This DLC reminds me why i love Fallout. Great atmosphere and amazing storyline. You easily get sucked into the island's mysterious environment, which just makes you want to keep exploring.

If this is a sign of what to come in future Fallout 4 DLC's, i'm excited. Why isn't /v/ playing Far Harbor?
>>
>>340804930
I am, actually.

I'm actually genuinely impressed at the size of the map, it's comparable to the base games and seems to have a lot to do.

I swear to God I'm not Todd.
>>
Might have to get this. I just got the main game and I'm bummed out because so far it's not too exciting. I don't think I'm too far into it yet, though (I just rescued Valentine.) Hard to explain why I'm not enjoying it. It "feels" sluggish. Kinda like I felt playing Doom 3 after playing Doom 2 for ages, if that makes any sense. Thinking about starting it all over again because I may messed up the SPECIAL to begin with and it's fucking up my playstyle.
>>
>>340804930
Fallout 4 is not an RPG.
>>
>>340804930
I waiting for all the dlc to come out to try the game.
>>
is it comparable to point lookout?
>>
Far Harbor was pretty crap.
>>
>>340804930
I started a new playthrough to try out this dlc. Holy shit this game gets so boring very fast, I gave up after killing Kellogg. Haven't touched the Far Harbor dlc, but I know it would be boring like the base game too. Such a garbage game.

Recently started replaying Witcher 3 for the Blood and Wine dlc, 71 hrs in, lvl 27, not bored at all.
>>
>>340807773
In some ways yes
But it has a bigger focus on mutated wild life then PO
>>
>>340808898
You should give it a try
You might be pleasantly surprised
>>
>>340804930
I agree op. A huge map to explore new enemies and the change of atmosphere was really nice. And the detective job in valt 118 was pretty kool as well
>>
>>340808898

>dont play it

Youre only hurting yourself lol

i'm already bored after beating the story. i feel fallout 4 wont top 3 or NV

Wow what a great story. Admittedly it did a much better job than the base game. Did have good atmosphere though

>>340804930
>Great atmosphere
it's like an amalgamation of Point Lookout and Honest Hearts. I thoroughly enjoyed both of those DLCs. But the thing is, great atmosphere is the only decent thing about Far Harbor.

>amazing storyline
Bethesda desperately shot for a compelling storyline this time around, even more so than the main story. But they fucking fell short because they still. cannot. grasp. what made the faction system in New Vegas so great.
>>
>>340804930
>No cool ass mutated sea monsters
>No spoopy Cthulu shit
>Barely any interesting locations
>No interesting quests outside of the main quest
It was shit, m8. Sorry to break it to you.
>>
why can't Bethesda produce a storyline that isn't pathetically poignant or initiated by emotion?

>Fallout 3
>you are your father's son, you must find your father

>Fallout 4
>you are your son's father, you must find your son

>Far Harbor
>you must find the lost daughter of a couple

come on now
>>
>>340812497
100% this

Nothing interesting to see, or do at all. Same shit as 4.
>>
>>340812808
there was neat sub. sorta. the inside was shit though
>>
>>340812894
The quest itself would have been so much better if it was an actual sea monster and not a sub
>>
I went through the side quests first like I always do with Fallout and was heartbroken to find I was just walking around shooting things like always.

The good:
>DiMA is more interesting than most of the rest of FO4
>The island is an interesting setting and the harbor itself is a pretty cozy place
>The bowling ball Fat Man. Not because it's a good weapon, it was really ineffectual from what I found- but because it's a UNIQUE weapon you find in a place with BACKSTORY. Holy fuck, this has always been one of my favorite parts of modern Fallout and TES both, hunting for cool unique weapons. It was entirely gone in FO4.
>There's a part where you have to cure a guy using either intelligence stat or doctor skill. As far as I can tell this is the only thing that uses your skills, though.
>>
>>340812731
They're all written by the same hack who can't do anything besides "Muh family" plots. He somehow won an award for it.
>>
>>340812497
yeah this. does anyone at bethesda read lovecraft or understand the cthulu mythos AT ALL? i mean dragonborn is apretty obvious reference. why the FUCK didn't they implement something like that?
>>
>>340804930
I really enjoyed fallouts base game and far harbor was incredible, a great model of how they should make future DLC. But I dont think FO4 will top 3 or NV.

>Fallout 4
>you are your son's father, you must find your son

>Far Harbor

>>
>>340804930
DIMA was the only interesting plot in this whole DLC. While i can agree the map was designed well that was never really the problem with Fallout 4. Just like the Automatron cash grab DLC this does nothing for the lore or universe of Fallout.

The Fog was a great excuse to have a large map filled with absolutely fucking nothing.

Bravo Betheda.
>>
>>340815810
Yeah, that was fucking cool. It was different. I loved it.

We don't have to start EVERY game with a fish out of water entrance. FO:NV assumed "Okay, you probably understand how this shit works. We've been doing this for like five games. Get out there."

In FO4 you can have an option to say "what's a ghoul?" after you've been wandering the wastes for hours upon hours and it's just like holy fuck
>>
>>340815810

>Fallout 2
>just some random tribal

What?
>>
>>340815810
>implying being from a vault is important
>implying blank slates in RPGs are a bad thing
>implying a courier isn't a decent neutral background for a southwestern character

Dumbest shit about NV was the fact that they slapped a vault suit on you at the beginning because it's iconic.
>>
>>340804930
>Why isn't /v/ playing Far Harbor?

Because it was practically unplayable on PS4 at launch. And then Blood and Wine came out so I've been playing that instead

>We don't have to start EVERY game with a fish out of water entrance.
You wake up with amnesia after being shot in the head. The game assumes that you don't understand how to operate in the world, and introduces you to the mechanics and factions in a tutorial that spans around the south bend from Goodsprings to Nipton. For the most part, it's a well-hidden tutorial. However, it absolutely does assume that you don't know how shit works.
>>
>>340816195
Good thing I swapped out for some good leather armor the first chance I got.
>>
>>340816556
It's a tutorial you can skip around, and for the most part it serves to introduce mechanics and factions that are new or have changed in the meantime

there isn't a part where you're like "Ghoul? What's a ghoul?" to my knowledge
>>
>>340815810
>Fallout New Vegas
>Go on a quest to find the man that shot you into the head and left you to die in a cemetery
>Become a central part of the regional power struggle that will forge the Mojave for years to come

>Dead Money
>You answer the call of a long dead casino and get recruited against your will to break into said casino in a casino heist that was 200 years into the making

>Honest Heart
>Find yourself in a battle of survival between three tribes, with one of them led by a man that lost everything. One of the tribes is doing the will of the Legion, on behave of a man that hold a grudge against you.

>Old World Blues
>Get captured and lobotomized by a group of old world scientists that cheated death by abandoning their humanity. They wanted to asked your brains about the world outside of Big MT, since they are trapped inside a series of fences that fries brains. Everything was Mobius' plan to keep his former colleagues occupied, since he knew that if they escaped Big MT, it could be a new end of the world.

>Lonesome Road
>A man obsessed with the old world and butthurt about a deed that happened years ago is using Big MT tech to awaken the monstrosities that ended the old world. Also, Bears and Bulls.
>>
>>340817605
You can ask what the deal with the dam and NCR/Legion conflict is in Goodsprings which is kinda the same idea.
>>
>>340817605
Asking what the term "ghoul" refers to doesn't mean that you haven't encountered one. It simply means that you haven't heard the term before.

I believe that your first encounter with Marcus in Jacobstown is the closest analogue. You react as if you didn't know that super mutants could be intelligent, even though that was the case in previous games
>>
>>340817640
>White 3 4 and FH's plots as basic as possible
>Go on a diatribe for NV and it's DLC's

I love NV and it's DLC's far more than the 4 and the shit we got as DLC's for it but come on now.
>>
>>340816187
i think anon misread it as dagonborn
>>
>>340816187

The Seekers and Lurkers in Dragonborn are kinda Lovecraftian in design (modelled after the star-spawn of cthulhu and the deep ones, respectively). And Hermeus looks like some indescribable mass of ichory tentacles; that also checks out.
>>
>>340817948
The motherfuckers hud literally says ghoul
>>
>>340816556
you can go from goodsprings to vegas if you're freeling like a tough cunt and have atleast a grenade launcher to kill the death claws
