Its the dice roll on a single dice required to prevent them dying when they are hurt in the tabletop. Actually guardsmen are skimmed from the best of the PDF, who are trained extensively considering 99% of the time they don't see active duty and have nothing better to do. Of course they still end up coming into the IG green because the PDF is a shitshow, mostly because the PDF is constantly getting the best skimmed off which leaves only the mediocre and worthless, but still. New IG recruits don't just get "3 days of training", they have to have proven themselves to some degree first.

Yep, he was the talk of the town of our local Games Workshop and nearby hobby store and I helped assemble most of his Drop Pods, Dreadnoughts, Bikes and Predators while he did most of the rest.
One of the GeeDubs manager came over and helped him with the Terminators and some of the Rhinos. Every weekend he'd churn out a few tactical marines since he's pretty good with an airbrush.

Most planets remain pretty much untouched by any major conflict though. Some feral orks/local aliens to take care of with the PDF every so often but there are some worlds that are so good they are called paradise worlds for vacationing.

That isn't to say that they won't see raids or combat ever but they don't see it enough to actually be affected majorly. And most other worlds are just agri-worlds with regular old jim and bob farmers who work hard but not to the death. And most of their crop goes to supporting a hive world usually.

Bruh, for every hive world there are a dozen agri-worlds supporting it where its just a bunch of farmers and their families doing regular labor. There are feral worlds which are completely untouched by the rest of the galaxy and only know their primitive life. Their are feudal worlds which serve only to be recruiting ground but are left alone apart from that. There are shrine worlds that exist only to protect relics and promote the church. Death worlds and prison worlds are comparatively rare. And if a world cannot be lived on by humanity, it would not have been colonized millennia ago by humans much smarter than those in the 41st millennium.

Ever since jeedubs stopped using pewter for models there aren't really any hard-to-assemble models. And with a few guidelines itse not too hard to get tabletop quality paint jobs done yourself (unless you're doing something like Dark Eldar or Daemons).
If you want to play I'd recommend waiting until the end of summer. The rumors of a new edition or a more streamlined ruleset will have settled out by then.

There are no reasonable races.
The Imperium are a xenophobic dictatorship ruled by religious dogma who regularly use genocide.
The Eldar see other races as beneath them and the only difference between them and the Dark Eldar is that they don't get wet at the thought of all the humans they butcher.
The Tau are a collectivist dictatorship who believe anyone that's not with the Greater Good needs to be exterminated.
Additionally wiping out races like Orks would probably doom the galaxy. The Orks are probably one of the greatest defenses the galaxy has against Tyranids and vice versa - wipe out either and the other will dominate. Chaos can't really be stopped either because they hide in the Eye of Terror and have no discernible patterns of attack.

But that's not really true. The IG is incredibly diverse. True in major battles they use human waves but that's because there is no other option. There are plenty of times when the IG use modern tactics. Harkoni warhawks using airbourne warfare, tallaran using guerilla tactics, catachan jungle fighters using jungle and ambush warfare.
It's just that when there is a giant wall of orks being thrown at you there isn't much more you can do than smash it with artillery and bombs and throw men at the problem until it stops.

Wrongo buddy. The problem is that in major engagements that's about all you can do but there are plenty of different regiments focused on completely different things. Elysian drop troops are the closest you can get to stormtroopers in training and equipment without actually getting there (if they didn't job everytime), harakoni warhawks are mass airbourne infantry, Attilan Rough Riders are fucking cavalry with space horses and explosive tipped spears. The problem is that all we're ever shown are Cadians who can only know wave tactics because they are constantly fighting all of Chaos.

Most printers now can't get anywhere near the same level of detail as the real thing; they're just not there yet technologically speaking.
I heard they can work for some of the more boxy models, but even those tend to lack detail and are more or less just useful as game pieces rather than actual tabletop models.
You have to remember most players take equal if not more joy in assembling,painting, and collecting models rather than playing the game.

There might be some regiments where they just pick up a bunch of tribals or prisoners, imprint only the most needed Low Gothic knowledge in their brains and train them in basic army stuff on the way to the warzone, that's true. Space Marines are human but they are hardened super soldiers first and foremost. If given a choice of saving random humans and completing a certain mission most Space Marines will choose the latter but will go out of their way to save random humans if possible.
Most Space Marine chapters protect Imperial citizens as they can but the Ultramarines, Imperial Fists, Space Wolves and Salamanders take it to a whole new level exceeding philanthropy.
