don't think they need a full rework, just minor buffs here and there to become useful classes. both are useful in pubs and passable in HL, it's 6v6 where they fall down because Sniper does Spy's job better and Pyro's only useful function is stalling ubers, buff them enough to circumvent those problems and you've fixed the issue

pyro's flamethrower mechanics themselves are pretty janky though, the way the cone works should either be made into hitscan or a jiggleboned object, rather than projectiles.

-they don't add new weapons, maps, or game modes

You can use it to get around the map more quickly at any time, without having to worry about the enemy because you won't be facing the enemy on the way to the frontline. Most Soldiers rocket jump to get to the front lines of battle, Escape Plan allows you to run part of the way and get there without having to make further jumps, saving you health in the process.

Also, if your health is REALLY low (say, 2HP) then taking mini-crits won't make a difference, because nothing does less than 3 damage. You'll die anyway.

This is why Escape Plan is overpowered and needs to be nerfed. Its downside is meaningless compared to how good its upside is, so 40% of Soldiers use it in pubs, and 70% of all Soldiers in comp.

i played overwatch solidly for a week and then quickly dropped it and went back to tf2. even with all those classes tf2 offers much more varied gameplay and does a greater job of facilitating individual player skill rather than letting everyone win (play on no crit servers if crits are such an issue)

also tf2 has many more maps and gamemodes, and community servers running community maps is something that overwatch will never have. tf2 accommodates both tryhard servers and pub servers so depending on what mood you're in there's always something for you.

i cannot see myself going back to overwatch any time soon. meanwhile my 12 year old sister loves it, probably because blizzard wanted that audience.

This scares me. TF2 still shares a LOT of movement with Quake, same with pretty much all other Source games (unless they specifically remove things like bunnyhopping etc like they did with TF2).

Against an equally skilled Soldier, the one wielding Escape Plan will have an undeniable advantage in options over the guy wielding stock. He can get around certain sections where it's not feasible to rocket jump faster, and he can escape to a pack or medic faster on low health, and he can melee better.

Escape Plan is a buff which Soldier, one of the strongest classes in TF2, doesn't need, and it should be nerfed so that his power is kept in check class-balance wise and the other melees like Half-Zat get a chance at use.

bulletbox for all hitscan attacks (and maybe splash? not sure).

every class shares the same sized collision hull as Heavy, so that there wouldn't be some small spaces which classes could squish into/bodyblock and others cannot.

TF2's bullet detection is very good, but the janky shit that happens with melee/fire/Huntsman arrows is a combination of individual player lag, the way fire particles work, projectiles NOT being lag compensated. Hitboxes is only a minor part of all the problems, really.

If Valve would just ban 300 ping huehue BRs from joining servers if they topped 300 ping, then a lot of these problems would disappear. I don't see why they have non-region-locked servers seeing as they have servers everywhere anyway.

I have a question.

You know when you walk into a doorway and spot a Sniper aiming at you? You immediately back the way you came, right?

Well, does anyone else jump backwards while whipping their head down and behind them? And does this really accomplish dodging a headshot, or have snipers just plain missed where my head was beforehand...?

It's a shame too because Blizzard's map editors used to be fucking amazing and encourage billions of pieces of community content, even accidentally inventing a genre.

WC3 map editor and Starcraft: Brood War map editor took up huge chunks of my youth fucking around making and playing FREE fun stuff, it was a goldmine.

demoman also has one of the trickiest jobs in 6v6 because your main counter, Scout, is fucking everywhere running around like a hyperactive twat.

I actually used Degreaser with a mix of the Shotgun (obv.fine), Flaregun (also fine), detonator (most fun, but garbage except on certain maps), and Scorch Shot (needs a buff as well). Always with the Powerjack, which is still the best melee thanks to the speed bonus for rollouts.
In lobbies I have to use the scorch shot just to do chip damage most of the time. People don't get caught by degreaser bullshit as often anymore and Pyro's job is basically to spycheck and m2 projectiles. It makes you appreciate the weakness of low range and average mobility.

In any level above pubs, if you're charging to meet any class directly on, you're going to get shot down before you ever reach them you dingus. Obviously you don't fucking charge at them. You WAIT for them and catch them off-guard. There's very little anyone can do against a well-laid Backburner ambush, regardless of your skill. Only the reasonably paranoid who check over their shoulder constantly have a decent chance.

I think Valve wanted this to be true but he sucks at it. He doesn't have anything that actually helps him get behind enemy lines like Spy does. Even Soldier has rocket jumping and self healing to make sneaking behind enemy lines a breeze. Then there's the Scout which is an amazing ambusher due to his mobility and burst DPS but is also the best 1v1 class in the game.

Different anon. In HL, you will always find scouts and soldiers to be the ones contesting the flank. Pyro melts to scouts and soldiers and thus sits with the combo, protecting them from spies and soldier bombs.

We can all agree that stalemates are the worst thing that can happen in TF2, because neither team gets any closure. Everyone is a loser in a stalemate. So, the point of objectives and timers is to avoid stalemates.

Depending on what the objective is, it might be suited better to defenders, or to attackers.

King Of The Hill, for example, is the most attacker-friendly mode. If you don't go to the middle of the map and stand on the point, your team will lose. This means the fighting will always happen, because both teams always want to be attackers, and if you don't attack, you will lose. Thus, stalemates cannot happen.

However, modes like Capture the Flag and Territorial Control are defender-friendly. The objective is right near your spawn, encouraging you to stay there. It's easier to defend your own base than it is to walk all the way to the enemy base, pick up the enemy intel, and get it out of their base past 1000 Sentries and Heavies. If you make an offensive push, you leave your defense open, and you allow the enemy an opportunity to kill you and then attack your base.

This means neither team wants to attack first and put themselves in that position, causing stalemates to occur as neither team attacks, thus not playing the game. So, stalemates are VERY common in tc_Hydro.

Territorial Control needs an overhaul to fix these problems before it gets another map.

unlike other modes like 5CP or A/D or Payload, there is only one point to be capped once to win, so wins are much quicker

Since the Ubersaw normally gets pulled after the initial fighting has happened, it means that Medic's crit chance will probably be very high from the damage his ally did in the fight.

Anyway Ubersaw is OP and I want to see it get any of the following: a damage penalty, increase to its swing speed penalty, or reduction of its uber on hit from 25% to 20%.

It allows Medic to build his Ubercharge 35 seconds faster than normal, and the only penalty he pays is swinging his melee 0.16 seconds slower. It lets a brief mistake by one of your allies lose you all the game.

degreaser was in fact effectively nerfed due to a bug https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Az-g0YIIpk, as well as actually nerfed by having its maximum airblasts possible reduced and having its afterburn damage turned into 20 over 10 seconds (aka never going to kill anything ever)
stock flamethrower getting buffed by 10 damage per second doesn't mean much when Degreaser was the best primary and the top of the power level for Pyros; it just means that all Pyro primaries are roughly equally terrible, instead of just one of them being good

airblast having its movestun removed was a fair and good nerf, but still a huge nerf which they didn't sufficiently compensate for with counter-buffs. 6s Pyro's ONLY job is to stall Ubercharges with airblast, and with stunlock removed it became a lot weaker at that

axtinguisher was nerfed and is now utter trash, it used to do 195 damage crits now it does 131, takes a whole second to equip, and has a 20% attack speed penalty. This means it does less DPS than the Flamethrower, and since doing more DPS than the flamethrower was its only job, it means pyro's only competitively viable melee options are homewrecker (if engie present) or powerjack, thus reducing the range of situations where it's a class worth choosing.

Phlog was also totally ruined, pre-TB it had a use in capping control points with the damage resist and heal, which is no longer possible during uber. It's still cancer in pubs, but no longer even slightly relevant in comp

Overall yes, Pyro WAS nerfed

I usually play Pyro on defense to counter roamers. That includes Soldiers, Scouts, Spies, and the occasional retarded Heavy. Pyro is pretty good in this role. Fire wrecks Spies period and airblast is good at keeping up with Scouts and Soldiers. In essense, I think Pyro is good at playing a semi-supportive defensive role. Throw a Homewrecker on him, and you're essentially playing pest control and it's pretty fun, IMO.

He's a long range sniper/medic/engie harasser, he can waste enemy ubers, if he can flank around the enemy he can be a deadlier disruptor than the Spy, he's the best target for a quick fix uber, he's the best synergy with a friendly engie, Third Degree is used so little you can usually kill a medic before he even realizes what is happening, you can stay on the backlines to keep your team alive via extinguishes and airblasting projectiles and help against pushes, he's the best spychecking class (obviously), if you get a decent angle on a sentry you can kill it in under a second, three if the engie is present... He's just so versatile and fun to play.
All that said, yes, he is weaker compared to classes like soldier and scout, but he is around the same level as the heavy. They just shine in different departments.

That only applies to extended ranges, my dude. There was no damage ADDED to the flamethrowers. The max potential damage never changed, just the falloff. Thus, the damage is exactly the same as it's always been, just more consistent. Degreaser in particular had damage removed via afterburn.

There's really only one potential negative shift in the matchups for pyro in this patch due to these pyro changes and that's pyro vs scout. Removes the .6s kill option on nonbuffed and makes it like .7s. So naturally this hurts the 6s pyro some but I mean you guys really weren't running him for the purpose of fighting scouts anyways.

Every other matchup that actually really matters just got faster for pyro's kill option with degreaser. Quite a bit on classes with above 150hp. Degreaser's damage in the preferred fighting range was increased by 50% (4 damage per tick to 6 damage per tick) due to the falloff changes and the damage reduction removal.

Well, it depends on a lot of factors. If you flanked around the healt target, if you're moving around, if the medic is communicating with the heal target, if the heal target is distracted...
For example, if the heal target is a heavy and he doesn't realize you're near
