden in the game (mission rewards from story missions, hidden in huge asteroid mines you have to carefully fly into and extract them etc.). Each time you gather one of those 30 you are presented with a choice on how to upgrade your craft. Wanna go faster? Or rather have more defense? Some upgrades come with perks. In the end, you will have a unique ship since there are not enough artifacts in game to unlock everything. You have to carefully choose.

>Alright, I'm gonna try, what do I have to lose at 1.50 bucks?
http://store.steampowered.com/app/12330/
Good on ya, now get out there and weep the fact that we're never getting a Freelancer 2 with today's graphics capabilities!

Pillars of Eternity is fucking boring, just about any modern cRPG beats it out in terms of not putting you to sleep.

Darkest Dungeon has been condemned by few as a RNG fest. This isn't quite true. What is true is that it's a fucking grindwall. A pointless, annoying grindwall that deliberately wastes your time over the stupidest shit and has no failure state.

Ditch those two. Try Shadowrun: Dragonfall/Hong Kong instead.

>>342577349
honestly I'd say no to all of those
Darkest Dungeon is chock full of bad design, prepare to sink 100 hours doing a whole shitton of grinding only to lose a hero at level 6 to a random crit

stardew is decent, but honestly rune factory 4 is better

PoE is just an inferior Divinity: Original Sin

Can't comment on One Way Heroics
>>
>>342577478
1 by a fucking avalanche. 0 is just jank horsecrap that's there for Resident Evil purists.

Underrail is alright. Rewards exploration over combat, has some weird pacing jumps, but is overall fun.

>Ryse: Son of Rome

This game is just really not good. It's "cinematic" approach is ruined by it's "immersive" camera and extremely questionable approach to "gameplay". The graphics are fine but the rest is literally just a very bad hack and slash. I'd recommend Darksiders instead.

If this is some kind of special peripheral I wouldn't count on it. This game was made by a rag tag team of underpaid slav or german developers, coding from under a bridge. It works and is 99% bug free, but anything more than that I doubt is possible.

PoE really failed to capture my interest, speaking as someone who really likes CRPGs, especially ones with lots of diplomacy and negotiation. I didn't like the combat or the exploration either, just because if you aren't in search mode you run the risk of missing out on things, and search mode is slow.

There could be good aspects to the game that are hidden later on but I couldn't make it much further than the start of Act II. As for what to add, I feel obligated to recommend Dragon's Dogma if you haven't played it and like ARPGs. If not, Shadowrun Dragonfall and Hong Kong are good turn-based C-ish RPGs.
>>
>>342577873

All in one day.

Play them all.
>>
Only bought The Long Dark so far, wanted it for a while.

Got paid today though, gonna have some fun.
>>
>>342577873
I make a list the first day of what I want and then on the last day decide if my hype has worn off for any of the original list. Spend about 30 bucks because I don't wanna be too disappointed in myself when I just play warframe instead.
>>
>>342577512

Buy MGR and thank me later faggot. It's more fun than all of these games combined.
>>
>>342577849
Don't Starve Together is the only option. Anything else (DayZ, ARK, every other indie survival FPS crap) is worthless. Don't Starve Together is goat however and you will horribly die pretty soon after starting. Then you learn, what can you do better, and it just works, you add another days to the counter. The survival begins - then winter dawns and the cycle begins anew
>>
>>342576970
Worth?
>>
>>342577991
100% agree with this guy. It's not a "modern CRPG" thing either because I played the everloving fuck out of Divinity:OS, but I tried to get a refund on PoE because it just bored the shit out of me. Even fucking swordcoast legends was better.
>>
>>342577873

>>
>>342577873
No point not buying everything you want on the first day anymore since the deals don't change. Before I had to be strategic and wait to see what each day had in store before picking and choosing things. No reason to do that now. I had a budget of $60 for the whole sale, already spent half and am going to sleep on my decision for the rest since I'm currently torn between a few things and nobody seems capable of telling me if Ashes of the Singularity is worth it.

>>342578212
That's true, but in this game the journey is truly the reward. Without looking anything up it will take player(s) a good while to overcome the obstacles DST throws at you.
I owned Don't Starve from a sale years back but never really played it. Started it once but that's it. Then one day I get an email from Klei saying they develop a multiplayer variant and are giving out keys. They sent me two keys so I started playing it with a friend and it was an absolute blast. Going in blind with another person.. this game is the true survival game for me.

I was that way for a while, I've gotten a little better since I quit multiplayer stuff (MMOs, dota, cs) and got busier irl. Now I barely have time for vidya, so the time I spend with it I make count. A couple hours a day, and not every day. I'm enjoying singleplayer games again and that's the best part.

Hmm.

Call of Pripyat is a lot of fun modded, I enjoy misery and its 10,000 ways to contract fatal diseases.

Shadow of Chernobyl has the best story and is fun modded as well.

I would say go for Shadow Of Chernobyl cause Call of Pripyat takes place afterwards anyways.

Play on master and get a light mod for SoC just for visuals, consult the VG guide.

Firewatch isn't really bad, but it's 3 hours long at absolute most, plenty of people finished it in less and is just a really linear walking simulator. Story isn't particularly interesting either and not really relevant to the title/setting (more relationship drama than park ranger trying to stop fires).. Really good voice acting though.

Stanley Parable is good, if for no other reason than the writing.
From the same developer, there's also the Beginner's Guide which is ever so slightly pretentious, but interesting nonetheless.

Controversial opinion on /v/, but Gone Home is also somewhat interesting. It does a pretty good job at presenting the illusion of exploration, although the writing is total garbage.

Stanley Parable is good if you like the 4th wall heavy game humor.

Gone to the Rapture is pretty enough, but I couldn't get into it.

Which of these should I get? Here is why I haven't gotten them:

>transformers
Seems short and just pure action, which is fine, I loved Revengece from the same studio.

>strania
I love shumps but I have a backlog of a lot of them.

>Shovel Knight
I just know of the hype but I don't know much else about it. Seemed like classic action adventure.

>gothic
Looks fun but not that deep, and at that price I am not that interested.

>DMC4
Same as other action games. Have a sort of backlog of this genre.

>elite dangerous
I have heard VERY mixed things about this game. I want to dogfight in space and shoot pirates/pirate other stuff, but apparently there is tons of down time. And people keep saying "wait for ____" whatever

>dragons dogma
I keep hearing really mixed things about this game too. It looks like the sort of game I'd be interested in but apparently there are brutal balance issues and the story is complete ass.

>Stellaris
Lot of hype and I have been really into 4x games, but not much else to go on.

You have to save the world before a real-time timer counts down to far, meaning you have to do little quests all over the place in the most time efficient order, which there's no way to know without googling a guide until you have the layout memorized, by which time it will be too late for that playthrough.

It exists mostly as a vehicle for the costumes, yes, but it's not literally a h-game if I gave you that impression.
>>
>>342579638
You will enjoy it starting out but as you move onto the higher difficulties (and you will because it's how you get the best gear), you will not be happy. When your team wipes, you have to start the entire level again. The game turned out to be a less fun version of L4D2.

>I keep hearing really mixed things about this game too. It looks like the sort of game I'd be interested in but apparently there are brutal balance issues and the story is complete ass.

here let me lay it out for you

there are serious and glaring balance issues if you play on hard mode, specifically at the start of the game (where you get absolutely shit on by goblins throwing oneshot rocks at you) and at the endgame DLC (where it takes 6 minutes to kill some larger enemies that can nearly oneshot you) unless you play as a class that heavily invests in HP and defense

the combat system is pretty varied, though playing as a magic user can be kind of tedious from what I saw

the story isn't anything amazing but it's certainly not bad
>>
>>342579579

>>
>>342579601
Shovel Knight is very heavily inspired by the classic Mega Man games, very fun and totally deserving of the hype and love.

Elite Dangerous is awesome, but you essentially have to make your own fun. It literally just dumps you in a massive galaxy sandbox with a shitty ship and expects you to figure shit out. Do the tutorials, look up some starting guides if you need some help. I quite enjoy it, it really makes you feel like a space traveler, but it's not for everyone and can get repetitive if you just end up grinding shit like trading all the time. Once you start getting enough money to buy better ships and can do more combat and exploration, it gets really enjoyable. Good game if you just want to relax and fly around to, kind of like Euro Truck but in space if you just want to run deliveries.
Wait on Stellaris for right now, still needs a lot of work and content additions. It's good, but feels like it's still in beta or some shit and will likely be much better later this year after they finish fixing things and add more stuff.
>>
>>342579638
They randomized the tome/grim drops (the things that determine your loot roles) which effected new players' ability to grind the Horn (first map) for blue gear before moving on.

Community isn't dead, but you will want a friend with the DLC so that you can get into those maps, and the endgame is miserable because of the lack of checkpoints on even the longest levels.
