The singleplayer is quite good and a learning experience and exactly what you ask for, also give VR training a go for specifics. Ultimately playing co-op with a group online vs AI is considered the norm.

Singleplayer in Arma is not something that fits in its nature, the whole core of the game lays in multiplayer.
The best idea would be to join a non milsim group and go from there. Arma is sorta like Eve in the fact that playing with people is the easiest and most non autistic way to enjoy the game.
Going Solo on pubservers makes you with for the SS to show up and give you a new breathing hole in the back of your neck.
a3g used to be a good entry level group with the added bonus of everyone beeing a well versed memer. The resurrection of a3g named "Al-Kibab" might be worth a look, its pretty burger oriented tho but euro ops happens on weekends.
Just be prepared for 20gigs of extra content when joining a private group.

The broken inventory that lags, sometimes refuses to let you move items in or out and just won't open on the full inventory of a dead soldier 7 out of 10 tries.
The obnoxious server messages that clutter the chat rendering it utterly useless.
Shitty personnal armor simulation that turn CSAT infantry into fucking tanks, particularly against 5.56 which can't even kill with a bullet to the face.
Shitty armor system which gives choppers paper thin armor so much you crash land half the time but somehow jets can take three missiles before they go down.
Bad collision, physx which when they don't just kill you over random environment damage just get you stuck in every corners and sucked up inside corners of building often floating to your death.
Generally poor weapon animations and sensations, despite some improvements, and absolutely awful sway and fatigue mechanics that takes out all the fun of firing your weapon.
All the kind of shit that makes me want to uninstall the game just never get fixed.
