but you don't really need a study. what's the ratio of men vs women on a forum of any mainstream game, even for ones starring female protags or having an option for a male or female protag? or any general gaming forum like neofag, a developers forum like bsn, or a themed one like rpgcodex or ttlg? i also assume most people met women in their lives. how many of them expressed any interes in games you like? probably a very small percentage. on one person, it might be a sample bias, but pretty much everyone will have a similar story.

The 'women are 50% of the gaming audience' statistic is about as weak a statistic as you can get. It originates from a questionnaire that is produced every year by this same organisation and the question that provides the ~50% figure is always the broadest possible type of question. One year it was 'have you played a video game for more than 2 minutes in the last year?'.
So basically that 50% figure doesn't actually equate to time or money spent on gaming. According to that statistic, someone that games every night and spends $1000 a year on games would be considered just as influential as someone that played a free tetris game for 5 minutes.

I knew this huge neckbeard through a friend. He was a cool guy, into all sorts of rad video games and had an impressive collection. Then he lost a bunch of weight, which was fantastic for him, but then he got a girlfriend, suddenly started selling his collection and I haven't seen or heard of him since.
