Untended Graves points to the existence of places being stolen from points in time and warped in fucked up pocket dimensions, and most BB Great Ones, Kos for example, get fucked up by random people. Hell if you summon NPCs you can have almost every god in the game get killed by some random idiot.
In addition, half the Great Ones resemble the chaos flame warped shit from Dark Souls, like the Bed of Chaos and Quelaag. People are also revealed to be transformed into beasts by the Pontiff in 3, beasts INCREDIBLY similar to the Watchdogs of the Old Lords in BB, and the Pthumerians look almost EXACTLY like the Hollows in DS3 and had a kingdom named Loran that fell.
There are many many connections.

Is Beast possessed soul considered a boss or a random mob that was labeled a boss in chalices? There's only one found in normal areas of the game and it's pretty hidden but you can also find a mob version of the blood starved beast in hunter's nightmare.

The thing is though, with the exception of the Moonlight Greatsword, and Patches, every other reference means SOMETHING usually and has some kind of significance.
I don't think the Great Ones are much different beyond their titles, which is given to them by the people anyway. The One Reborn is technically a sort of Great One made by the School of Mensis, and it's just a mashup of corpses, no different than Nito or The Rotten. Every single Great One in the game, regardless of Lovecraftian influences, differs greatly from those kind of works, and are far more similar to the gods in Dark Souls, seeing as a random guy (or several) can grind them into fucking dust with normal weapons made to kill beasts.
Most of them aren't even truly otherworldly or from space. Kos is proven to come from the ocean, the Amygdalas are only in the real world with the exception of one, located in a nightmare realm very likely made by Micolash and his buddies, similar to the Mensis one considering they're both accessed through his lecture halls, Rom is manmade, as are all the Kin, and Ebrietas lived in the labyrinth but still resembles an ocean creature more than anything.

False. Honestly the game feels like a slog to replay up until Amelia. Central Yharnam is boring as fuck and easy, with Gascoigne dying in literally under a minute if you can parry, and Old Yharnam just fucking sucks to play through.
At least you can skip the latter in NG+ with no consequences but fuck making a new character.
Salt and Sanctuary is far better than those shitgames.

It was really only ebrietas, logarius and gehrman that changed that feeling, the dlc was pretty good as well
All souls games other than demons souls have had their opinions changed massively with the dlc though, so there's not much point dwelling on release date opinions, as so much of the original bloodborne criticism is now irrelevant or excusable because of the dlc being the main focus
It happened with aota, it happened with crowns, it happened with old hunters, and I have very little doubt that the DLC's for dark souls 3 won't follow up in the all out glory.

It's a manifestation ofOcelotte.Ocelotte is a spirit, a soul without a vessel. Oceiros wanted to create a vessel for his child of dragons, but Ocelotte was too strong. From hollows to drakes, Ocelotte could not be contained. During the fight, Oceiros begs his son to show himself, wanting to manifest. There's an area filled with hollows filled with the Pus of Man, and beyond Ocerios is the Untended Graves, and there sits Champ Gundyr. It's a common theory that since there are two Firelink Shrines, the one you start off in is the one that is in the relative future of the other, though which one is present is up for debate. When you kill Champ, Ocelotte tries to manifest in his corpse to try to kill you when you first start the game.

That's not the cycle DS2 invented, anon. That's just the gods trying to keep their age going because 'fuck the humans.' Gwyn was afraid of losing his power so wanted the fire to keep going. That's it. There was no indication of this cycle nonsense in DS1. It was just people in power wanting to remain in power for as long as possible, damn the consequences.
And with DS2's idea of "the embers can reignite themselves even within total darkness," it just negates what the dark actually is in DS1.

I didn't say the gods literally WERE the Great Ones, and in fact, the "gods" are hardly even gods at all, just big dudes who are kind of better than normal humans. Even when they're young like Gwyndolin they're very killable with no issues.
The Great Ones are just similar, powerful beings that the world chose to worship instead. Great Ones are more similar to creatures like Aldrich, Nito, and the Bed of Chaos. Strong, godly, but not literally the pussy ass gods that get referred to as such in Dark Souls.
Besides, Rom proves that it's very possible to ascend a normal being to powerful Great One status, so there's nothing saying the Great Ones that currently lord over Bloodborne Land aren't just very similar things from eons long past.

Regardless the Hunter proves that ordinary ass humans can become Great Ones anyway, so regardless it's a moot point. People can turn into fucked up squid monster things. That's fact. See also The Brain of Mensis, which while shitty, still counts.
Also to go back to your earlier point, nothing says Great Ones can't communicate with humans. Most Great Ones don't even cause Frenzy, only mostly Micolash's weird shit like the pigs, brain and winter lanterns do, along with the church crosses and church experiment slug things, all at least somewhat manmade.
Ebrietas somehow must have communicated with the church to make a point of being benign, Moon Presence and Gherman must have communicated before, and Patches talks to Amygdala, etc. The Brain and One Reborn are fucked up and failed beyond belief so it's so surprise they can't talk or understand, and Orphan is a baby.

Yes, the DS "gods" (the beings you mention, excluding Aldritch) are just holders of Lord Souls, and not even all of them. Only Gwyn and friends styled themselves as such, the others were ok being lords of death or inventors of pyromancy or whatever. Our protagonist in DS1 basically ascends to their powerlevel simply by murdering and taking the souls of everyone on his path. Standard fantasy fare basically.

Well on the point of communication. Great Ones can communicate with people but it results in insanity. A medium is required such as the celestial emissary.
In gameplay terms the language of the Great Ones can't be understood traditionally. They need to be inscribed on the brain as the runes. In the case of your Hunter you can only know a handful of runes first. So a running conversation with a great one would probably overload a brain like it did when Micolash conjured a great one in the Mensis ritual. The result was the still birth of his and his followers brains. Basically they were on the crusp of new life but the Elderitch Truth was too great.
So in a way the Great Ones can't communicate with humanity, not in anyway that a man would understand without some measure of protection or shoddy translation.

Finally, the Great Ones might just not want to link the flame. They're doing fine as-is, there's no reason to assume they'd want to. It's not like Vordt of the Boreal Valley is obligated to link the flame just because he's a boss.

The knowledge of soul arts was lost. And it's implied that they would be regained and everything out repeat again. After all the monumental of before recounts how the same thing happened. The reason you become a monumental is too be there when everything happens again.

It wasn't that but the presence of the Elderitch truth that the Pthumerians learned. It was something embedded in BB world since it's Middle Ages. Blood and knowledge transferred through blood are it.
There's also the lack of the nexus which held the world together. In BB there are dreams upon dreams, sprawling and infinite without any need to have something keeping them going. Every host of a dream that you kill leaves to the real world unless they're a great one, in which case they could transfer to other dimensions.
There was the Great Old One in DeS, the host of all demons who raises when the soul arts are regained and practiced and is summoned when someone dumb enough to search for power finds it.

As much as people joke about souls being 90% fan-written, Miyazaki does leave enough breadcrumbs to form a consistent narrative in each game.
The reason why I say it adds nothing of value is because it doesnt. For one of DeS and BB are the same universe then they are a disservice to each other. BB talks nothing about the pursuit of the soul arts and man's nature as a prey species. DeS makes no hints about the curse and power of blood and the loss of children.
The only theme the hammer down is the danger of knowledge. Even then both games have drastic differences in how that knowledge is perceived.
In conclusion if Miyazaki wanted the connection he made little to no effort to create. It's to the point that it's a dumb, wild theory.
