Because Family guy didn't use the tape once he found Clancy and Jack in the basement, it cuts out as he falls over with Andre. The parts you see at the start and end of the teaser with Clancy tied up happened before you wake up but aren't on a tape you can find in the house.

I think there is part of the house we haven't gotten into yet. I think you actually kill something with the hatchet and you use the dummy finger. I have suspicion that the finger is used on a fingerprint scanner to open something. I think the finger has been tampered with which would explain why the drawer it's found in has blood in it. I think the order of events is: Fuse, Boltcutters, VHS, axe, finish video, key into door but not opened, then the finger is used. Looking at the photo may change something but I honesty don't know. I feel like the board changes one based on what you interact with so where people are messing up the most is meeting the pre-reqs for the finger to work because they get tired of walking around and think they've looked at things a thousand times. People don't seem to get that after you interact with possibly anything, things change and you should be looking all over again.
So i see a lot of posts about the skeleton key a lot don't know what exactly it does and say its useless without actually using it so im going to explain what it CAN and what it CAN'T do.

I have a legit fear of mental patients. The game was a fucking nightmare for me. I suppose its all a matter of what you find scary. I for one, have the uncanny ability to be fully immersed in what ever game I'm playing. Alot of people just do not have that ability. After running around for multiple minutes with that one guy, hiding in the same locker over and over, and realizing how dumb and non-threatening everything was the atmosphere was pretty much ruined. I dropped the game for a really long time and came back and still had to force myself to finish it.The 'breaking point' was when I realized that even if he was not alerted to where you were or your presence, if you hide in a locker for whatever reason the A.I. will have them go to your location to try and unsettle you.

I know this is going to sound insane, but, here goes. I was talking to a friend earlier who mentioned a guy in a different shop who had played through the demo. When I asked him what the finger was for he said it fits into a finger scanner in the 3rd part of the demo. Completely nonchalant like it was nothing. I asked him what he was even talking about, if it was the same game, asked him some questions that wouldn't make sense about the fuse, stairs, and phone ringing and he seemed to generally know what was going on. He also said that the Boltcutters are used to wrench a window open on the second story and you go out of the house and climb down. He also mentioned that the headphones should be usable. You put them on and it muffles your hearing, but allows you to hear the ghost that has been spotted and she leads you to the aforementioned finger scanner. I messed around with somethings but nothing makes sense and it sounds like a bunch of "that kid" shit to me, but it really didn't seem like this guy was lying. He's generally a really helpful and kind guy, and he didn't seem to be obsessed with the game like people I've seen, it was just like he had simply played through the demo like it was just a game he had played. The inly thing I know is that completely finishing the video changes the board. It removes the fuse if you don't have it, moves the note, and puts the backdrops key down. I don't know if possibly consecutive runs through the tape will further alter the board or if this guy was just 100% full of shit. It would however give a final use to bothe the finger, and bolt cutters. It would also explain why you can go through the tape over and over because there's unfinished things to complete or pick up in it. I'm going to speak to him again, and hopefully figure something out. He also mentioned that combat is pretty much just 1 on 1 which leads me to believe the ace is used in actual fighting, not just to break boxes. I hope I can bring more to light.

So I have found something, and it is the dumbest shit ever.
Capcom really fucked up on this one.
I don't have proof yet, but give me another few hours and I'll have some, unless someone else wants to try it out for me.
Firstly, things that happen in the video affect the real house, which led me to believe that whoever saw the tape set up the house in a way that would make parallel the tape. So when you unlock the draw in the tape, you can get the axe in the real world.
With that in mind, I found out that the VHS is an actual S-VHS, which has a capacity of 9 hours when played super slowly. So I jumped into the tape, but never progressed past getting the Axe, not even leaving the room. The logic behind this was that if there is no evidence of what happens on the tape, then whoever is watching the tape has no reference to how the house should be set up.
So I planned on waiting the full 9 hours inside the tape, in hopes that something would happen when it ended. Well after 2ish hours I was booted from the Tape and the ladder was still available in the secret room.
That was as far as I got because I got family'd as soon as I tried to leave the room.
Gotta set it up again and hope I manage to record it this time.

The thing with horror games is it's spooky and intense until you die. The demo was great for one playthrough. I can't imagine playing the whole game twice.
