Anons, I need advice. How do I get into drawing?
My passions in life are mathematics, programming, systems administration, and electrical engineering. Generally, life-brained stuff.
Now, I don't really buy into the whole left/right-sided dichotomy. Fuck that shit. Being good at what I do requires creativity, so I already use the right side of my brain a lot. And even if that wasn't the case, I know it's something that could be trained (I've felt my brain explode when I did activities explicitly meant to inhibit the left side and activate the right side).
Can anyone help me think of some ways to garner some passion for drawing and getting into the process and discipline thereof? I know if I don't have passion, it can't be forced, but maybe I've been going about getting into it the wrong way.

Well, I do have reasons I want to draw (expressing myself, paying homage to the pixel art, and maybe drawing cute girls someday). My problem is that I don't enjoy the process itself, so I'm just a dweeb who cares about the end-results and not the work required to get good.
Ugh, it's hard to describe. I think the answer might be that I just need to work on discipline for things that aren't immediately rewarding. I've started hobbies/skills that were initially frustrating and unrewarding at first, but found a way to eventually enjoy doing it despite that. I haven't been able to do that with drawing, though.

Well, maybe just pick up a book and start going through that. Perhaps something with exercises/homework would help, since it gives you a clear objective rather than just "practice this a lot," although at some point you'll have to do just that. Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, Paint.net, and Draw a Box are all resources I know of that include little homework exercises for the person to do.
Drawing is often more science than art, especially if you want to improve your technical skills, so there's a lot you can improve just by learning and applying. Although doodling for fun is important as well, especially if you're feeling bogged down by all the technical practice.
