why aren't you buying the best MMO ever made? It's currently on sale you know
>>
Because the level cap increase over 75 killed the game.
>>
Because it's shit.
>>
Because I'm waiting for Dragon Quest X even though it's never coming.
>>
>>339410772
Because I played this years ago and I'm done with MMOs.
>>
One it's in maintenance mode now
Two there are private servers for it now as well
>>
>>339411267
yeah but the private servers are dead and are at the 75 cap of content which only means you can't actually level up because there are only 30 people playing on them and the rates aren't high enough to just let you level to cap in the first few zones, so kind of pointless, no?
>>
I was so close to Maat's cap, maybe I'll come back and try and get it.
>>
>shit the best log I ever put out
>flush it like the rest
should I have played with it?
>>
>>339411657
>he doesn't play with his shit logs
the fuck?
>>
>>339410861
Damn straight.

Besides I'm totally done with the game and stopped having time to play after going into higher education then working, not everyone can spend hours farming and partying etc.

However I'm pretty pleased to have maxed out a few "Gimp" classes and wrecked shit with them. Dragoon and Puppetmaster; provided you aren't a dumb dumb they aren't gimp, people just suck at playing them.
>>
Played it when it first came out. Got bored because even little dinky monsters needed a team.

Not that I mind group content but I'd like a little more substance than 'kill this monster for the next 3 levels'.
>>
>>339410772
Miss the game everyday, wish it was still like what it was 10 years ago. Some of my fondest memories are actually from playing that game with people I got to know well, the trying 'raid' areas like sky and sea, and the sometimes 10 hour long exp parties. Even that first run from the early areas to Jeuno were fun in their own way. Sad that it will never be like that again, nor will any game capture the same charm.
>>
>>339410772
Dead game is dead. Everyone will be playing the mobile version though.
>>
>>339413202

>10 hour long exp parties

Well, that sounds nightmarish.
>>
>>339410772
>playing a game the developers intentionally killed by throwing in all their crazy ideas before the next iteration came out
>They actually thought FFXIV would be quality

I am still mad. FFXI has been dead for years.
>>
>tfw no more good mmo to sink time in and make friends in

FF14 was a mistake and there is nothing else to play
>>
>>339413442

FFXIV broke my heart. Spent 7ish years playing FFXI and it was a magical experience, then SE kills it off with unwarranted changes and releases a barely functioning trash heap and tries to force everyone to switch.
>>
I miss when this game was good.
>>
>>339413348
Wasn't mandatory, but sometimes you'd get a really good group of japs or europeans and be getting a level every half hour or so which is good by FFXI terms, and consistently executing the team chain attacks and sneak attack combinations was satisfying.
>>
>>339412779
Samurai, Ranger or Dark Knight and Black Mage always outdid them and they were easier to play.
>>
>>339413348
It is and it was. I played during 05-07 and I'm telling you the game is slow as fuck and if you didn't have friends or tried making friends and failed at it, you were uninstalling the next day. The game was fun and has some highlights. but the cons definitely outweigh the pros. Everyone bought gil to survive as well, the RMT was absolutely out of fucking control and botting was second nature. I would never go back to it. gamers today most definitely couldn't handle the steep learning curve and having no social life and job was a requirement.
>>
All they had to do was give it a fresh coat of paint and it would have been fine. But no. We got FFXIV.
>>
>>339413891
Samurai was boss. I used to play as sam/rng with that mad hit katana from that floating island place and usually outperformed every hagun user in whatever that raid thing was that you get to from the boat from whitegate.

If you've never played and you're looking for an excuse to try it out, do it for the games storyline's
Even if you're doing them solo, they still feel like one hell of an adventure
Also play on Asura, it's the most populated server
>>
>>339414196
I've played FFXI, WoW and FFXIV to a high level in both pve and pvp and can say without a doubt that FFXIV was the least entertaining and most forgettable of the three. I don't really miss anything about it except some of the locations.
>>
>>339414196
You're actually retarded if you legitimately believe XIV is a better game than XI.

XIV is a shitty mish-mash of MMO ideas and in the end its just a shitty theme park where you do nothing but farm tomes and filler gear on an endless escalator going backwards.

FFXI was the only MMO that designed nearly every aspect of the game around cooperation and mandatory party play.
It was near impossible NOT to form relationships with other players, thereby creating an environment in which even the most mundane tasks felt significant and the difficult ones felt monumental. Field enemies your level were not only capable of wrecking your shit in 6 hits, they would actively gang up on you unless you were aware of your surroundings at all times. This demanded the player's engagement. Combine that with content like CoP missions that punished shitters by gating half the game from them, and you got a magnificent world.
>>
>>339414047

>tfw bought 1 mil gil
>Invested it in buying and selling rare items
>The great inflation happened
>Sold all my shit at 5-10x the price
>Began buying back items I once sold to people and then reselling them at insane prices
>Regularly sold Enhancing Swords for 30-40 mil

At the end of it all I had somewhere north of 270 million gil in cash alone, I didn't blow it on random shit afterwards and was set for the rest of the time I played. I sold it all back to the RMT when I quit and got a pretty penny for it.
>>
>>339415360
It's not that people don't enjoy old school MMOs. The problem is that modern ones tend to try making a lot of money by catering to the widest demographic possible. It's a problem that plagues video games in general, though. They have forgotten that having a niche audience that will keep on playing for months or years and buying expansion packs will benefit them more in the long term than trying to grab as many subs for one month of content before they resub in a year or so for one more month.
>>
>>339413295

>>
>>339415337
Hagun was 2 mill on mine, haubergeon was 5 mil originally but went down to about 600k in wings of goddess. peacock was never below 10 mil, kraken club was about 60 mil.

I used to make money camping and selling that Ochiudo's Kote/leaping boots/emperor charm, but then someone in my ls crafted some xbow of a particular quality and sold it to a jap for like 200 mil and split it between the core members of the ls so I never had to farm again

Instead of making a solid single player version of the game we're going to get an outsourced mobile cash shop version of it. when i heard about the free month i tried to get it working on my account but apparantly i missed my opportunity. when i try to migrate my POL account to an SE account it wants to bill me, so i decided against it.

plus my level 60 bard wasnt on the list of characters to transfer which really bummed me out.

i played from the day of the NA release for years. so many great memories. i got to rank 6 but i never did any of the expansion stories or anything and i feel bad for that now.

REALLY tempted to just pay for it and start a new character, just to explore the zones is almost worth it alone.

i just dont know ;_;

>>
>>339416451
The punishment for dying is still there, but you get like triple the XP now, so it's not as big of a deal. Also, it's a lot easier even getting that XP now, too, so it doesn't take an hour or so to get into a party to spend another half hour-hour getting a level.

>>339417149
RDM is definitely not a shitty class, but I don't know if I'd recommend using a magic class as a starter only because you go through levels so easily now that you'll be running around without a lot of your spells that you should have. It's also expensive buying all of those spells for those are difficult to get from quests and difficult/rare monsters, or even from shops. Warrior and Thief are both really good classes if you want to switch. Also, you should look up all of the new repeatable quests you can do (they're called like PoSomething).

All depends on your reason for starting to play
If you were looking to experience XI, you missed the bus a long time ago
If you wanna do the storylines n' shit, that stuff starts at level 30
Also RDM has some pretty great spells that it gets later on, but it's not a very wanted job from what I've seen in a lot of endgame content, if that's what you're looking for

You really don't think people will play a F2P game with the words "final fantasy" in it's title? Did you forget how big the mobile market is? Veteran player or not. The game will be so dumbed down for mobile "gamers" that any kid playing will be good at it. In fact the battle system is even re-worked so players can solo half the game themselves. These things have already been revealed.

You can already see how much current day players hate FFXI despite never having played it, if it's not related to FFXIV they aren't going to care. Any veterans aren't going to touch a bastardized mobile version of XI so it's really not going to amount to anything.

The general public already has mobile games they are addicted to so a very niche "Nexon Fantasy" game isn't going to draw people in.
>>
>>339419316

WoTG had objectively better new classes than ToAU. And campaign was way better than besieged. ToAU classes were definitely good though.

Are you me?

Aside from the selling the money back to RMT, anyway.

I took my absurd profits from the great Christmas inflation, compounded it by selling gold coins from Aht'Urgan right after it came out (I was one of the people that actually pioneered new exp spots out there- holding Bard at level 50 or so really paid off). Once Bard started getting hard to find groups for out there (high 60s) I flipped over to Ranger and took groups of Rangers and Thieves out to shoot birds.

I could make several gold coins an hour exping out there, put them on the AH for several million gold each, and then be right back at it without the group even breaking. Everyone in my first couple of groups out there got fucking richer than hell.

Then I want balls deep on a Sha'ir Manteel and a few other twinkie items, and all those hundreds of millions of gil were gone.

I was tempted to blow it all on a relic weapon but i mostly played RDM and I couldn't justify spending 100-150 mil buying something like an Apocalypse for a job I rarely used. I ended up quitting halfway through WoTG and just sold it all, never went crazy buying any neat items or anything with it.

Part of me wishes I had stayed and played longer, maybe bought a relic, but the anguish of seeing them ruin the game before my very eyes would have been too much.

No idea, I wasn't there for that. All my friends drifted away in late ToAU, and I couldn't really find a new group for WotG. At that point, I knew most of the server and they knew me, so it's not like I couldn't have found a new group, just that none of the people left were people I really wanted to play with.

All the old guard from BastokGuardians, Befrog, and were gone, and the remainder in Spoondaggers were all kinda dicks. I wasn't even BF or SD, just knew some of the cooler folks in them. But all my social linkshells (NoSpillz and a bunch of others whose names I currently forget) crumbled away and most of the people left got pretty unfun to be around.

I miss this game and the people so damn much.

People talk about game addictions, but I think this was far worse for me. This game was my life.

Played two years and a half from release day, understood that this was going to kill my studies, so I stopped for two and a half years to get my doctorate. Got a job. Then came back and played non-stop until Abyssea became the final nail in the coffin for me.

I have a well paying job, but I don't care one bit about it. There's nothing that fills that void in my life of doing something I *truly* enjoy with like-minded people that are as dedicated as I am. And I know the state of game-making - not just the market but the actual craft and the playing too since we have to account for playing communities - has changed so much that no one will ever make a game that fills that particular niche for me ever again.

I guess this as close as I'll ever get to the nostalgia of those people that went in the military and loved it. And god does it hurt.

Being PUP/SCH main healer for the Alexander fight is still one of my favorite gaming achievement.

And then there was the silly builds too. Like PUP/DRK with a healbot for campaign battles. Or being able to solo Diabolo before they nerfed that.

Don't you dare try to trick me, OP. I gave this shit a try on a private server that emulated the so-called "golden age."

Good god, you spend most of the game whacking at something with auto-attacks, only to build up enough tp for one skill, use it all up, and repeat the process over again.

The gameplay has no inherent value. Nostalgiafags parade it around cause it was only good "with friends" which can apply to any shitty game.

If that was the good time, then I don't even want to know what this modern dead version is.

i was in high school when the game released, and since i naturally didnt do much else but videogames i wasted so much time playing it.

not really a hardcore thing to say, but this is the only game where i have legitimately done a 10 hour straight session when I got into a JP exp pt and stayed there the entire day while people rotated in and out. started in the morning and before i knew it the day was over and i realized i was hungry.

i fucking loved being a bard. once i switched from war to brd i was able to see and do so much more in the game than before. i found statics for bcnm and exp, i would get pt invites when loading the game before the black screen went away. a lot of people said brd was boring as fuck and shitty but i loved it, always moving back and forth and keeping songs on both melee and ranged, debuffs, i would be the puller and keep the chains going.

it really is amazing how this is one of the few games where the people who enjoyed it have such fond memories of it.

I'm aware that an MMO is meant to be played with others, otherwise I might as well play single-player. However, there should be SOMETHING a solo player can do and enjoy at the very least. I would party if I could, but seeing as this was a private server with a small population, that was out of the question, and I was told I should be able to grind this shit out until lvl 10, and by 6 I was just not having it. After grinding out a bit of gil and buying new gear, I expected a significant difference in leveling speed, there wasn't.

>doing what other people want all the time

I played RDM as my first job and it was one of two jobs I took to 75. RDM could do anything, at least pre-2009, I don't know what happened after that. I'd solo tons of stuff not even as RDM/NIN but as RDM/WHM. I soloed Miser Murphy and Guardian Statue for my own Warlock's Chapeau, and it was badass. And I liked helping people, so I didn't mind casting Refresh and debuffs were ungodly powerful in FFXI. You could get away with a lot of shit if you were a RDM anyway because people needed you. They'll yell at you for hitting the crabs in Boyahda Tree but what are they gonna do? You're the only RDM around for miles. Besides people always respected the power of Chainspell and Convert. Everyone's dead? Chainspell Raise everyone, sacrificing yourself, and they might be able to give it another go without taking 30 mins to return from their HPs. Or everyone wipes except you and you clutch out the battle at the last second with a flurry of Chainspelled black magics, perpetually keeping up that Stoneskin to stay alive. I pulled my party through horribly bad situations with Chainspell. Besides you'd find people who didn't mind if you melee'd anyway so you could pull out your dagger and go for those Eviscerations or Savage Blades with your sword. Fuck sometimes in Assaults and Beseiged and stuff from the later expansions, those RDM melee attacks helped a ton. Life was good as a RDM, every day. I was always broke in the old bank but I was never poor as a RDM.

And endgame LSs were pretty lame in general for every job so who cares about that. Yeah let's stand in this same spot for up to 3 hours and hope that we get the pull against the botters for Nidhogg, and then hope we get some good drops if we actually get it.
>>
>>339425197
>It was intentional. The game forces you to party and meet people.

It was the last MMO where the second M was really not optional. The game had a built in shitter filter that did a far better job than any modern MMO, which instead aim for the lowest common denominator.

People who were not socially well adjusted crashed and burned hard, which led to a mostly well adjusted community of players who were actually reasonably sane people. There were still shitters, to be sure, who got by because they had friends who were not, but even they were far better at the game than the horror show that is WoW or FFXIV pubbies.

I don't know that really agree. And even then, there was still crafting, and if you're like me and don't mind the deaths, exploration and mapping. I wasn't level 10 when I first reached Jeuno.

>>339425138

In its time, in the hands of a skilled player, high level RDM was fairly powerful, able to solo NMs - I had a friend who could solo genbu which was no small feat at the time. Early game? I'll grant you, not as effective as most other classes. But as someone that main-ed PUP for the longest time, I'm going to have to say: efficiency of the class is just not that important if you're playing with the right people.

Half of the BCNMs don't work, most of the KSNM don't. There's level-syncing wyverns all over the world with their drops, though. They're called OWNMs.

EXP bands, home point disabled, Books disabled.

All the jobs function with exception to certain merits, PUP's automaton AI, and the math behind some BLU spells.

Chocobo digging and gardening aren't implemented. Gardening's been disabled because of infinite accounts/mules.

Uh, there's a couple of other oddities, but yeah, check out Nasomi. They got a Wiki, forum, and IRC if you need help or more information.

Not him but tons of stuff, you'll never know just how much though because no matter how much everyone asks the server owner will not post a changelog.

I stopped playing when I found out that he disabled exp rings, not because they were out of era but just because he didn't like them. The server is advertised as vanilla\not-custom.

A few things that aren't in because they aren't coded:

Gardening
Chocobo Raising
Salvage
Assaults
A fair amount of BCNM's
Puppetmaster

It's a neat idea but won't be playable for 5 years at least, and I doubt they'll get all the formulas for damage\monster AI right when it is done.

Eh, Dynamis, Sky, Limbus, and all but one a sea Aern work.

While ToAU's jobs are available, PUP is proken while BLU needs some work. ZNMs are there but all the ToAU mobs are set to 99 for the time being.

Only started playing with a static of old friends. We're 56~ish, but they've been distracted by real life and pregnancy. Been crafting and leveling RDM meanwhile. WOuld really love PUP and the ToAu content to be active- it'd be perfect for our group.

FFXI veteran, from 2003-2009.

If you have that itch to go back for [insert random reasons here], don't do it, anons. You just want to see the story again, or you just want to get that feeling, memories, camp an NM you never got the claim on, etc.

It will haunt you. This particular game, and us, it's particular player base from the 'glory days' have a terrible price to pay if you log back in.

You'll be flooded with bittersweet memories of friends long gone and a deafening silence in the ghost towns you once had such grand adventures in.

It's very lonely. You'll feel like that old guy that still hangs out in his old high school, long after everyone has moved on in life and the building is condemned to be demolished.

Farewell, Vana'diel. Thanks for the memories.
>>
I kind of like current FFXI. It's not as good at ToAU~WotG era, but it was pretty fun (stopped in december). Kind of wish there was a maintained offline mode for 99 cap. I'd love to just be able to solo shit on RDM all day since it's quite fun at 119 iLVL.

It's still like that for rare items. Some of the HQs of the 119 abjuration gear go for 100-300m. The prices make sense when you consider how hard it is to synth one. Some of the synths on my server are a 1-3m loss for every NQ, and HQ rates are %1~5.

>>
>>339435467

Monthly fees was a way to maintain the equilibrium - the neutrality of the game-world - while paying servers.

Beats micro-transactions of any form as far as I'm concerned, and all the issues they bring.

The only thing that might be "anti-consumer" in monthly is the amount asked. Not the thing in principle.
>>
>>339435554
>while paying out the ass for loot boxes

Anon, you get them every time you level up, and the only contain skins.

There's no need to *buy* loot crates, are you perhaps confused? Overwatch isn't a pay2win asian MMO
>>
>>339435467

>Year of our Lord 2016
>subscriptions are an anti-consumer practice

Guess you should be disconnecting your Internet and utilities.

A sub fee was a good faith contract- you paid them to keep servers up and stable, and to develop new content, and they provided. If they broke that contract, people stopped subscribing, sub fees dwindled, and the developers had to decide if they wanted to double down and win their customers back, or let the game slip away and try harder on the next one.

Can you really compare the current model favorably against this? Please, indulge me.

>>
>>339438120
>somehow me paying them in advance of getting content ensures they'll create content, this has worked really well for Early Access games

You're a fucking retard for supporting monthly fees. The box cost already covers their expenses, expansion box price covers the dev costs for the expansion.
You paying a monthly fee is just giving them money because you're an idiot willing to waste his money, all while holding the misguided notion that somehow he's HELPING the development of the game when he's actually removing incentive.

>You're a fucking retard for supporting monthly fees.

Lord, you suck your father's cock with that dirty mouth?

So again, because seem to be slow on the uptake:

Employees need to be paid. Servers need to be paid. Benefits have to be made. There's nothing inherently wrong in a monthly payment structure that does all this. The only thing bad - and I'm agreeing on that - is the predatory amount of benefits.

But I'd much rather have something like a subscription that ensures the magic circle isn't broken, and there's no relationship whatsoever between the fortune of people of outside the game and inside. Even if just for cosmetic elements.
That's a preference you may not agree with. Fair enough.
>>
I just unsubbed a couple weeks ago after starting back up in January. I got do some things I never did before, finished up Rhapsodies and other missions and shit.

It just isn't the same. Level up a job to cap for no reason, no one to talk to. It's so bad they added in group emotes for your trusts just to you don't feel so lonely.

Rhapsodies was a great farewell for me. We never got to see the Far East, and I had always wished we would have seen even more of Vana'diel. But everything after the insane content drought of WoTG, it's been dying.

Greatest time I had in my young adulthood.

>>
>>339439094
>I had always wished we would have seen even more of Vana'diel

More than any other MMO world before or since, Vana'diel always amazed me.

I can only hope that one day SE will bring us back there, though hopefully not in an MMO format.

Something open world, maybe a bit sand-boxy, with lots of places to go and things to see, and good depth and lore. A Squeenix Morrowind, if you would. But with more attractive catgirls.

Though this assumes they have the capacity to pull it off.
>>
>>339439094

I know the feeling. I keep wanting to go back to play with the few friends I know that still log in. But seeing the state of the game hurts so much. And there's nothing of it left to enjoy for me.

I would just be there for the pleasure of their company... and by then might just as well create some chatrooom to keep in touch.

Still makes me feel shitty not being there till the end with them though.
>>
>>339439945
The world is just so big and (was) alive. But now even that is reduced to just clicking a home point and teleporting where ever the fuck you want to go.

>>339440174
>And there's nothing of it left to enjoy for me.

That's what I realized recently. After beating Rhapsodies and getting the cheesy yet heartfelt farewell, nothing else was left to do. I kept working on some Relics and Mythics and shit to keep me occupied, but then it dawned on me. What's the point? I don't care about tearing through content anymore, it was about over coming obstacles and seeing rewards with friends.

Finishing my Aegis or Burtgang doesn't mean shit without my peeps to use these toys to protect them with.

Which is a fair point. I like XIV for what it is, ie. Nostalgia-bait, but the multiplayer dynamics are fucking horrible.

If you're not there on day one of a patch you might as well quit playing for the next 3-8 months because item level parity and pre-experience are rigidly enforced by the repellant human beings that populate all endgame activities. You would not believe the bitchiness I received for having the audacity to queue for brain-dead difficulty dungeons with a relatively low iLv, on Ninja (which has the worst AoE DPS, despite the fact i was somehow parsing higher than the other guy).

Because instead of cutting their losses and letting XIV die after the flop of 1.0 they decided to dump even more money into it to fix it, frankly that was probably for the best. Had they "overhauled" XI it likely woulda gone the way of current day WoW, or just become a more polished version of what it currently is.

All in all, it had a good run, if anything, they shouldnt have spent so much manpower on XIV, which was the main reason for the content drought post AU. Christ i hated the WotG period, or atleast the mid point of it.

FFXI was 10 years old. Obviously they were going to make a new MMO.

And much of the FFXI team went to work on Dragon Quest X. Instead of blaming SE for not supporting FFXI for another 10 years, ask why we aren't getting its successor localized.

Because as always Anon, money talks. And in the late 2000s, when mobile and Facebook instant gratification apps started becoming the industry standard, games like this don't appeal to that swing in the market. You're not allowed to have long term goals, nor have weeks or days where you actually don't accomplish anything aside from throwing your bodies at fucking Ultima and fucking Omega.

>>339450887
Yea I know but the young man in me still dreams about what could have been. Not what we got. A lot of people seem to forget that WoTG missions weren't even fucking finished until Abyssea came out, that's how laughable it was.

Which ultimately is a shame because DNC became the best subjob for a lot of situations, campaigns were fun until PLD/DNC starting camping NMs in a corner. The best is when offensive campaigns gave crazy ass XP. Then in typical SE fashion they nerfed it into hell which caused /literally/ no one to do them again. So much wasted potential.

Because it's dead.

Here's to all the memories and people I met on Carbuncle, especially all those amazing Mithra friends.

I think you are why the game died. You specifically.

i know anon, i go up and down that what if road, thankfully less now that i stopped playing for a long while. At the end of the day, it had numerous high points, and many low points, but it never felt like a bad game, and it even got a "conclusion" which i dont think many MMOs get that.

Im still mad it took the game basically beign dead for you to fix puppets though SE, fuck you so much for that
>>
>>339415673
There is no mobile version. There is a new game with the same setting.
>>

You answered your own question within your question.
>>
If I logged back on, what are the chances my character is sitll there from 2009/2010?

Would I be able to finish the storylines?

100%, and yes.
The storylines wont be difficult anymore (current Adoulin might be though?) so while the cutscenes are amazing, they wont be as hard earned.
I tend to skip cutscenes in XIV because they follow the dumbest fetch quest shit, it's hard to keep interest like that.
>>
>>339451627
Yes
Maybe. Level cap is removed on those scenarios, soloing them (because just like in its heyday, nobody wanted to do story quests unless they needed them) it would depend on your class or how high you were.
>>
I've wanted to play this shit since it came out alongside WoW but my brother and I could only afford one account so we both shared one for that. I remember reading gaming magazines about this shit and salivating at the idea of cross-classes and shit.

I played FF14 and that shit was just WoW-lite. Would I have a fun time with XI?
>>
>>339417149

RDM just plays like a melee at low levels. It's really fun when you get haste.
>>
>>339452020
The games much more solo friendly, so if you dont mind not having a bustling community, yes. But FFXI without the community really sucks, atleast for mot of us who played in its heyday, you might enjoy it though.
>>
>>339451627
It's probably still there, but you'll need to jump through a few hoops to get your old account hooked up to a new SE account.
>>
>>339452020
>I've wanted to play this shit since it came out alongside WoW

This game came out years before WoW though

I remember when WoW dropped and a bunch of FFXI subs disappeared
>>
>>339420014

I guess if you didn't solo with RDM you found it boring though keeping a refresh/haste cycle and main healing could keep plenty of people busy.

It was busy as fuck when soloing before Composure.
>>
>>339452020
Depends on what you like and what you're looking for.

It's entirely possible to do just about everything by yourself thanks to the addition of Trusts. But it becomes a question of if you'll get bored doing it all with just you.

I want to experience it again
>>
>>339425347

A big BLM NM orc was inside for a Windurst mission. When I went back, he still kicked my ass with trusts at around level 80. Shit was brutal.

I have explored pretty much everything in XI. One of the best parts was sneak/invisible and the ability to explore everything at low level.
>>
>>339453165
>cast Sneak
>cast Invisible
>the effect of Sneak is about to wear off

If theres 1 song in this game that will make me tear up, its that one. Walking out there to feel that thrill you got fo the 1st time, only to immediately notice theres noone there, at all. same for sandy and 3 nation towns in general but ronfaure still hits the hardest man

>>
>set up Nasomi
>223 people online

>>
>>339454569
Correct, XIV is not the best MMO ever made.
It's probably the best MMO on the market now, but that really isn't saying much.
>>
>>339410772
>Bought this game last week
>Playing with cousins
>Literally press ENTER the game

The cutscenes are fucking gay, and lack of group activity makes the game boring. I never played back in the day like they did, and I wanted to like this game, I just can't stomach how lonely it feels and how long it takes to get through any story aspect of it.
>>
>>339454873
Yeah, you're way too late to enjoy it.
People argue you can go back and enjoy the story, but everything in between is absolute suffering now.
>>
>>339454569
Theme parks have fundamental problems, the constant gear resets and god awful world building being just some of them.

I'll give FFXIV does a lot right compared to other WoW based theme parks, attunements being one of them. When ARR first came out the gates there was hope, everything was done in server, people were creating names for themselves. Being bros and helping out with relics and Titan HM.

However after two or so patches when everything went on the Duty Finder and all that grinding we all did (we were retarded doing so many fucking Amdapor Keeps and Wanderer's Palaces) was wiped out with higher tomes, we all realized it was always going to be something that we didn't want.

Also, Heavensward is a fucking travesty.
>>
>>339410772
Because the game is too old now for me to enjoy it as the game that people said was great. i'm not going to have any of the same level of experiences they will.

I play Final Fantasy XIV anyways for almost two years and have really been enjoying it. it's presentation is amazing and they're really good about putting out content. (except patch 3.1 which they've apologized for themselves)
>>
>>339454873

I went back with a friend and did the expansions in chronological order. He said it was shit until he got to WotG and then liked it. Also, it's pretty boring at low levels so don't expect much.
>>
>>339410772
>why aren't you buying the best MMO ever made?

Because I can't go home again, OP. I can't ever go home.
>>
I really wish XI would go free to play and merge the dead servers together.
Suck up your pride SE, Trust magic is not an acceptable substitute for playing with other people, every server could have 1000+ people on at a time, if there were only 10~ of them.

I really was lagging pretty bad.
>Jerk the phone line out of PS2.
>Wait until next day to log in.
>Enjoy my new high lvl ear rings when I reach high lvl.

It was such a cunt thing to do but, I dont care.

I keep hearig it's either the true sequel to FFXI or its a watered down FFXI, no one can tell me anything actually specific. I can't even find any meaningful English guides beyond how to set up the game and do tutorial quests, so I have ZERO idea how it plays.
>>
>>339457270
Well, it was made by the same team that worked on FFXI, so there's that at least.
>>
Hows the meta in FFXI nowadays anyway?

All I know is that SCH is the new "must have mage".

So did FFXI improve upon the EQ formula, or casualize it?
>>
>>339457454
Pretty broken. NMs are too dangerous for melees so having SCH magic SC and watch BLMs MB shit into smithereens is all it's been.

I guess ambuscade or whatever doesn't need that make up. But the rewards for that are going to dry up in the next month or two I'd wager.

BSTs were fucking great until they nerfed/broke Sic into fucking oblivion. Just as SE ought to do.
>>
I know all games go out of style eventually and FFXI was always more of a niche game, but it pains me every day I see the FFXI fandom is essentially dead and tons of artists are out there drawing FFXIV content now.
>>
>>339457618

It actually used the same formula
>>
>>339457618
It basically used the same formula...sort and polished it...sorta again.

Can SCH outdo WHM in the healing department with their Regens? As far as I can tell WHM is burst heals while SCH gets all the Regen healing.
>>
>>339410772
star wars galaxies was the best mmo every, fuck off theme park shitter
>>
>>339458089
I don't believe so, as WHM gets more options to break the native cure potency cap, so more MP friendly cures can fill in. WHM has pretty much been the only healer since Abyssea when Cure V and VI leapfrogged anything else, and the game started shitting out refresh options.
>>
>>339458312
FFXI isn't even a theme park, fgt.

I never did like ToAU expansion. Releasing a mob that was weak to everything but magic was a stupid idea. An enemy thats weak to piercing with a RDM beast job, one of the lowest defensive rating of any beast job, on a beast that has some of the lowest HP values.

Giving everyone an EXP boost on the new signet. Meanwhile i had to go 55-75 fighting shit that would wipe out the party if someone fucked up. Goblins that would inflict lethal to the party, Orcs that would clump together, spamming high level aoe BLM spells, cats that would paralyze silence forever, shitty plant creatures that would sleep everyone. Yes there was crabs, but they werent as easy as those weak ass birds.

Skeletons with aoe blind life drain, bats with attack down moves, weapons that would aoe like a truck and aggro the magic users if out of position. Literally everything was lethal on the beasts, and they release these bitch ass birds that do what? a shitty peck move, steal food, lose tp? pfft baby shit reeeee

creating ingredient shortages because no one wanted to exp in old zone anymore, no more need to beg the other party in the zone to come raise your ass because RR just wore off.
>>
>>339458869
Exping on IT+ mobs was stupid anyway, even pre-TOAU parties could have had it easier if they had learned to chain T-VT mobs by then
>>
>>339459079
Mob types and respawn timers really hurt doing that though. While Monk burns in King R's Tomb were fun for a bit, you got tired of losing a chain for XYZ reason.
