HOLY FUCKING SHIT, ANON!

I don't understand how can you hate a game like this.

This fucking fight. This fucking moment. This fucking music. It's one of the best boss fights in vidja. The whole game culminates into this moment, and suddenly becomes GOTY.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tz82xbLvK_k

Yet you decide to bash it not because it's a bad game, but by something outside of it.

>>
>>338799834
Because you don't know who you're polling. The results might vary wildly depending on the time of day you took the poll, because it would be prime internet browsing time for different people. Any number of things skew your data. You just have no idea.

In this case, who's going to be interested enough in Undertale to be in an Undertale thread and see the poll you're taking? Maybe some trolls and people that hate the game, but I bet you'd get around 70% people that like it, because that's who'd want to be in the thread in the first place.

You have to know who you're polling for a poll to be useful data, and /v/ is not an entity well defined enough to get useful polls from.
>>
>>338799732
>>338799748
The entire narrative of Bravely Second is guided by the fact that the player is an acknowledged identity within the game universe whose actions are actually affecting the game's story.

You literally can't reach the 2nd Half of the game without going to the Main Menu and hitting New Game+ after the characters literally go "Someone, anyone who has the power to take us back to the start so we can do it over again! Please help us!"

And then the entire Second Half of the game is literally "Every character pretty much remembers what happened before you hit New Game+ and are thus trying to do things differently"
>>
>>338799945
you say that like it's a bad thing. you say 'this story could not have been written twenty years ago'

Toby is a decent dude but everyone puts him on a pedestal he doesn't need to have.
>>
>>338800138
So what you're saying is, different parts of the world are more likely to like the game than others?

>You have to know who you're polling for a poll to be useful data, and /v/ is not an entity well defined enough to get useful polls from.
Why not? /v/ is /v/. /v/ was polled. Not some country, not some gated community, just /v/.
>>
The game was alright. The goatmom irritated me at the beginning of the game, so I was fine with the premise of killing her to prove myself. Flowey spooked me in the immediate aftermath.

But after that, the premise of the game was quite obvious and it became kinda dull. I knew I wasn't "supposed" to kill anyone, but I decided to kill a couple NPCs throughout my first run just because I was bored of it.

The Pacifist run was so boringly easy, gameplay-wise, but the additional storylines of the lab were spooky and cool.

Final boss was a huge letdown.

The music was good, the dialogue was funny the first time.

strong 6 to a light 7/10
I would recommend it to most people who grew up playing games and would appreciate the change of pace.
>>
>>338800342

Not him, but it sounds like a similar mechanic. But it's hardly the only reason I think UT was refreshing and memorable.
>>
>>338800428
If you've played the game, you'd know that bullet hell is only a portion of the gameplay. You're right though, the enemies that only shoot shit to dodge are easy mode. Sans, for instance, doesn't really use that mechanic that much.
>>
>>338800162
I understand your point, but it's a little bit different.

BS knows there is an entity, the player, who is outside of the game.

Undertale is about the character (the main character) who has the power to travel in time.

And this mechanic is not original, Chrono Trigger did it first. Some ending of CT makes notice of the player, and the fact that New Game+ changes the game (like unlocking new areas).
>>
>>338800549
>You can't make any sort of criticism without them making up some reason or excuse that is supposed to be a rebuttal, rather than trying to just converse.

>>
>>338800406
>This game needed to be a lot fucking harder.
Mostly fucking this.
A fucking bore of a game, most of the time. Nothing in the Pacifist run required more than one death or two, tops, to completely figure out.

Then the Sans fight in Genocide just required memorizing an IWBTG-style boss fight pattern. Which was fun, I'll admit, but it kinda felt like too little too late.

>>338800563
I'm saying you have no idea who you were polling, and /v/ isn't some set group of people. It's the second biggest board on 4chan, and this place gets a lot of traffic.

You're taking a poll of posters in an Undertale thread, a self-selecting group, as representative of a larger body too ill-defined to be a meaningful grouping anyway. It's bad science all around.

I mean, go ahead and keep posting it if it makes you feel good. It just doesn't mean shit other than "most people who post in Undertale threads like Undertale" - and not even definitively that
>>
>>338800452
>>338800406
It's the experience. Yes, you can die, but you recover ASAP, so the momentum or the emotion never fades.

It's not a cutscene, it requires actions to continue each step of the fight. It's like Super-Meatboy.

And Toby delivers with a hard fight with Sans.

Practically every decent turn based RPG has this trope about the final boss being just a show, it's the reward for beating the game, is a sideboss the one who is the most difficult.

I wish Undertale stayed a cult classic because it's so good, but of course the massive following ruined everything. And I mean that literally. The obsessive following spoiled fucking everything way too early, even though it was meant to be a "blind experience" game

>you can die, but you recover ASAP, so the momentum or the emotion never fades
Completely disagree. Once I recovered the first time, the letdown was fucking huge. I could just feel the game holding my hand and walking me through the fucking fight.

>Practically every decent turn based RPG has this trope about the final boss being just a show
And this just isn't true at all. Yeah, many great RPGs have hidden side bosses that will kick your ass, but I can't think of a single RPG that doesn't have a boss that at least rewards all your leveling up and grinding with a genuine challenge.

your problem is that instead of just going "I just don't like the game" you levy criticisms that have no validity and once you're called out you say the people calling you out have the problem

Like say someone doesn't like darksouls, but instead of going "It's not my cup of tea" they go on a long tirade about artificial difficulty, and how the plot sucks, the combat is repetitive and promotes ebil git gud culture and muh lorefags are autistic. The flowey fight is a joke

It's only challenge is in the first 20 seconds and then it's a piss easy insult of a fight.

There's a checkpoint after every kids soul, it's actually sad how easy it is. Your health bar is also like 5 times longer than it looks, because each time you take damage your def goes up. Take two hits and it looks like your at half hp, but your really gotta get hit like 8 more times to die

I thought it was very good, I liked Undertale alot. We've had fucking threads like these for 6 months and it's the same shit. Let the game die in peace Anon, it will be remembered well
>>
It's not a bad game. Most characters are very likable, the music is very good and the story is neat.
however, I don't wanna talk nonstop about it, or give it the praise that many normies are constantly give it. It's okay, but not exactly the best game ever made.

this is also why I am getting really, really fucking sick already about all the Dark Souls 3 threads, that just keeps repeating themselves over and over.
>>
Just finished the game yesterday having gone unspoiled till then. Humour was good for the first 1/3 or half the game or so when it then took a huge nose dive. Gameplay was mediocre at best and I did not enjoy all the meta shit in the end. Flowey's boss fight form felt like a direct rip off of Madoka's style to me. How many other games/series also use that style I don't know but aside from the surprise was uninteresting and did not add much.

>>338802985

If you read my post and got that I was just "complaining about difficulty," then you need to work on reading comprehension.

Easy games can be entertaining if the mechanics are fun. This game was easy but just plainly a bore for ~70% of the playtime, imo. The story was neat, but it really felt like a fucking errand to not kill all those NPCs during Pacifist.

That last sequence blew me away. Especially when you figure that it borrows so heavily in leitmotif from the main menu theme (as well as "Undertale", the acoustic song that plays in New Home).

I still contend that Asriel is the game's protagonist. Frisk just happens to show up in his world.

You know what I hate the most about /v/ discussions on Undertale?

Every-fucking-one pretends that it's a story game only worth it for the story.

As if the gameplay wasn't good as fuck on its own.

I didn't even like the story. But the gameplay that was unique from mob to mob and culminating in bosses kept me tied to the game until the very end(s).

Meanwhile people that never played the game pretend like its a walking simulator without gameplay or anything.
>>
>>338797483
What do they call that when the pitch shifts upwards right like at 1:52 and the actual progression stays the same, but feels more heroic?

I'm a real big fan of that, ESPECIALLY when it connects well with an in-game event. For me as I recall and in a video of the fight I saw later, that part kicked in right after Asriel's Hyper Goner begins sucking you in. The fact that you're resisting the pull of a "god"'s ultimate attack is really nice.

It just all comes together really well. I love it when games do that. It doesn't even have to be the upshift specifically, just fitting sections of a game's music happening right when they hit hardest. MGR:R's Rules of Nature does that, for a good example, because the song plays in such a way that you will ALWAYS clash with the Metal Gear's blade RIGHT when you hear RULES OF NATURE. Same thing with Hopes and Dreams if you can get it right, but the upshift is still a nice touch, even if you don't get it to happen at the most ideal time.
>>
Really liked the music, shame the fight itself is literally unlosable.
