What is helpful is to use a program that can support multiple simultaneous viewports at different zoom levels, so you can work pixel by pixel but also see the 100% result in real time. Almost anything will let you hunt and pick if you zoom enough, but particularly when getting started it's useful to be able to get a feel for the bigger picture too.

Take The Last of Us for example. It's praised up and down for its story. But if that same gameplay were about a french man and a midget looking for pieces of their broken laptop, the game might not be commended at all for its story, but the game is still damn good.

I love doing this for any game out there, that I enjoy. If you're able to describe a game you like without ANY reference to plot, characters or setting, you might just have something at your hands. It's shocking if you do that to certain modern games. There's very little left in terms of actual mechanics and gameplay. It's all just "story". It also helps to gain a deeper understanding of what the game actually is.

Snatcher's art, on the Sega CD at least, isn't bad for the Sega CD. I like Snatcher because of the world and Gillian and the concept, and it's just fun to 'play' out the whole scenario, makes you feel like you're doing some risky detective work. Honestly, Snatcher is not a good game, but it's not a bad one either. It lacks 'game' but the suspense and atmosphere that i feel every time i play it makes up for it. Also the music is pretty nice

Pixel art is moreor less defined by how much precision you put into the placrment of single pixels. Doesn't mean you have to place them all by hand one-by-one, but you know where everything goes.
