Even if it turns out no skin off my back. So far I'm deeply impressed with the music and art, I'm skeptical on the combat as not too much has been shown. I feel that at its best it will a fan game to go down in history, at it worst it'll be a forgettable but overall harmless little game.

Star wars had awesome fan tributes back in the 80's The sand trooper chronicles, The ewok movie, space balls etc.

I kinda check their website every month or two to see if they're still alive. They seem to go through music people a lot if you've noticed. Snobodies, Shane Mesa, like 3 other people I forgot the names of.
I'm not particularly bothered by the game's name because I'm not autistic. Itoi is done and does not give a shit so it can be called whatever.
The game will come out and probably have a good look and sound, but be a mess of a game. Like it'll probably have a lame story, bad writing, grammatical/spelling errors that survive multiple editing cleanups, poorly balanced gameplay (too easy or too hard or just broken in general), etc.
So in otherwords it'll be entirely typical one way or another. It'll either be the typical fangame that implodes before release due to drama (I guarantee there is some A+ tier autism drama that will come out after the face) or releases and gets a month or two in the eye of the internet before being largely forgotten.
It's not really worth getting worked up about. Just check in on it every few months if you're ambivalent or hate it. If you're the latter, hope it implodes and that it's funny. Getting weewee'd up about it is embarrassing.

One, the laws on trademark infringement in the U.S. have a pretty simple test. If a person could reasonably purchase a product believing it is the work of another company, it is trademark infringement. Mother 4 would easily fail this test even if the references were changed because they've been calling the game Mother 4 for the better part of a decade.
