Shinobi is great fun but also very unforgiving. Never played the sequel (Nightshade) so I can't speak for it.

Decent vid of the game but the guy playing isn't the best. You can pull off some crazy speed (~100mph) and tricks if you're good.
All the characters are great too.

Aw man I used to have this game growing up. My best friend and I would play it like some sort of fighting game/racing hybrid where we'd beat the shit out of each other to gain and regain the lead. IIRC you could also beat up people and animals and watch them rag doll down the course.

The combat was broken as hell and I loved it. There's nothing better than doing 18 quick backflips 2 seconds out of the starting gate and just pegging everyone with instant kill homing water bottles.
Or doing the same but guarding the finish line from all the NPC racers.
Shit was great.
