It's still way too hard for supports to get PotG consistently. Blizz needs to weigh support contributions further still. It's no wonder that everyone wants to play the DPS edgemasters like Reaper, Hanzo and Junkrat when they are PotG every other game.
Got a 3 man rez on the payload 20 feet from the objective as Mercy on 66 Attack, followed by a kill, and Hanzo gets PotG for three random kills after we had already cleared the final checkpoint.
God help you if you're playing Lucio, because he is NEVER getting a PotG for anything short of knocking two people off the map.
You're supposed to play it with friends so you can communicate properly and support each others.

Learn how to manage team comps. Don't just main a hero, try to get good at a handful, all good for particular situations, at least 1 tank and support and whatever else you want. If your team is doing something you know is wrong, let them know, try to help them improve. Most people though will just tell you to fuck off though. If that's the case, grief them.

Try to contribute to a balanced team composition.
If you're playing DPS, such as 76 or Reaper, learn the maps and learn how you can flank.
If you're playing a character with high mobility, either through skills like D.va, or just passives like Hanzo or Lucio, learn to utilize that shit.
Don't rush a point by yourself. Maybe try to do some light harassment, but don't try going for serious engages without a team nearby. This can happen a lot if team members don't respawn at times close to each other, so each just rushes in and gets chewed up, leading to nothing getting done.

Hanzo's more versatile than widowmaker. They can use their local radar more often than widowmaker's ult is up, and dragonstrike can clear an objective or payload, if anyone actually stays to die to it that's just a bonus, but most people know how to get out of the way now after open beta so it's not as effective at killing anymore, unless paired with meis' freeze, hammerdown, or the gravity well.

Close range is her weakness since she easily loses to Tracer/Mei/McCree/Tanks/etc. and ties with a few others like Genji and Toblerone.
I do agree it should be a bit more pronounced though, but then we might have to nerf Tracer a bit since Tracer is the number 1 counter to any Widowmaker being impossible to kill.

Him and Mei are pretty much the only characters that can win any 1v1. Throw a flashbang, fan the hammer, roll, fan the hammer. You don't need to aim at any point since your gun will fire in a spread and the flash has a pretty decent AOE. They also have quick cooldowns, and the flashbang can shut down some ultimates like Roadhog's. I don't mean it beats it either, Hog's ult will literally just stop halfway through if you chuck a flashbang at him.

Am I the only one that thinks this game would be significantly better if Hanzo/Widowmaker were just flat-out removed? I can't even count how many times I've gotten into a fun and intense firefight that ended anti-climactically because some sniper five miles away started picking people off, whether they were on my team or not. Widow's ult removes any tension on maps where you're traversing tight quarters like the back part of the Russia map, and Hanzo's ult is easily in the top 3 best of the entire game for some reason while so many other Heros get trash ults like Winston. They're almost useless in Attack modes (but you'll always have at least 1), they're annoying as all fuck in Defense modes, and their ults require no skill or finesse to use.
