An open world adventure game set during some of the wars during the Third Age, there's shit tonne of stuff happening in those years that could all fuel a game, http://lotr.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline_of_Arda#Third_Age , and you don't need to come up with some convoluted lore-rape to create a story. You can hang around with the people of Gondor, you can hang around with the Rohirrim, the Elves etc. Just make the main character Dunedain and you have an excuse to why he can walk into pretty much any court in the west.and made my CDproject

LoTR(though LoTR is a misleading name, since Lord of the Rings is basically a side story, though very elaborated one, in the history of Arda) is a far grander and more ambitious work than the other two.
Basically, Witcher and GoT are a series of books written by their respective authors.
What Tolkien did is that he spent 60 years of his life building a mythology, which he called his legendarium. He started working on the thing when he was 20 and stopped when he died.

I think the witcher world is the more interesting of all three. Humans being teleported from a dystopian future instead of just being created by gods into a world is genius, specially because it opens the settings to so much crazy shit (like ciri traveling to the cyberpunk 2077 world while hiding from the wild hunt).

That's basically what DAC does. Elves of Grey Havens/Imladris/Lothlorien/Mirkwood elf king guy all are their own factions. The evil factions are all split up, as well, so in a way every part of the world has their own slice of the great war to deal with.
