I'm the biggest Witcher fanboy you could ever hope to find but even I have to admit that the ending to Blood and Wine was underwhelming. It was marketed as the grand finale of the Witcher saga and while it was certainly a very good self-contained add-on it failed to conclude the story in a satisfactory style. We only got one short and corny scene with Regis and one horrible scene with Yen/Triss/Ciri.
Everything else is top notch though.

The truth is you have as much combos as Witcher, only more weapon variety which doesn't fit witcher at all, and a terrible camera. The main difficulty of Souls comes from dealing with it's mechanics, giving it s top-level view would completely trivialize the game.
Want a game with tight combat? Dragon's Dogma.
Even then it's not an argument. The combat is serviceable and fills it's purpose well - to feel like you're a Witcher. There's more ways to play a game than beat your shiny sword around, and witcher excels in those areas.

Because there is no official GoG player count, only the word of CDPR (which is about as reliable as Todds). Roaming around on foot or on your horse is fucking amazing, especially with the vegetation density, you really feel like you're travelling in a living world, this works also for exploring towns too. The missions where there is no or little combat are also the bests, the writing is so fucking good you can feel the tension when you're in a situation of choice knowing you can easily fuck it up.

It's also disingenuous to compare it to DD or Souls, games that are frequently praised for their combat, when he's referring to the average ARPG. I'd also like to note that DD in particular suffers from a fair number of issues with it's combat. The base game gets incredibly easy as you level, multiple vocations are far more powerful or weaker than others to the point of outright breaking the game, combat as a lot of vocations can end up just being spamming certain skills until everything is dead, and the mob variety gets incredibly dull after a point which is made far worse by the fact that everything gets incredibly easy, especially if you're making it a point to do all the quests you find.

I remember one time I was forewarned by my God with an unclear message that a child was dangerous and could wind up becoming or awakening some evil and I was supposed to kill him. I'm sitting there while my party is yelling at each other and fighting guards debating whether or not I'm actually supposed to murder a child. What if I got it wrong? What if I got it right, but nobody else knows that? What if it wasn't even my God? That's more memorable than almost all the fights we got into or almost any of the boss fights I've had in most games.

You unlock different attack effects and combo.
Even some potions can cause you to play very differently, like regenerating vitality from damage dealt.
Your gameplay does in fact evolve, you just need to be playing on something other than normal to be forced into it, or choose to do it.
Combat only stays the same if you keep it the same, since you can do that on low difficulty.

Finished Blood and Wine and started NG+ for the second time. I didn't complete NG+ the first time since BaW came out halfway through so this will be my fourth and probably last playthrough.
I love Witcher 3 but people defending bad elements of combat using "muh GOTY" as counter argument are really pathethic.
Examples:
Want to get treasure, so run for it and jump trough platforms. Suddenly some far away harpies starts to fly around. Geralt automatically switch into mandatory combat mode which prevents me from jumping and interacting with objects. To get loot I have to go down, run back to harpes, kill them all to cancel combat mode so I can finally fucking interact with treasure.
Accidentally steal some apple in front of city drunkard peasant looking guards. Suddenly every one of them is overleveled and more powerful than king of Wild Hunt, final boss of whole Witcher saga.
That's just bad game design.
