I joined a game already in progress. Looked like the team needed a tank so I just picked Roadhog without thinking about it. The offense's payload was 2.5 meters away from ending the match, holy fucking shit why did I even get put in this game, it's over.

The other tanks have shields (Rein, Zarya, Winston, Dva) that block damage but don't build the enemy's ult meter. You don't get ult for shooting Rein's shield wall.
Roadhog doesn't have a shield, he just has the highest base health (600) in the game.
So he's a giant hitbox. But unlike Rein with shield up (also a giant hitbox), every time someone shoots hog they get ult built up. If he's being constantly healed/selfhealing, it just builds their meters faster.
He's basically a blob of ult points you can endlessly shoot.

If its a close quaters situation where your team would probably benefit quite a lot from that reinhardt shield going down, and you aren't in too much danger at the time, i like to walk through the shield and hook him at point blank, since it cuts out his shield for a few seconds and you can probably kill him in that time.
Otherwise, if its a slowly approaching reinhardt with his whole team behind him, i just spray right click shots at him to damage the shield as much as possible and maybe force a retreat before they can push in.

flank him is the most reliable option. You can also wait it out and react to the fireball he will eventually shoot. If you're fast enough you can grab him while his shield is lowered for the attack and really ruin his day. You can easily aid in the breaking of his shield too, you shotgun blasts really do a number on it.
