I think it was a great first effort, and having watched the G4 icons episode for it I find the concept and creation very interesting
It led them right into the 360 which in the US seemed to mostly kick the PS3's ass even if it was the lesser console.

It's a real old fag thing but J Allard ripped into the PC gaming industry at the time and said incidents like the launch of Half Life 2 (Buggy as shit launch and Steam was complete fucking trash) were unacceptable so they were implementing a policy that publishers on 360 had to ship a working game or pay QA costs for a patch because it was unacceptable for customers to have to wait to play a game they just bought and just because 360 had hard drive capability, it didn't entitle publishers to just fix mistakes later. They had one free patch, but after that it was $40,000 or so per patch afterwards. This policy even included the indies they signed.
It all went to shit when Allard and Moore left because devs started crying how steam and Sony were giving them free patches so they could ship what they liked so it made MS look like the bad guy for saying "Don't ship a broken game". Now it's standard that games ship with problems.
There was a book by one of the original 4 co-creators of the Xbox huge who left in 2010 and it's heartbreaking near the end of it because Matrick was fracturing the entire division, even froze out the MS studios and Xbox Live teams from decision making and only allowing an inner circle of management, never mind it's relation to the rest of MS and everything just broke down that people weren't as happy to work because they were making as big a contribution to the company like they were under the original Xbox teams and even talented teams with game ideas were being forced into making "Apps" or Kinect because that was the direction.

the 360's were built pretty bad too, they overheat way too easily and have a really annoying sticking disc tray problem. It's telling how unprofessional the problem is when their official solution is to get a paper clip and poke at hole in the disc tray that they specifically built to combat the problem.

The OG Xbox was great with tons and tons of good underrated exclusives, yeah sure all the casuals knew about was Halo, but if you weren't a fucking casual shitstain you'd know the console has a fucking good library, plus it's highly moddable. A hacked OG Xbox is literally the best console available since it allows you to mod games just like a PC. It's literally just a weaker PC pretty much.
Plus Xbox hueg generally had the best versions of multiplat games if they didn't also go to PC.

What didn't help it either was that the latest Halo and Gears of War games on 360 were pretty shit, and those exclusives were what tied a LOT of people to the brand, myself and most of my friends included. If Halo 4 was as good as the Bungie games I'd probably have an Xbone right now.

That console came out with some serious problems out the bat. What with using a computer hard drive and building it more like a computer on Microsofts was a really risky move. Of course it came with tons of glitches which were the patched off. To this day Xbox shows that it was really a pioneer and very ambitious console. The quality of the later units really show how good that console was. I don't think it was shit at all considering it had better specs and performance compared to the PS2 and gamecube. Just slightly more expensive.

I don't know a single person who had a PS2. Everyone knew it as the weeb console, all the cool kids and Dreamcast owners had an Xbox and everyone else had a Gamecube, with some people playing FPS or Sim games on PC. The only time people had a PS2 was because of the DVD player.

Also some of those PC games there were actualy ported to PC later, aside from Doom 3 of course, and the Xbox version of a game will always be better than the PS2 version. Like Metal Arms for example, the different between the PS2 and Xbox version is amazing.

The whole modding thing is what made me so attracted to the Xbox.
If it was a locked box like modern consoles or the PS2, i probably wouldn't be too interested in it.
But the fact it could emulate the PS1, N64, almost every SNES and Saturn game. Plus even run linux, was just too much, i had to get one at all costs.
I remember being convinced into buying one because my maths teacher said it was the best console. I had to save money with my sis to buy it (400â¬) but in the end it was worth it.
My only regret was never being able to play Phantom Dust. We only got Phantom Crash. It was ok too

Guys I need help remembering a game I really liked on the Xbox OG, I only ever hired it but never bought it. I think it was set in China or the setting was inspired by China and it was an action/fighting game where you beat up lots of enemies (not dynasty warriors) and some parts of the level had weapons and stuff you could pickup. I remember that it was quite varied in its setting like one level was up on this mountain temple another was along the top of a bridge. I only vaguely remember so I wish I could give a better description. Not Jade Empire either.
