From the beginning until that moment, Squall had a no nonsense attitude to her and was overly critical about her actions. I was fine with the progress he was making with her as he became somewhat less of a jerk to her. However, when the coma hits he starts doing a Shakespearian monologue. The second era would be a switch to 3D graphics while still keeping a lot the same. The third era would be a departure from major things that were present in all the games like the overworld map. Except you don't *NEED* to play the Card Game. AFAIK you can get all the items needed to upgrade the Gunblade and other weapons WITHOUT doing the minigame. It only becomes available later, but even then you don't NEED to upgrade your weapons. Using your limits (which ties into magazines and learning Blue Magic for like 4 of the 6 party members) is more effective (especially if you abuse Zell's 2 button combos in quick succession) or just spamming GF's as needed helps.
Hell you can never level up again if you go for Diablos and Enc-None and blow through the game at (relatively) low level and just spam Limits to instantly end the battle because the entire world is around your level. There is NO need to do the Card Game ever if you don't want.

Honestly it wasn't a modern squenix problem. It is a modern gaming problem. Much like other companies, they saw how well mobile devices were doing, and thought a new generation of consoles were going to fall flat on their asses. PS4 pretty much saved us from having to go 100% mobile. FFVIIRe was going to be a mobile game, so they had to reverse some decisions on it since PS4 was a worthy platform. Episodic is just a remnant from when the game was going to be made for the mobile crowd.
I doubt any newer games would be episodic, unless they start predicting the downfall of consoles again. People are hoping for a gaming crash so that PCs can reign supreme, but at this point a gaming crash will just move games over to mobiles thus making gaming complete shit. 8 is my favorite Final Fantasy. The main character, the setting, the music, the story, all good. I loved fiddling around with the game mechanics and using Lion Heart to destroy enemies if I got it. I nearly died on the final stage of the last boss and I had to Lion Heart her like 10 times. I never got to beat the secret boss in the castle unfortunately. But I literally completed the game 99%, I was just missing one of Laguna's things you collect and I was so pissed.

The game gives you all the tools you need to make drawing the -least- required method to get magics. There's a fairly competent crafting sistem full of hidden items. Juctioning is as complicated as any normal equipment system, the only difference is that you have to remember that more magic of a type means that's more powerful. Woah, what a bizarre concept. How HARD to grasp, damn.

Yeah X definitely doesn't have that grand scale that the PS1 games had. I mean shit, towns in VIII are all pretty fucking big and detailed and I've gotten lost in Esthar a few times. Same for Galbadia.
Even Zanarkand was tiny as fuck because they condensed it into just a highway and a few key spots. It should have rivaled Esthar in size. I guess since it was an early PS2 game they just left it as a prologue area.

It doesn't matter the cities in X gave you a sense that you were in an actual world. 13 just had fucking dungeon after dungeon corridors and then after 20 hours you get to the "open" zone only to find out its just walking from one stone to another you don't even get quests from people. It did not feel like a world at all and was horribly designed they made the world better in the third installment but they fucked up in different areas then such as it just being a one person spam fest combat chain.

truth be told though I hated X, the story itself was solid. I mean Tidus exposition could be left out, and it would be better. The reason being that characters were giving exposition during the story. I think increasing the exp required to level up or decreasing the exp rewarded from battles could've gone a long way. Give the player some leeway to actually kill enemies instead of petrifying/carding them without immediatly shooting to level 30 or whatever.

Squall is one of the kindest and most loyal friend you could ever ask for. He is always worried about his friends and would do anything to save them, this doesn't apply to RInoa ever.
One of the best moments for Squall's character development is him realizing he was worried the entire time about the team that was sent to the Missile Base, only to meet them back in Fisherman's. Good gosh, he was almost insane to hear him rejoyce so much.

It's like method acting and here is what I mean by that, also excuse my poor grammer for I am on a phone atm and auto correct is fucked up.
You see my good sir, you identify with this character squall yes? but infact you are forcing your own psyche into this character. Method actors do the same by placing themselves in similar circumstances as the character they plan to act as in real life. The problem with that is, this technique does the exact opposite of its intention, rather than putting the actor in the mind of the character it puts the character in the mind of the ego of the actor. Why you ask? Well it is because the actor instead of getting closer to the character the acer is actually making the character come closer to how the actor thinks.
It's pretty much a false technique when used incorrecly.
You think you know what Squall feels but in fact you really don't and to why is because you think you feel the same way he would in that situation based off of a few moments of dialogue. I can tell you do this because you make no effort to point out his glaring flaws and you actually switch them into positives.
I see this done a million times, there are people who think Zidane was more brooding than he actually was because he didn't know where he was from, the problem is those people were feeling the feels for zidane rather than actually observing how he actually felt as a character.

Being able to identify with a character, sharing his joy and sorrow is the only reason why we can like or dislike what happens to him.
