One of the key things evident from Death Stranding’s E3 2016 reveal trailer is “the idea of life and death being connected to each other,” according to Kojima.
“Animals are connected with each other, people are connected to each other, so many things are connected,” Kojima tells IGN.
But it’s a short story by Kobo Abe that Kojima points to as a way to explain one of Death Stranding’s strongest themes.
“In this short story, Abe states that the first tool mankind created is a stick,” Kojima tells IGN. “He states that the stick is the first tool that mankind created to put distance between himself and bad things — to protect himself. He states that the second tool mankind created is a rope. A rope is a tool used to secure things that are important to you.”
Kojima points to the umbilical cord in the trailer, and the rope-like “umbilical cords” hanging from the actual title of the game.

“Most of your tools in action games are sticks,” Kojima continues. “You punch or you shoot or you kick. The communication is always through these ‘sticks.’ In [Death Stranding], I want people to be connected not through sticks, but through what would be the equivalent of ropes… But of course you will be able to use the sticks too.”
How this idea manifests in-game remains to be seen, but Kojima says there are other “small things and small messages” hidden in the Death Stranding trailer.

how do you make a player's life be valuable in a video game
video games like DayZ for instance, because they are free for all, are ruined by everyone just killing each other. In the real world you would never just kill a useful person, you could make them a slave, make them an ally, learn from them, ransom them etc

I'm an artist(Concept art, woo!) myself and I can kinda see what he's trying to say but it's still fucking obscure as shit. Artists tend to make weird connections that make perfect sense to them, in their heads but to communicate that to someone else can be difficult. Like, my entire job is to communicate an idea or concept. I have to design a person or object that will be able to tell a story through it's design and visuals alone. Where it came from, who made it, what it's for, how it's used, what it's been through, ect. Sometimes connections work in my head but not when I transfer that idea to words or paper.
Seriously its just... what? So sticks are individual objects that are used to stay away from "bad things". As in, you attack an enemy, or roll away from them. These actions are sticks to him. But the things you want to keep protected, secure, Like story? The characters relations you want to keep secure? Things you want to secure. Your morals? Your life? Your community? Is he just doing a roundabout way to say your actions will have meaning in the in-game world. Where you kill something it will be connected to the world in someway. So you need to be careful of your actions or the rope to the things you want to secure will become undone?

There's no possible way in shit that anyone could look at the trailer and think the umbilical cords are a reference to ropes that reference the work of Kobo Abe and the nature of human tools. It would be absolutely absurd to extrapolate that accurately just from seeing some umbilical cord imagery, unless you can read Kojima's mind.
If the trailer is full of other 'hints' like that, then he's either going to have to spell it out or forget it.

The game is "open world" that wants you to do specific missions from a list. You select the mission, get dropped in a large world so you can approach the mission in the way you choose to do so.
With how large the maps are people approach it like it was far cry or witcher 3. The maps should have been more varied and the size of Ground Zeroes instead.

Huh, it's kinda funny how that was the first thing it popped in my head when the first "holy shit, this is pretentious" wave had passed and i tried to understand the trailer, the first thing we see is a bunch of dead crabs in a desolate place with a sad ambiance behind, right afterwards we see reedus holding with joy the baby, representing life. The controls were awful, having delays between every single action is not fun. Combat was just spam the square button and babysit the white girl.
Speaking of babysit the white girl, it is seriously not fun, I like how they implemented her into some puzzles and the puzzles were genuinely great but beyond that you just run around holding R1 and waiting for her to slowly climb ledges and ladders, her AI pathing was unbearable.
I was so disappointed. I played SotC first and I absolutely loved it, it is still one of my favourites and so I went into Ico expecting something great too.
After 4 or so hours, I gave up. I felt myself not wanting to play it the further I got until I just turned off the console and did something else.
I was so interested in the eerie desolate atmosphere and the design of the castle was really drawing me in, the mystery of it wall was exciting.
But then the gameplay just killed it. I couldn't stomach it and I don't think I will ever finish that shit.

Looking at every other Kojima game so far, the story has ended in someone dying.
Kojima has stated in regards to Death Stranding that the game will be less about using "sticks" to distance yourself, but using "ropes" to bring the things you want to protect closer. Not about fighting -- about protection.
"Animals are connected with each other, people are connected to each other, so many things are connected" This ties into everything I said earlier about the five men being divine and your relation to them. In the trailer Norman is isolated except for the fetus which he is connected to. This brings up a lot of questions:
1) If they're connected, if species share the same fate, then why does Norman choose to be stranded on Earth when it's very heavily implied he can fly?
2) Why did the child die yet Norman is still alive? Well, we /could/ take the route of assuming this entire thing is "pretentious" like you seem to love doing and just trying to read into the symbolism of it all, call the five men the five archangels, call the child a stillborn, say Norman is facing some internal struggle etc etc.. or we could take it as literally as possible and use the information we have presented to us to actually get somewhere:
Normal men obviously can't have children. Norman is not a normal man. His baby is a normal baby. Normal people are dying/dead. His baby is dead now.
3) If the five figures are as menacing as they're being portrayed, if they have brought all of this death as it's being implied.. then why do they not attack Norman?
Sure, there are a lot of other ways this could be interpreted, but this is the most logical and most realistic version of it. The idea that you'd kill one of them to protect humanity/something greater while killing yourself in the process.. a sacrifice for the greater good.. that's one of the more popular tropes across all media.
