My dad spends his free-time making quad-copters and from what I've gathered, he hopes to get into the racing scene to make a bit of money. This kind of thing takes time and practice; he has bags full of spare rotors and has sunk cold hard cash into it as well (he has a carbon-frame for the quad which costed him over £200, on top of the batteries, rotors, and the controller). Simply from giving it a go with a smaller, training quad, I can tell he's put time into going out and flying it in even the toughest of scenarios, namely because I managed to smash his quad into a fucking tree in less than three seconds.
Now that I'm done with my blog, let me ask you a question; how is that any different from sitting at a computer? He stands up and watches a copter fly in the air for hours. How is that different from sitting down and looking at a screen for hours? If you spend all your days being an artist, all you are doing is looking at a canvas and adding colors and lines. How is that REALLY different from Video games? You could argue skill, but considering older blokes can't even hold a controller right, let alone play a fucking game, let alone enter a competitive sceneeven if I think e-sports is cancer, it's undeniable that you need to train for it; learn the spots on a map and shit

Late to the party, but I'm part of based NHS and see a lot of families in conflict. I'd say the the Father is definitely scared and an idiot. Scared parents do some of the most dangerous things when it comes to "fixing" their children, plus being irrational, manipulative, and technophobic doesn't help. Being a child with a dependency means that the conflict is unlikely to be resolved internally in a safe manner. There was no mention of getting a job, which would be the usually goto comment when a parent is trying to guilt a child, and at no point in the manipulative tirade was a disability mentioned - so I'd say the child is younger than 20 and able bodied. That means that the Father is more worried about the child's choice of lifestyle and the perceived quality of that life, than say: getting an education, or moving out. He rejects the idea that somebody can have a happy and fulfilling life through technology, and although that's quite a valid concern, with a healthy mindset there's nothing wrong with it. All the Father's other objections are just stemming from this as he throws everything he can to see what sticks. Oh, and the marriage is a shambles just like half the marriages in this hellhole. Our stiff upper lip society means couples never admit incompatibility, so they stagnate, live unhappily, and have unhappy children. Shame, but NHS will make it all better ;_;
Opening an honest discussion with the parents seems unlikely with the Father involved, so I'd suggest seeking counseling for anxiety. Most people are socially anxious to a degree, but I'd hazard a guess that Louie has more call for counseling than most. Aside from helping him, the counseling will likely make the Father more empathetic, and perhaps make him realize the error of his blunt approach. Seeing the child take action on their own also builds the parents' confidence in his abilities.
