Everytime i see threads on /v/ about NV i get interested to play it again

I started to play the game and got through until i reached the place where they have the Glowing Ghoul along with some Brotherhood guys. I stopped playing the game because i just coudn't stand the FPS aspect of it, it felt really still and clunky

Is there any mod that fixes this? I only remember getting enviromental mods that made the game look awesome (And Project Nevada)

It seems like a great experience but i wish it played more like HL1 or CS1.6 (Only the FPS aspect of it), or anything more fluid than the shitty FO3 engine

Personally, I've used the instant headshot death mod (has exceptions like pistol shots when wearing helmets and some calibres or other shit) and Project Nevada tweaked to all hell and back to my personal liking of everyone being crippled in a few rifle shots on that limb to give a sort of STALKER feeling to it of intense gunfights.
If you want some added difficulty, which never hurts, I recommend you get the true wasteland economy mod for a fun easy time.

Thanks, i barely use VATS in this game because for some reason (And i don't know if i'm spoiler by FO4 because of what i'm about to say), first of all whenever i get into VATS the game pauses for a second and then it zooms in, that delay is really annoying

Also, i find myself being a better shot out of VATS but i just can't help to think that i'm missing shots because the aiming is still as fuck

Eh, alot of that has to due with the gun skill, there's some spread/accuracy mods, but I just use Jsawyer and level guns if i'm using them.

Hildern (or it may be Julie) literally says the NCR are too scared to fully denounce them entirely because of the backlash it would have within the territories. The Followers are sitting in NCR territory speaking out against their policies and they cannot do fucking jack about it.

>>339537012
They make up the majority of the healers and teachers within the NCR, very supportive roles like that are hard to turn against. The Followers also quite freely admit that they supplied and helped the Khan's before withdrawing all their aid when it went sour.

As maligned as Fallout 4 is, I do appreciate how the Vaults are less "dude sci-fi so whacky lmao" and more focused on these actually interesting questions. Like Vault 118 where it would've had the societal class dynamic that I'm pretty sure I read on /v/ once.

I'm surprised there's that rigid a structure in place that the Legion would keep it's ranks filled at hoover dam. Logically they should either need another ultra charismatic or brutal leader (Lanius?) or revert to infighting while dividing up the empire

There is more than what you behold.
That is what we once were told.
But all that's left, is despair,
so how can you see what isn't there?

What once were verdant plains we turned
into cold and frigid earth.
The landscape has been laid to rest
in its nuclear winter dress

Searching all over this frozen soil
for a place where we can live
a place that we may call our own.

Across the barren wastelands,
away from the flame
we'll find our sanctuary,
we will prevail.

Cities of the righteous
and the proud and the just
was turned into ashes
and shattered to dust.

But a kingdom shall rise
where the stars once fell
We'll find a place
to build our castle in hell.

Who were right and who were wrong,
was decided by the strong.
Correct the faults, indoctrinate,
when it failed, eradicate.

Then the vaults got filled with crowds
as nations traded mushroom clouds.
We are not the ones to blame,
but we're bearing the burden as we're...

Searching all over this frozen soil
for a place where we can live
a place that we may call our own.

Across the barren wastelands,
away from the flame
we'll find our sanctuary,
we will prevail.

Cities of the righteous
and the proud and the just
was turned into ashes
and shattered to dust.

But a kingdom shall rise
where the stars once fell
We'll find a place

That's true, but east of the Colorado it's probably for the best that Caesar's Legion exists since it created order out of an even more brutal mess.

If it was portrayed that Caesar either had to keep expanding to maintain this order then it would be a little more even handed. Like it was just due to a force of social development that the invasion is inevitable.

Plenty of shit entered the ecosystems of the US that around cats' weight class, thus kind of fucking them over. Dogs live and hunt in packs, giving them a better chance against the post-nuclear bullshit.

Family cats already get picked off by hawks and shit, imagine being a cat with Cazadores around. Cats are already too curious for their own good; one swipe at a cazador, one attempt at picking off a baby Mole Rat (alerting the goddamned nest), and the kitty is dead.

It also could have been disease, radiation poisoning (cats already get leukemia pretty often), among other things.

Also, dogs would have been better preserved by people than cats. Cats were domesticated by hanging around humans, picking off rodents, and purring. Dogs are of direct utility as guards, bird dogs, scent dogs, and even livestock in the event of a survival catastrophe.

NCR is the most bland of the three big ones, really can't understand why they went with the faction that needs the least content to be properly understood.
>>
>>339551412
Our most important cultural developments did not stem from tribes clashing with one another, but with organized states going to war. Caesar knew other, national cultures existed, and he rejected them. He saw the tribals and their conquest as a chance to build what he considered a "better" culture, and he took it. He intends to refine that culture through war.
>>
>>339552449
The issue was that the extra Legion content required them to make a new area and new towns east of the Colorado

The NCR got the lions share of the quests because NCR's questgivers were situated entirely within the confines of the map they had built

Here's the thing: The great nation state that Caesar wants to build? The culture that will not only survive the wasteland, but thrive in it? It's not the Legion.

He has spent decades absorbing tribes, eradicating cultures, enslaving and killing people to create one half of what he considers to be the ideal wasteland nation. The other half is NCR.

Until he conquers NCR, and it's incredibly unlikely he will, all he's done is create one large raider tribe that follows his cult of personality, not his ideology or philosophy, one that wont long survive his death.

The natural evolution of a wasteland society out of a bunch of backward tribals would take longer but be so much better for everyone in the grand scheme of things.
>>
>>339553737
well, it's also the case that while the other factions are fairly monolithic - house is house and the legion is an extension of caesar, the NCR is a fractured and messy bureaucracy, made of many sub-factions, all with their own issues and conflicts
>>
>>339554016

>>339554094
well yeah, he's using the legion as a foundation for the new society, and to take things to the next level, he needs the mojave

I wouldn't say it's incredibly unlikely, either, he's got spies, a solid military, and understands the weaknesses of the NCR. He's certainly still at a disadvantage, compared to them, but I don't think a victory for him is implausible.

for what it's worth, the natural evolution you're talking about would basically lead to something like the NCR anyway

Gameworld =/= Setting. As a RPG with branching paths and what not, underdeveloping one of the major factions is a major flaw.

The world map of New Vegas is a shrinked version of the geographic areal present in the lore in which locations are picked based on relevance to plot and gameplay.

You can make an equal number of faction specific locations and show the primacy of the NCR through other means(IG politics, more NCR than Legion patrols, dialogue etc). "Show, don't tell" only applies if you use characters as information dumps instead of their natural interactions shaping the lore, such as in the case of that merchant in Legion territory.

There is no guarantee those tribes would've evolved naturally, or in the way that Caesar wanted them to, before the NCR swept in and annexed/assimilated him. They are not evolving in a vacuum. It's not "incredibly unlikely" at all that Caesar won't conquer the NCR if you run a successful Legion playthrough. He desires New Vegas because it provides an iconic city and the makings of a less militaristic culture to build an empire off of.

It's very unlikely. Do you know why NCR is in a position to lose the Second Battle of Hoover Dam despite having the numbers and elites to effectively march across the Colorado and take the fight to Caesar?

Because the NCR's army is run by an idiot. A man who deliberately sets things up so he can play gloryhound and beat the Legion assault in a meatgrinder, his troopers versus the Legion's best. Because he's a traditional soldier and offended that elite Rangers got all the credit for winning the First Battle of Hoover Dam. A man so incompetent he can't even defend the Dam properly in the final battle.

Whatever the Legion makes up for in Frumentarii and sheer brutality, they lose out by being tactically inflexible and far too reliant on their chain of command to keep a battle going. In a proper war fought by competent people it wouldn't even be a fair fight.

That's not how developers prioritize things. The content that most will experience will receive the most polish and focus. More players will be drawn to the NCR than they will the Legion. Thus, the NCR has more content. There are still Legion options for almost every NCR-related quest, however. Helios One, Forlorn Hope, Camp McCarran, the Strip, etc. all receive Legion content. The Legion just has fewer civilian locations because there's no reason for them to establish towns in what is, for them, a hotly contested warzone.

Which is fine, because they needed to be controlled. Even if Caesar dies and the Legion evaporates the wasteland is still a better place by assimilation of the cancerous and arbitrarily divided tribes.

The NCR is doing the wasteland a disservice by allowing the Great Khans to exist, their proud 'culture' is literally that of bandits that rape and pillage and then pull out 'muh bitter springs' when they get a taste of their own medicine
>>
>>339556182
Legion culture is objectively shit for everyone who is actually part of the Legion.

Sure, the common man left behind after the Legion has come through and taken its tithe of human bodies is pretty well off but for the men and women that comprise the Legion itself? Not so comfortable. The men are expendable cannon fodder, the women breeding machines and menial labourers.

And if the Legion wins the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, the NCR won't have any of that. Their military would have been broken, their presidents and generals disgraced, their economy tanked, and their will broken. The NCR itself might fracture, which would do nothing but benefit Caesar when he presents himself as a beacon of order, stability, and spartan equality. He gets his civilization all the same.

is that any different to life in a tribe?

I'd argue that it's still better, the men have respect, a shared identity, and a cause to believe in, while the women are still far less likely to be raped, captured or killed than they would be in a tribe
>>
>>339556559
When the Legion fractures, it's going to leave behind nothing but well trained raiders and slavers

So instead of a bunch of tribals who squabble and play at war there will be a bunch of tribals crucifying each other and burning down towns until nothing of Arizona is worth living in

Have you seen Utah? Tribal territory is not worth living in. All Caesar has done to Arizona is dissolve all the pointless "cultural" barriers, if anything a post-Legion wasteland is bound to be more peaceful based on the reduced language barriers alone.

Mate, it's not a matter of the number of locations that I have a problem with, but with the lack of the proper fleshing out of the nature of Caesar's Legion. Sawyer himself admitted that the finished product portrayed them not only in a very simplistic manner, but also contradicted the lore by implication.
>>339556573
Certainly superior to tribal culture. Would you prefer to be part of a community of fiends over being part of the Legion?
>The men are expendable cannon fodder, the women breeding machines and menial labourers.
I could make a cynical caricature of NCR or Strip culture just as easily. What you don't understand is that culture does not have inherent worth, each society evolves its own culture as a way to subconsciously justify and perpetuate the system.
>>
>>339556772
NCR has a larger, better army than the Legion does. A large portion of it is still stationed in California, holding the borders and keeping the peace. Most of the Legion is sitting across the river waiting to invade.

When NCR retreats, it shortens its supply lines and removes the blood sucking leech that was the Mojave from its economy. The opposite is true for the Legion. What they lose in supplies and manpower is made up for by returning to the borders they can already protect.

>NCR has a better army than the Legion does.
No, they don't. Their army receives poorer training, has worse morale, and is, in general, not nearly as effective as the Legion. Everyone in the game says this, on both sides of the aisle. The NCR proper is far more susceptible to war-weariness than the Legion and, in the event of a Legion victory, the Rangers have been marginalized and trust in leaders, civil and military, has been shattered.

The NCR was already grappling with a stagnant economy prior to arriving in the Mojave. Their current population is unsustainable, and their government has become increasingly rife with corruption. There is growing tension between the ruling elite and the lower classes. Total defeat in the Mojave would only serve to exacerbate many of these issues as refugees pour into the nation and whatever economic prospects they had established in Vegas collapse.
>>
>>339557992

Hanlon makes several mentions to the NCR Senate keeping funds and support tied up in California. The Senate is partly run by the Brahmin Barons, who refuse to have their ranches go undefended to supply troops for the Mojave. He directly mentions that the Heavy Troopers, the best of the mainline army, are stuck doing just that, standing around keeping petty thieves away from cows.

>We're stretched thin and the Long 15 just keeps getting longer. Slow to get supplies. Slower to get reinforcements.

the most fetch questy DLC is Honest Hearts, which gets shit on for exactly that on here for the most part. All the DLCs are well written with the arguable exception of Lonesome Road, which is still passable, but just gets too far up its own asshole.

OWB and HH are not linear. DM is somewhat linear but more in the sense that the worldspace is confined, and they did that delibrately with a purpose to create and atmosphere of claustrophobia, so yes, it's okay because it works.

Similarly, LR is linear because the narrative is that of you going down your final road to your final enemy at the end of everything before the battle that decides your entire game, and the road is meant to test your skills you've built up the entire game. So it's passable here too.

They aren't linear because "LOL obsidian is shit at worldbuilding they can only make linear garbage!" They're linear for a purpose, and they serve that purpose.

None of that makes the problem go away, everyone is still eternally acting like the world is about to end and there's no way to make it stop other than to start a new character.

It doesn't have to be a "whacky themepark" to be a functional game, at the very least all they had to do was place you outside of hoover dam after the end and set everything back to normal like the end didn't even happen, there are plenty of games that let you do this.
But no, this is an Obsidian game, the player comes second to their laziness.

The Kings were one of the tribes that lived in and around the Strip when House showed up and bullied everyone who wasn't the Three Families into leaving

Pacer just sees NCR and its squatters as a different kind of Strip situation. People moving in, coming to take land that doesn't belong to them. Only difference is, the Kings can fight back against NCR in a way they couldn't with the Secruitrons.

They could even even do that shit right, the courier does barely anything at hoover dam, in fact one of the most important people there you can literally just tell them to leave and they do it, so why tell the player to go fuck themselves other than laziness?
It is NOT a functional game, it is a VERY incomplete game, and this is one of the many cases where Obsidian has absolutely no excuse for being lazy.

First you're angry that you can't play past the final battle, and now you're saying it's dumb to say it doesn't make sense to progress past the final culminating battle of the game because you can just not do the final battle in game. No shit you can just ignore the final battle in game--you could go around doing all the sidequests and let your character idle for ingame days at a time--but don't expect to finish the game if you don't do the final mission. If you want to finish the game, you do need to do the mission that finishes the game.

something to consider is the NCR military being spread across the entire state, if the legion wins hoover dam and stays as a single large army the NCR would have to pull all its forces back to fight it. The legion could then avoid another large scale conflict and just raid the undefended NCR lands instead.

The internal politics and manipulation by frumentarii would then finish the NCR. Brahmin Barons would likely supply the legion rather than have their lands razed and all their influance destroyed, and the hungy populace would rather side with the legion than be forced into conscription to fight against it

Silly. I disagree. Characters like Caesar and House or even Gannon/Cassidy as well as the general political situation in the Mojave were really well done and clearly had effort put into them. I would say the mere fact that the game which is nearly 6 years old now still gets discussion threads on /v/ proves its impact as far as writing goes.
>>
>>339576267
IF Caesar was intended to be a delusional and short-sighted fool he was brilliantly written. If he was means to be an effectual leader his writing is clown shoes.

>>
>>339576267

The leigon was the low point of the writing

Ceasar was decent enough, but the leigon itself doesn't reflect his ideals.

If they'd have gotten more time to work on the game it would've been stellar. Even in one year they made a better game than Bethesda did in 5. (Fo4)
>>
>>339576147
Then what do you consider "great"?
>>
>>339576462
You're correct, I should say that the concept of Caesar was really interesting but due to Obsidian's time constraints with the Legion he really fell short of his potential. Still, he was a better character than could be found in 95% of FO3/FO4

I'm not sure that the Legion were intended to be more detailed - to me it really seems your choices were going to be NCR or House, maybe Indy, and they realized pretty late in the game that they needed a vastly different option.

There's just far too much "HURRDURR WE'RE EVIL SLAVER RAPIST COSPLAYERS" compared to the amount of positive stuff shown/told about the Legion territories.

>>339577136
Nope, they fully intended on expanding them. Legion territories were meant to be the safest and most secure in the game as they knew how to keep their actual territories strong and safe and could consolidate their power, in contrast to the NCR who were bloated and failed to protect their territories. You have to remember the game was on an 18 month dev cycle, they had very little time to get everything in and it's surprising how much they did manage to fit.

>Even in one year they made a better game than Bethesda did in 5. (Fo4)
To be fair, most of the assets were already made for them.
>>
>>339578589
yes, it's pretty hard to make a game without assets
shame bethesda can't do both
>>
>>339578589
This.

Asset creation on a small scale like I do is a fucking bitch and time consuming, the amount of man hours saved simply by having Fallout 3's resources given to them would have been massive.

Before anyone asks I make the fancy 3d graphics that wow your normie colleagues, friends and parents in shitty phone/browser games.

>shame bethesda can't do both
They absolutely could, but they'd be on a far longer dev cycle and that would mean less profits for their Jewish overlords ZeniMax.

>Caesar has 6 STR, 6 PER, 3 EN, 10 CHA, 7 INT, 3 AG, 3 LUK

Is this accurate?

I would put House at 10 INT desu, as that is how he is portrayed and what he's meant to come across as.

I didn't quite want to put him as "Omniscient" though. I mean, he's very smart, and benefits from 140 years' worth of solitary thinking time, but he doesn't know everything about everything- spending most of his life shut up in a chamber probably didn't expand, for example, his medical knowledge, repair knowledge, or knowledge of small arms.
>>
>>339579594
Nigga thats like saying you don't want to give a guy 10 STR because he's not actually a demigod related to a mythical figure or 10 AGI because he can't actually walk on water
>>
>>339579594
I mean the courier can be 10 INT and still not "omniscient". I would just say 10 INT means total genius tier which is what House is IMO
>>
>>339579750
You get my point though, right? His expertise is limited to a specific set of fields (space travel, robotics, business and maybe a little medicine) based upon his close correlation to IRL Howard Hughes. He wouldn't have the time in his life to gain the wider expertise/intelligence that a 10 INT Courier possesses.

You're sort of convincing me though, so guess I might as well go with 10 INT, but then people will accuse me of falling for memes and handing out 10s willy nilly. Oh well.

He built RobCo from the ground up, a company that sold robots to the US Government. He would've had a working knowledge of ballistics, metallurgy, energy weapon design and artificial intelligence on top of his expertise in business and general robotics/programming.

That he seems to have computed all his predictions by himself suggests he has a solid grasp of advanced mathematics. He was undoubtedly involved in the creation of his hibernation chamber since he was going to be its sole occupant for god knows how many years, which would require some understanding of the technology and biology involved, lest he ever find himself up shit creek without a medical database to bail him out.

And he has a thing for predicting the futures of other people which probably means he was Pre-War America's greatest sociologist and a dab had at psychology

In-universe Luck is defined as the ability to notice patterns (e.g. house's rainman prediction shit). He's probably also got a pretty high INT, but most of what you see from him is technically luck

Shooting down helicopters is fucking hard without all the modern stuff designed to defeat them, and they can shoot back at you from a very long way away. And given that the Vertibird was a cutting-edge prototype before the War, good luck finding anything that can shoot one down at combat ranges.
