Everything else we've ever known about the games story and world is still there. And Nomura changed teh fucking character designs multiple times even when it was Versus, and since 2013 only Regis, Prompto and Luna have had slight design changes. The gameplay for Noctis is the same thing we saw him doing in 2011 and since, while only the other characters were change to menu baed commands with an ATB. Versus BECAME XV.

Of course they're paid. That's their job. They work for companies that use game reviews and previews to acquire revenue. And they have marketing deals with publishers, and deals to get early reviews. They even agree to embargoes in order to continue receiving goodies.
This isn't a hidden conspiracy in the shadows. It's just old fashioned conflict of interest. These are corporations, some of them are worth billions, and they exist to make money. They don't make money by being adversarial.
There's a reason almost every AAA game preview is overwhelmingly positive, same with reviews, and then two months later the journo who reviewed it acknowledges the game was mediocre at best.

No it just means Ben and Damiana are lacking context which they admitted themselves. The version they played plops them straight into chapter 1 without the intro cutscenes and without you doing chapter 0.
Other than that there was only three main issues they had, one was FPS and crashing, which in case you didn't know they were playing a PC dev build and ben said it crashed to desktop. 2 was Damiani saying it felt empty but what he didn't realize is that it's a fucking wasteland desert and even in all the footage we just saw today I can still see large monsters like Bloodhorn, the Zu, the reapertails and such all around the area. 3 was the newspaper scene which Ben said felt sudden, but he didn't realize that that was the point in that it feels very sudden and feels like you as the player are being left in the dark because that is how Noctis is feeling at that time.
Ben then went on to say that what he saw at the SE stage show was much better than what he played too.
