This part really wasn't that hard. Now, chapter 14, when they start throwing huge groups of enemies with giant HP pools and crazy deadly attacks in extremely tight spaces at you in every single room, that was hard.

Fuck that kid get your own damn fruit, don't go into a dangerous area in the first place if you're not willing to go get it yourself. My PTSD is backtracking several times in a dungeon or a NPC blocking the road with a fetch quest and the MC agrees to it instead of going right past him.
>>338811609
That was also another annoying level. That was the latheon gorge with the wind plants if I remember correctly. I preferred the temples and the areas where you find skull dancer overall. Also Derris Kharlan and Mithos Castle was pretty cool with the BGM and monsters.

This is why JRPGs are shit
Western RPGs would give you the option of just killing the little shit or going around him
Chances are there would be someone in the world who wants you to kill that little shit too, and they'd pay you for it

>>338819049
Graces dungeons are especially strange because there are points in the game where the developers proved that they knew how to make fun and/or killer puzzles. I loved Shot Cube at the Amarcian Enclave and was bummed out when I ran out of stages. That tri-colored light one with the arrows in Sandshroud Ruins was like Hell condensed into a video game puzzle.

Luca Blight's boss battles. When I played Suikoden II for the first time, it made quite the impact on me, even more so because I thought I was going to get a bad end even though I had beaten him twice.
Is the PS3 version of Symphonia any good? I held off on it before hearing how the PC port was shit, and I don't see any substantial fixes being made for it any time soon

Yes but didn't the PC version fuck up literally everything else? How much has been fixed since then? Also, what happened to that proposed 60FPS patch? I've heard nothing from the team since late February
>>338828327
Which is funny because that entire fight can be kinda trivialized if you bought enough Fire Emblems in Matilda.

that's actually an example of a bad puzzle. Puzzles should be about reasoning/logic or memorization of information that the game itself gave you, not shit that you'd have to look up, especially when it's not something well known in our western culture. I don't know the Chinese Zodiac, I've never really been exposed to it. I know they do new years in like February and give each year an animal like year of the dog and shit but that's all I know, because my culture has not exposed me to more of it.
>>338815317
Mah nigga, I liked Symphonia's puzzles, well, with the exception of the tower of lightning, and that was more because I hate falling off ledges, which I never did but I was so scared to that I had to babystep around those rooms, which was annoying.
The real thing that triggered me in Symphonia though, was missing ONE chest in the temple of earth because the Gnomelette destroyed the bridge that led to it. You can never get that chest again once that bridge is destroyed. I missed Sheena's treasure hunter title for that and so it requires me to do another playthrough to try. That and Zelos' gigolo title, have to do another playthrough with an autistic list of NPC's for each town to try for that.

Yes. Most the bugs were fixed by bamco's patches, and the resolution and antialiasing and cell shading were fixed by the ToSfix mod. The only thing missing is 60fps, but otherwise it's the definitive version of the game. I value extra content over just a higher framerate.
>>338837106
>that's actually an example of a bad puzzle. Puzzles should be about reasoning/logic or memorization of information that the game itself gave you, not shit that you'd have to look up, especially when it's not something well known in our western culture. I don't know the Chinese Zodiac, I've never really been exposed to it.
Never touch Secret World, senpai.
All those investigation puzzles are just plain frustrating if you're not going to dedicate hours and hours on research.

Doesn't the PS3 version lock the internal resolution at 720p? The PC version without ToSfix does that, that's one of the things the mod fixes.
The PS3 version also loses some of the cel shaded look that was part of the original charm of the game. The PC version was also missing it, ToSfix adds it back in.

How on Earth is something like this considered difficult or complex? This is what I meant in >>338850005, I just don't understand the metric by which people judge the quality of JRPG dungeons.
There's nothing hard to navigate about this place at all, it's just a bunch of empty rooms and corridors you wander through until you've auto-mapped them all, except a few dark areas and a teleport maze for which you have to draw your own maps using trial and error.
I think there were a few pits, sleep traps and secret doors too, the doors being probably the best feature since you have to actually pay attention to find them, unless you have the patience of a saint.
If you like things like this then that's fine, but I don't see why people act like it's "hardcore" when the average Zelda dungeon demands more thought from the player to complete.
>>338835608

"Thought" isn't just puzzles. In the end a map like Eridanus can be boiled down to "trial and error", sure, but when you actually have to go through it you're managing a bunch of mechanics related to combat, your survival, resource gathering (i.e. money and items) and the state of your party in general. As little sense as it makes when talking about a videogame, it's sort of a more "physical" and technical struggle against the dungeon, which is what people enjoy.

I never felt like my survival was threatened during dungeon exploration in Strange Journey because if an encounter went badly, retreating almost never failed, and my healing resources were almost limitless.
Gathering more resources with which to buff up your party like recruits, sources and forma, and choosing how to spend those resources, is something fun you can do while exploring a dungeon, yeah, but it doesn't really have anything to do with the dungeon's layout or terrain.
Just the random encounters and forma for that dungeon.

The dungeon's layout influences how long it will take you to clear it, which in turn influences for how long or how often all the other mechanics come into play. They're not directly connected but it's very important to the experience as a whole.
Besides, mine was more of a general argument for why people enjoy this kind of dungeons. As as specific games go, the experience is always rather subjective. Maybe you're just good enough with SJ that going through Eridanus didn't amount to much.
>Factories are twice as far from main battleground as Waylons

>there's only one kind of pacing that is good
I believe halting you for a bit with a tough as fuck puzzle right before the boss with the biggest build up was a great way to make it even more satisfying to finally get your revenge.
If you wanna complain that Darksiders fucked up by slowing it down too much before the end then complain about the stupid sword fetch quest right before the last boss, that was just retarded.

As a kid I spent a literal month trying to beat him. Worth it.

The worst part is
>saving on the ship
>not being able to grind because all your healing items expire
I ended up having to dedicate Mizuti to healing.

GOD DAMN I REMEMBER THAT
I don't know why I found it so infuriating as a kid, I recently replayed it and found that funny.

You can punch your way out of the place, as long as you don't stop moving you'll be fine.
Or if you're skilled enough you can use the jetboard to get to the end, only problem is the RNG of bumping into the NPCs and then knocking you into the water.

it's like tf2 for console

Who the fuck spends $9 on a cosmetic item in a single player, narrative driven game with a definitive end point? And the fact that they're even selling it suggests someone bought it
:^)
>>338854885
WA 3 has some hard as fuck puzzles and Rogue Galaxy has the two towers dungeon that you'll get lost in forever.

WA3 is one of the best JRPGs ever imo.
Rogue Galaxy is alright, though. It has JAPANESE BUG FIGHTS, too.

I thought the Fade was the only really interesting part of that game. Everything else was just well-trod fantasy tropes. Dwarves living underground, better have some fights in cave tunnels. Ooh, elves who live in the forest. Neat. I don't understand why anyone would skip through the only worthwhile part of that game.
