Have we figured out what/where/when Firelink Shrine is?
>>
>>337956514
In the abyss.
>>
>>337956514
In The Hunter's Nightmare
>>
>>337956514
In the present. The dark one is in the past.

There. Fuck.
>>
've got some lore questions regarding Humanity and the Dark.

The Age of Fire is the age of gods, right? What exactly do humans get out of it when their age is the Age of Dark? To me it seems the gods are always using you as a pawn in the games because the Age of Dark is terrible for them. But how bad is it for humanity?

And what is the difference between a hollow and an undead?
>>
>>337957987
Present is in the future, dark is the now
>>
>>337958167
I think a Hollow is and Undead who lost all purpose and went Hollow. Basically without goal you turn into a zombie.

Not sure if Undeads all have the Darksign, I think they do

No one knows how the Age of Dark actually is
>>
>>337958328
That literally makes 0 sense.
>>
I've got some questions I made while I was scouting parts of the map to get a better feel for the geography:

dark souls 3 questions:

What do the statues in profane capital represent
Where is the profane capital on the world map
Are the cylindrical and spiralling structures in profane capital reminiscent of any other dark souls game's structures?
What is the significance of the one pair of statues who hold a long pole, and could it be part of yhorm's machete, as it looks similar?
Is the kiln in profane capital surrounded by the three aristocrats, specifically the "profane flame"?
why is the greatshield of glory, crafted for syan for his giant slaying exploits, found in the profane capital, a shield that descibes "glory begets indolence" could this be related to yhorm and his "descendance from conquerors" could they directly be referring to dark souls 2 giants?
why do the charred corpses in the profane capital area, presumably a result of the profane flame "disaster", still bleed?
Why are the crabs in smouldering lake embered?
Why is the shield of want in smouldering lake
Why are there candles lit to the left of the sandworm?
What are the ghru, the mutated and rotted descendants of farrons legion doing in demon ruins?
>>
>>337957987
Except you don't teleport to Untended Graves, which you do for Firelink.
>>
>>337958479
Go to Untended Graves again. Something like that, with the Abyss taking free reign wherever it likes.
>>
What was Alva doing in Irthyll?
>>
>>337958637
You know what i'm going to say don't you.

Time is convoluted and stuff.
>>

The Abyss is NOT the Dark.
>>
>>337958658
But the Abyss is not synonymous with Dark, it only started spreading after Oolacile idiots opened the grave.
>>

It's not called Fire Souls Anon. Miyazaki put the fucking canon ending in the title.

>why would they be so fiercely guardian (8 of them) one npc?
>why would the remnants of the profane capital have motivation to keep karla jailed?

>zullie who knew black magic
>dark edge implies it was handed down from mother to daughter

>a message in his room describes "Only a storm can fell a greatwood."
>notably the giants in dark souls 2 appear to grow into trees eventually
>but why?
>of the other tree like growths, pontiff sulayvahn, and the londor pilgrims, we can see that it might be related to hollowing, londor itself being related to the abyss and a land of hollows, pontiff sulayvahn being implied to have hollowed by way of taking more damage with weapons that do more against hollowing
>dark souls 2 giants, approaching hollowing may "lose their face" in a way, and eventually sprout roots, in this sense they would literally be hollowing
>yhorm in his state is newly risen, awoken by the bell which awoke you, aldrich, abyss watchers, siegward, anri and hawkwood
>siegward is implied to have awoken with you, knowing that this signals the time to fulfil his promise
>his promise?
>to kill yhorm should he be corrupted by the abyss or fall to the profane capital again
>yhorms red eyes and general maddened state, his lack of familiarity with siegward all give this credence
>yhorm is in effect a descendant of dark souls 2's giants
>pontiff sulayvahn discovered the remnants of profane capital, found out the association with giants to the profane flame, and contacted drangleic's remnants, which is why their are two drang warriors in the courtyard, and why you find the llewelyn gear in cathedral of the deep, a place where aldrich's influences, and by large pontiff sulayvahn's connections are tied
>the paintings of nashandra and the kiln are relics from drangleic to display this
>the greatshield of glory, crafted for syan, who lead the fight against giants but was slaughtered is found in profane capital

Lil' Prince Lothric used to play at the untended graves as a child because he's a sad emo cunt. When he became a big boi he wanted a replica of where he used to play as a child but this time with a cute waifu in it, that's how The Firelink Hub was born.

>>
>>337959125
Calm down, man. I already read all of this in the last thread
>>
>>337959016
Yea, but it still doesn't explains what the Age of Dark actually is/looks like.

Although it seems to me it's the Age of Ancients, since IIRC the Firekeeper says something along the line of "flames will eventually emerge, even in Darkness", which is what happened in the AoA
>>
>>337958842
Not inherently maybe.
>>337958949
Not untrue, sure.

But i've always believed that an age of fire, at it's strongest, would hold back the Abyss.
>>

I wont ruin the game for you, and seriously don't read onwards unless you have fully completed the game

Hollows in the intro.jpg
39KB, 1280x720px
>>337958167

The original form of ALL human like creatures are Hollow. The Lords got Lordsouls and the humans got Dark Souls from The Fire. They transformed from hollows into humans or Lords.

The Fire fuels all life in the world. It fuels the power of souls as well. As the fire wanes, the Dark Souls lose power. Humans get "the curse", which is them losing their Dark Soul. They become Hollow. The fire must be recharged to remove the "curse". Pure speculation, but since Dark Souls are tiny weak things, they probably burn out first. Lord Souls are more powerful, so they last longer when the fire wanes. If the fire dies completely they would die out too probably. The Lords would return to Hollow.

So the Curse isn't some disease like leprocy. It's turning back to your normal state. Humanity, and having a mind is the abnormal state of the universe.

>And what is the difference between a hollow and an undead?

An undead is in the process of turning Hollow. They still have some memories and minds. If they keep eating Dark Souls they can stave off going hollow.

>The Age of Fire is the age of gods, right? What exactly do humans get out of it when their age is the Age of Dark? To me it seems the gods are always using you as a pawn in the games because the Age of Dark is terrible for them. But how bad is it for humanity?

Don't listen to the lies of the Jews. They just want to bring about The Abyss everywhere. The Age of Dark is likely just the age of weird Dark Monsters everywhere.
>>
What is The Deep?

The Abyss? It seems to be water related, but not just water
>>
>>337959267
Anon, we know what it looks like. The Untended Graves are in an Age of Dark, when no champion came forward to link the fire.

I don't know how common the belief is, but right now I think Ludleth was the one that ended that and started a new Age of Fire.
>>
>>337959397
Doesn't the Dark Soul becomes more powerful as the Fire weakens?

I'm pretty sure it does
>>
>>337958479
>>337958167

Expanding on Hollow/Undead.

You become undead when you get the Dark Sign. You are still you though. But you slowly begin to lose your mind. Many of the mad NPCs you find are on the brink of turning fully hollow.

When you turn fully hollow, you go feral. But you'll notice that many of the hollows you find are wearing armor, and fight the way they did when they were alive. These are recently turned hollows. The longer they exist, the less they act like humans. They forget how to fight. Their armor rots off and drops.

The oldest hollows are those in rags. The older ones than that are likely the mad ones who don't even attack.

So it's a process.

>>
>>337959441
It deals with Dark and Humanity based spells, so imo it seems likely. I'm not sure where the link with water comes from, but yeah I caught something like that too.

Maybe the Abyss is sealed under water? Who knows, maybe it'll come up in DLC.

Dark Souls 3 enemy variety sucks ass so they just copy pasted enemies from area to area.

>Yea, but it still doesn't explains what the Age of Dark actually is/looks like.

You see New Londo and Ooracle? That's what it's like. Darkwraiths patrolling everywhere stealing humanity. Darkness. The Abyss.

It's not a fun place. The Snakes are LYING when they say this is the "Age of Men". Technically true I guess. Men become Darkwraiths and they fight each other and everyone else to be King Darkwraith with the most humanity. But is that where you'd want to live?

What is the fucking point of keeping the world in DS alive?

It is eternally fucked as long as the flame is burning, the age of dark is just natural evolution reboot that NEEDS to happen.

Bloodborne's world was changed by ayylmaos but still functions.
Demon's was just Boletaria being cut off from the rest of the world.

So why?

Why no brong age of dark finally, why is it considered "bad" ending.

>no its the same as the ones every where else. the profaned flame is referenced in many zones in conjunction with many bosses and is clearly just a throwaway lore term that has no overarching purpose besides the director telling the writers to throw it into their daily product at one of the meetings
>its found in the profaned capital cuz yhorm is a giant, no other reason, From isnt very deep
>because they are a copy paste model from another zone and they bleed in those zones
>to make them look different from other crabs. They arent actually embered
>to give players loot for exploring
>because candles are fucking everywhere in ds 3. They think it makes it look cool and gothic. Really just fucking retarded. Especially in the archive where they would burn all those books down after just a few minutes.
>Because they didnt feel like designing new enemies for a hidden area, lazy shits.

>>337958167
The Age of Dark is a mixed bag. You're right that the Gods are influencing humans to extend the Age of Fire for their own livelihood and power, but the main thing is that most humans just aren't prepared to deal with life in the Age of Dark (if you could call it that). More than anything, the fear of the Gods has conditioned them to be afraid too.

But that's just the perspective of most humans. What actual danger does the Age of Dark pose outside of fundamental changes not only to lighting, but the concepts of life and death itself? That depends on who assumes the mantle of the Gods in the Age of Dark.

Oolacile and Manus shows us that a rampant and wild, corrupted Age of Dark is a fiercely predatory environment. The only humanoids you meet still alive are either vultures like Chester or possessing great martial ability such as Cirian or Hawkeye Gough. The Age of Dark is horrible if it is corrupted by the Abyss, which is independent of the dying of the flames. The flame wasn't dying when you go back in time to Oolacile.

But, the Untended Graves of Dark Souls 3 shows us a different Age of Dark. There are dangers there, yes, but they're located in what has arguably been the most post-apocalyptic place in the Dark Souls universe. And even then, you find a lonely old lady in Firelink, living peacefully and undisturbed. Though we don't know what fundamentals of life have changed with the Dark, we know that it still goes on.

An undead is someone branded with the darksign. A hollow is an undead who has lost their human features and is not in posession of humanity, and are in constant danger of going mad should they let despair eat them up.

Everything that dark soul created will vanish as the flame is out.

It will be eternal darkness until world is not ready for rebirth.

The Deep:

Aldrich had a vision of a age of the deep sea

His covenant ranks up by giving human dregs to the archdeacon in the water reserve

dregs:

the remnants of a liquid left in a container, together with any sediment.

Described as the heaviest part of a human body, literally because it's water, and it will sink to the lowest depths imaginable, the deep.

You kill cathedral trespassers in dark souls 3 to gain more dregs, and give them to the deacon.

But like all covenant items you have to ask "why do they want these?"

And the answer is simple:

>aldrich saw a vision of the deep sea
>decided to suck the human dregs, or water out of every human, or turn them into water whatever
>aldrich stores this in the "water reserrve" in anor londo

Aldrich's plan is literally to turn every human into a sea

great deep soul description

"Archdeacon McDonnell, a sorcerer himself, delighted in the cathedral's stagnating souls. For him, they represented the glorious bedrock of this world.

it's interesting they use the term bedrock to describe the process

I know this goes against the lore, but I wanted to see at least one place unaffected by the Curse for something unique. Like a Holy land of some sorts. The further you proceed into the area the more the land/people are affected by the Curse.

>What is the fucking point of keeping the world in DS alive?

So that people can live their lives in peace without zombie apocalypse. Between the age of fire ending there are centuries of normality.

Dark Souls world is just our world's entropy just sped up like a billion times faster.

The Age of Dark is just New Londo for the whole world. Don't believe the lies of the Snakes. They are destroyers of civilizations who work behind the scenes to wreck everything.

You are wrong.

At best ot buys few thousands of years and it doesn't remove the curse of undead/hollow.
It doesn't remove the demons.

World in Dark Souls is vegetable being kept alive just so it can mumble something once per x years.

It needs a reboot no matter how drastic.

Age of Dark doesn't literally mean there won't be any light source.
It means that Dark Soul will vanish.
>>
>>337960613
but literally everything is ds is a zombie. You wander around for hours and hours and hours and everything you find attacks you for no fucking reason. There is no normality and absolutely no civilization. Its just an endless trudge through ruined hallways killing enemies and then killing more powerful bosses, only 5 or six of whom actually have some lore related reason to fight
>>
Are the cycles a result of a plot between Kaathe and Frampt, or are they the natural result of their struggle?

Are they working together, or fighting each other?

>>337960210
>The flame wasn't dying when you go back in time to Oolacile.
Yes it was because that was the first outbreak of the curse

The curse in Dark Souls 1 was the second outbreak of the curse
>>
So I finished the game today.

Is the normal version of the End of Fire ending canon? It's gotta be, right? I mean everything is looping in this series. The age of dark is inevitable and now it finally happens. But just as the Firekeeper mentioned, fire will come back at some point and everything will start again.

Just like at the beginning of Dark Souls 1 where everything was dark and suddenly fire appeared. It's an endless loop.
>>
>>337961337
It's more to present the player with questions on the timeline aspect of the whole situation
>>
>>337960840
>you fucked up in the first sentence
>they are pygmies in the beginning

The creatures you see in the intro look, act, and move like Hollows. They're hollows. Why assume some new race called "Pygmies" exist? use Occam's razor please.

And what is the Curse other than removing your soul turning you into a hollow again? It fits perfectly.

>>337961076

DS games take place during the waning of the flame, in areas where zombies have taken over. This is not normal. When the fire is strong, civilizations flourish. Life is normal. No different than what you see around you now. Would you not want to save that?

The world we see in DS games is the world at it's absolute worse. So don't judge it like that.

>>337961096

We don't know how old the Serpents are. They might be much older than any of the cycles. Gwyn's cycle might not even be the first.

I see no reason to take the explanations given to you about them as reasonable. The Serpents work to bring about The Age of Dark. Why? Who knows. They might be nuts, or serve some other master. Frampt befriended Gywn and changed sides. He likes humanity. He wishes to continue the age of Fire.
>>
Guys it is simple.

Age of Fire = Benefits gods and higher beings.

Age of Dark = In the end would benefit humans (as they would emerge after all gods and other beings died).

No more souls.
No more rebirth.
No more bidding of gods.

After few aeons humans would become what we pretty much are.

The transition to it could have been a lot better, i'll agree with that at least.

Right now it's either "you walk trough a door and go back in time" or "you walk through a door and see the real firelink, but that doesn't make sense because in this one area the age of fire has ended".

Obviously I think the first one is right, but it still makes little sense with the way it's constructed. Time and space in convoluted indeed.

Firelink is behind lothric castle.

When you warp to the high wall it's on the far side of the castle, firelink and untended graves are kind of a peninsula/outcropping jutting away from everywhere else.

On a related note, looking at the structure of the belltower above firelink, could it be a derelict version of undead parish? It kind of looks similar when you stand at the bonfire before Iudex at the beginning.
>>
>>337961584
>The creatures you see in the intro look, act, and move like Hollows. They're hollows. Why assume some new race called "Pygmies" exist?
Are you fucking retarded. Pygmies aren't a new race.

It is explicitly stated that everyone were pygmies in the beginning.
They are literal nothings, the start.
Until they get souls they become what ever is assigned to them.
Hollows are only to Humans. Pygmies who gained the Dark Soul became Human. Once the curse happened, they are branded with the darksign. They are now Undead. They can not die but the next best thing to dying is going Hollow. They are still undead but they lost all their souls/humanity/motivation etc and is now HOLLOW.

Pygmy is the very beginning and Hollow is at the end.
>>
>>337961874

>>337962250
Considering those were all of the things rising when the fire was gaining power, and it later describes the furtive pygmy as having taken a lord soul as well, they were likely all pygmys before allowing the Lord Souls to change them (except of course for him). Kaathe later met the Pygmy and was like 'yeah dawg, age of dark sounds cool let's do it'.

Once you get Fire Keeper Eyes, you can dispell the illusion the Fire Keepers are casting on the world and see it in it's "real" state.

Aka literally no sun.
Eternal darkness.
No return.

Would be great way to turn DS3 into nightmare.

>Gwyn's cycle might not even be the first

Nah. It's definitely the first, because everything was gray and craggy and shit and then the first flame was discovered. It might take place after an ashen one super far in the past pulled a betrayal ending, but that's just pure speculation.

If the fire completely burns out it turns into the Gray and craggy world of dragons and hollows. The beginning of DS is thus just the end of another cycle. The cycles may in fact even go on infinitely far into the past.

The Serpents are obviously one hydra creature.

We will likely fight them as a boss fight.

But it won't be in the DLC. Because that's too final. DSIII DLC will jerk uss around and give us some hints but will resolve nothing. They will want to leave the door open for sequels in the future. They might take a 10 year break, but there will be more Dark Souls games.

And killing the Serpents would be something you'd do in an endgame scenario. Kill the Primordial Hydra. Find out he works for some bigger bad. fight that guy.

From my understanding the "cycles" as they're referred to ingame are just the world yoyoing between Frampt's perpetuation of the age of fire and kaathe's age of dark/man. There wasn't really any indication until das3 that there could be a greater cycle with the inclusion of the betrayal ending.

More to the point, it is rather telling that lifehunt scythe miracle is specifically JUST the power of the lifehunt, not the actual physical scythe itself, which would make for concrete evidence that she was et by aldy. The fact that it's specifically a miracle, which are divine stories, but stories nonetheless, seems to run counter to the belief that Priscilla was consumed by Aldrich.

It's the irithyll dungeon entrance.

The only issue is, that they rushed the development, so that smouldering lake can't be seen from the irithyll dungeon-distant manor bit.

Which is pretty frustrating honestly.

It's interesting that smouldering lake is effectively underneath irithyll
>>
>>337966678
She's not and I know what they item descriptions say.

It is possibly that she is saying it in a religious tense like how you'll call your priest father and a nun sister.

Gwyndolin is probably her father because when Aldrich ate Gwyndolin, Aldrich dreamt of Priscilla while doing so.

Yorshka looks like Priscilla and possibly her daughter.

Gwyndolin protected Yorshka and Yorshka inherited the Darkmoon covenant when Gwyndolin was gone.

Why would you believe Yorshka when she thought you fucking flew to her? She's naive and trusts anything you say.

Yorshka wasn't around in Dark Souls 1. How could her father be Gwyn. Think bro
>>
>>337966678
It might not be his biological sister though

Yorshka's chime says this

>A sacred chime belonging to Yorshka. Her brother, the former knight captain, presented her with this medium together with another gift: her name.

What if she is Ocellote and an actual HE.

After all, he's the only character we know that was on the run and missing. And considering Gwyndolin backstory, him raising another being as a she (like he was) is not far fetched. And used him to fill the hole left by Priscilla incarceration. She was clearly in his thoughts even in death if we take Aldritch miracle as a base.

Why does Firelink look so different from DaS to DaS3
>>
>>337959397
>he didn't pay ANY attention to Aldia's dialogue in Dark Souls 2
Nigga, Aldia was studying human's affinity for flame and the original linking by Gwyn. He gives you all the info you need to debase the whole "dur Age of Dark is bad" or "dur Age of Fire is bad."

He tells you that Gwyn used his power to merge the Dark Soul, which was the Pygmy's domain and therefore the true affinity of all humans, to a great lust for flame. This is how he gets powerful undead to link the fire every time it's on the verge of fading, because his soul and the souls of the gods have an affinity for flame, so dark would be shitty for their power.
>Peace grants men the illusion of life.
>Shackled by falsehoods, they yearn for love, unaware of its grand illusion.
>Until, the curse touches their flesh.
>We are bound by this yoke.
>As true as the Dark that churns within men.
>All men trust fully the illusion of life.
>But is this so wrong?
>A construction, a facade, and yet…
>A world full of warmth and resplendence.

However, because of this, even an Age of Dark doesn't spell out the end of humanity's problems. Because the curse that Gwyn put on humans is so strong, fire will be born one day even out of an Age of Dark. The fire keeper in DS3 tells us this even.
>The eyes show a world without fire, a vast stretch of darkness. But 'tis different to what is seen when stripped of vision. In the far distance, I sense the presence of tiny flames. Like precious embers, left to us by past Lords, linkers of the fire.

There is no good ending to all this, world is shitty either way. Weirdly enough, I kinda like the Hollow Lord ending that we got, because while linking the fire removes the curse for awhile and renouncing it will only bring about another Age of Fire in the end, the Hollow Lord ending allows humanity to embrace their true affinity for Dark, as, like you said
>The original form of ALL human like creatures are Hollow.

Same woman. My theory on firelink vs darklink is that:

>Lothric was supposed to link the fire in this cycle, but refused
>Gundyr went to take his place but was too late - fire was too faded and needed the flames of lords of cinder to get another cycle going
>Alternatively, the fire's been rekindled so many times at this point Gundyr found out that one soul just wasn't enough (which could also be one reason Lothric decided not to bother linking the flame)
>So the Ashen ritual gets used instead
>That's what we see the firekeeper doing in the opening cinematic
>Shrine maiden makes her way to the untended graves (or never leaves them, being undead or whatever)
>Firekeeper enacts the ritual and gets sucked into a pocket dimension firelink along with the shrine maiden
>Andre gets resurrected and put to work as the shrine blacksmith
>You get rezzed as an ashen one and the game begins

So it basically acts like the hunter's dream. Based on a real world place and summons in real world people (doll exists in both versions) but exists outside of time to allow the protagonist to serve their purpose.

-If all the Lords of Cinder are resurrected, why isnt Gwyn, the first Lord, resurrected?

-Why isnt the Chosen Undead resurrected (if the canon ending is him linking the fire)?

-Did we awaken Gwyn after ringing the two bells of awakening in Dark Souls?

Interesting how you took it that way. I interpreted it more as

>Fire dies, but embers remain
>No more reliance on gods and central fire and all that jazz; people instead muster up the fire within and become their own embers

You know how, in the real world, our technological growth and dependency on fossil fuels are unsustainable, and we are scrambling to find and develop new viable sources of energy?

It's like that. We have a status quo, and we want to maintain it. We'll do what it takes, and what it takes is respectively to link the flame, or switch to wage wars for more oil and/or switch to nuclear/solar energy or some shit.
>>
>>337969913
Being a LoC doesn't mean you have linked the flame. Like Hawkwood said Aldrich never linked it, but is one due to power.

The ones that are resurrected are presumably the most recent ones.

The ones that are not resurrected, are instead resurrected as the oversoul of those who linked the fire. Soul of Cinder

Aldrich linked the flame forced by Sullyvahn though.

If the present time happens when Lothric and Lorian live, there's no reason for them to be called Lords of Cinder after you kill them, and there's also no reason why they have an "embered" fiery second phase.
>>
>>337969683
Nah, Unkindles have been a thing for looong time before we arrive. It doesn't start with the game.

And i personally think Gundyr was tricked. Someone set him up since from his description, his armor and weapon were clearly made to withstand the test of time. So whoever sent him there, knew he would be locked in those Graves for a long time.
>>
>>337970314
Hawkwood said that he became a LoC because his absurd strength made people scared of him and so they decided to lock him up and make him link the fire in some attempt to kill him, not because he wanted to link the fire out of good intentions aka virtue like everyone else.

>Chosen undead ditches the fire and leaves it to die
>Time-bending bell bullshit happens, ashen ones get summoned in
>Kill chosen undead, use his soul to rekindle the fire anyway

To me it makes more sense than this bullshit about ages of dark being followed by ages of fire. Would also explain why Kaathe wants the fire usurped this time instead (since leaving it to die is futile and all).

Here's a little thing I made to help explain the difference between the Abyss and the Dark. It's arranged as axis, with the Age of Fire and Age of Dark being opposite. Chaos and the Abyss are really a separate axis all together, but they sort of lean towards the side they benefit the most from.

The Age of Dark is kind of a misnomer because it's really more of the age of grey, before disparity. It's a return to the time before the first Flame where nothing happened and everyone was in the shitty in-between state of being Undead. The First Flame and it are opposites in the sense where the Age of Dark is the absence of fire. Gwyn is obviously the strongest association with the Age of Fire, but Pygmy can't be associated with Dark in the same way Gwyn can be with Fire.

The reason for this is that the Pygmy and Witch of Izalith are more directly opposed in the Chaos vs. Abyss issue. Chaos is the Witch's corruption of fire into demons. The important thing here is that Chaos and Fire aren't necessarily the same thing, but Chaos depends on Fire for its source, and is sort of everything wrong with too much fire.

The Abyss is the mirror image of Chaos and Fire, but for Dark instead. The Abyss is the Pygmy's Lord Soul corrupted in the same way the Witch's was, running rampant and instead getting the most benefit from the absence of fire. The Pygmy going batshit insane and becoming Manus caused the Age of Dark to go from being grey-depressed-time to black-sludge-horror-time.

There are some problems with this, namely Nito being almost completely ignored and my lack of understanding of how Humanity can work in a world with no fire, but I'll leave that to you all.

They are the most elusive thing to discuss and everythin about them is speculation territory. There are references though.

Dark Souls 3 have hints saying that Snakes could be earlier form of Dragons. And their name "Primordial Snakes" is also a good hint about how primeaval they are in the world.
So, what could something that exist since the Age of Ancients want?

About that, no hint exists. But Kaathe clearly don't enjoy the Flame. I'd say he wants to go back and is tricking everyone, selling the idea that a Dark World is up the corner, when in truth, the end is Grey and that's what he's seeking.

Abyss Watchers are tainted.
Yhorm is in grief and mad by what happened to his people in the Capital.
Aldritch wants to eat the gods and prepare for the Deep.

because his ashes still have the necessary power to link the flame, despite not burning. he was born and bred for that exact purpose, after all.
>>

He is consider a lord of cinder because he was born and groomed for it from birth. His dad was obsessed with making a lord of cinder one of his heris he deiced it would be lothric, Lothric even has the same power as the ashen one to become emebered.
>>

I think Sully was the first scholar.

Also, Profaned Greatsword is a ceremonial sword. Makes sense perhaps that Lothric could wield it in ceremonies if Sullyvahn was around.

Not a "Scholar of the First Sin" or anything like that, just a powerful sorcerer (as it is confirmed Sullyvahn was)

The game already says why, his entire life and raison d'être was to link the fire.

He was created to be the perfect heir of the Lothric line, everything pointed out to him being the ultimate badass linker of the fire but shit went horribly wrong.

See his ashe's description:

And exactly where does it say that LoC HAVE to link the fire?
I get what you are saying it sound stupid.
I didn't believe it at first either but all the evidence point towards Lotrich never haveing linked it

If you see the Into he is not even mentiond as one of the people the linked the fire like Yhorm, Aldrich and the watchers

He got convinced othervies probably by Khate of Frampt seeing the statuse in lothric castle

And the reason Lorian is crippled is because he joined their souls so Lotrich could live.
the reason for Lotrich being sick is because their father the former king wouldn't fucking stop with the LMAO DRAGON SONS.

Also they don't have the read eyes like yhorm and the watchers and seem relatively sane

>>

Nah, the Soulfeeder is a transposed weapon, in same way he does for you. So he used the Soul to create the weapon.

Famalamamam, Sully wasn't even alive for Aldrich linking the flame in the first place.

The Church of the Deep is multiple cycles old, there is literally 0 way Sully would have been alive for all of that shit -- too much time has passed. He wasn't even the original pontiff of the Church. He usurped the position from someone else, and Yorshka implies that the former pontiff was Gwyndolin

what is up with the candle headed guys in the grand archives and also in the area immediately after where you fight the three npc faaram guy, dual kat guy, and magic guy, there is a statue of the candle men. Then there are also multiple statues of things with frampt/kaathe/serpent heads and humanoid bodies and small wings for arms.

Are those statues what people implied the serpents were since they could only see their neck/heads. So their brains could only imply what the rest of them were?

Plus, Anri's gear states that Astora is long dead and forgotten, even during her own time, and that she just wore the gear for motivation.

Considering that Carim and Catarina are both STILL around, there really isn't any good indication of when Astora fell. Saying "it's after DaS1" is relatively meaningless, because of how much time has passed after DaS1

Yes.

Here's the japanese translation of Soul Stream.

Soul Stream
(Soul Geyser in Dark Souls 2)

"Sorcery imparted by the first of the Scholars, when Lothric and the Grand Archives were but young.
The first of the Scholars doubted the linking of the fire, and was alleged to be a private mentor to the Royal Prince."

ロスリックと大書庫のはじまりにおいて 最初の賢者が伝えたとされる魔術
最初の賢者は火継ぎの懐疑者であり また密かに、王子の師でもあったという

"A sorcery taught by the First Sage, when Lothric and the Great Library first began. The First Sage was a skeptic of the fire-linking, and secretly tutored the prince."

-"First" literally means chronologically the first, not "greatest" or anything similar.

-An-Dil's (Aldia's) "scholar" title in Dark Souls 2 was actually "探求者" (seeker), what was translated to scholar this time was 賢者 (sage). Translating it to "Scholar", with a capital S, suggests that the translator might have had some additional insight into the wording, probably from From/Miyazaki.

-「最初の賢者」は「first of the Scholars」と訳されており、「Scholar of the First Sin」(「原罪の探求者」)との関連性を匂わせている

My take is this:

Gwyn is hollow because Gods in Dark Souls are just humans with greater powers and he linked the flame to humanity, creating the darksign.

Gods can hollow and go mad in Dark Souls, just like the Nameless King

The PC is awakened by the Bell of Awakening, which raises the question if he's a Lord of Cinder too. The whole Unkindled thing is just a mess and a fuckup by FROM, they should have brought back humanity

The fire must have been linked at least three times because Lothric didnt and Ludleth is not clear if he did or not.

I think Sullyvahn and Aldrich are slightly older than Lothric, but still around somehow.

Sullyvahn may have arranged the death of Gwyndolin without Lothric's consent.

He's a pretty important figure, a would-be head of two of the three pillars of Lothric (he's a master sorcerer AND priest, and responsible for mixing faith and intelligence to fuck with miracles and sorcery)

But then Aldrich devouring Gwyndolin doesnt make sense time-wise unless the game takes place WAAAAY after the intro of the game

>Gwyn created the darksign

the Darksign, and the curse of Undeath, are both inherent features of reality. Hollows are the true face of man, Gwyn had nothing to do with this basic fact of nature. Aldia states this in DaS2, and Yuria states this in DaS3.

The Darksign is just a reflection that the Dark has overwhelmed the influence of Light within you -- this includes Death, which is a product of the Age of Fire. As the Dark Soul eclipses the influence of Fire within you, an eclipse forms on your body -- the Darksign.

Note that when the Flame is about to fade in DaS3, the ENTIRE SUN is eclipsed by the Dark, and it forms a gigantic darksign in the sky.

I'm doubting ENB with his current playthrough on some aspects, because I know when someone shills for money and when he doesnt, and I suspect he's doing it (after he got accused of not liking the game)

Bear in mind YouTube is a business first, and there are no big youtubers that are free of sin.

Usually the best ones are small unknown channels.
>>
>>337981654

I didn't hear about that.

He doesn't like DaS3? I feel like this series has been hit or miss considering DaS1 was one of the best games I've ever played.

Bloodborne was amazing. They need to just stick to some original ideas, even if the gameplay mechanics stay the same.

>abyss - flame

>implying
dark pyromancies are not the Profaned Flame, the Profaned Flame pyromancy does not deal dark damage.

Dark Pyromancies are you forcing your Humanity out through your Pyro Glove, essentially conjuring the Abyss (which is wild humanity aka wild dark soul aka dark fire) in the palm of your hand.

The Profaned Flame is chaos + the Abyss mixed together, it's a different phenomena.

Was watching him earlier to day good info but man he's not good at talking
>>
>>337981915

He does like it, but again, bear in mind EVERY youtuber with 150.000+ subs is a sellout in some capacity or degree.

ENB started (rightfully) complaining of the blatant fanservice and copy-paste material of DaS 3 in his early videos, and some retards and Bamco shills accused him of him not liking the game.

ENB had to sell out and spend some time apologizing and explainind how he did like the game, so he wouldnt lose subs and views.

From my point of view, my guess is Bamco threatened him directly with ending his YouTube career or at least maiming him (this happens all the time) and he had to change the way he was playing.

After the first videos he doesnt say any negative things about the game at all.
>>
>>337982201

Yeah I'm not a huge fan either, I just named him as an example of a youtuber that puts out more amateur videos than VaatiVidya and has less fame but that manages to put out quality content that Vaati could never hope to achieve.
>>
>>337982378
He's not that bad and puts out great info but man is his voice monotoned.
>>
>>337982268

It's a shame he can't even be honest. Anyone that's been playing these games for years is delusional if they can't see the copy pasting and fanservice.

That's why so many people love Bloodborne. It did it's own thing.
>>
>>337965159
So does that mean Aldrich discovered lifehunt from that vision, or that he had his minions go and retrieve Priscilla so he could eat her after finding out where she is from Gwyndolin?
>>
>>337982745

It's the YouTube business.

E-celebs are like actors. What you see on screen is scripted to varying degrees, and they're not like you see them on screen either.

There is heavy corporate influence on YouTube, and there are subscriber barriers that when unlocked bring corporations more attention.

The more subs a channel has, the more generic and less unique the videos are, because the youtuber doesnt have to work as hard to earn views (money).

Not a single person that makes money off of YouTube is honest, except some rare exceptions.

ENB is still somewhat honest, surprising for his sub number.

I can imagine how Bamco raged when he refused to play Dark Souls III early.

So what happens after he meets the highest guy?
Is he going to tell the grandeur Undead that he was searching for one to match his power? That he was tired of the "gods" coveting so little they had, and that they blinded themselves from seeing true power? Is he going to elevate the Undead, reveal the obscure secrets behind this worlds story, and then give him a choice to inherit or destroy it?

Either way, sounds pretty ambitious. Mizayaki did say this was the last Dark Souls game.

So why do vordt and the dancer just appear out of a portal when you fight them?
>>
>>337988354

They are imperfect dragons and jealous of them.

They probably showed the gods the souls or started the fire.

They supported Gwyn and the rest agains the dragons, then supported the 4 kings and Darkwraiths against Gwyn the Witch and her demons against everyone, then supported the Chosen Undead agains anyone left.

Either ending is a farm for souls for them. You either give them souls and humanity during your gameplay or you end up prolonging the state of things.

It's all a ruse with no way out. It's all rigged.

The only way to defeat the Serpents is to turn off the game.

Also they are at least 10 and may be extensions of the same being.
>>
>>337987668
Alright, hopefully nobody tries to steal it.

Here are the facts first:
Okay, so we know that the Untended Graves is a pet project from the Queen of Lothric. Hidden Blessing and Ashen Estus ring both says that she's the one taking care of the place. Handmaiden both selling and dropping the Lothric Priestress Rings further reinforce this fact.

We know that the Queen of Lothric is 90% confirmed to be Gywnevere due to the description of Divine Blessing and the fact that her Silver Knights also drop the same Diving Blessing with the DS3 description.

Judging by Ludleth's dialogue and these:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTzp0TSjl6o
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koCVr5mg6mw
We can surmise that he didn't prolong the Age of Fire as long as the others and is a LoC to act as an agent to prod/help you along a certain path.

Finally, we know that Untended Graves/Firelink shrine can trap and respawn certain Undeads like Ludleth, Andre, Firekeeper and Handmaiden because of their dialogue and Handmaiden telling you not to tarry long.

Everybody in DS3's overworld has heard the bell and yet the bell in Untended Graves never tolled. A smaller fact that goes unnoticed is that everyone outside Firelink refers to you as a Champion of Ash but everyone from Firelink refers to you as Ashen One. Iudex Gundyr's original title is Ash Adjudicator as well so it seems that people in DS3 are mistaking you for him.

Putting those together, I'm going to post my rough theory in the next post
>>
>>337988740

They're trying to stop you from putting the fire out.

They also come from some Abyss shit thanks to Sullyvahn.

The Dancer looks tied up or handcuffed until she gets out.

Original Firelink was created by the Queen of Lothric or taken over by her to act as a safeguard of her sons or future LoCs not linking the flame.

It was supposed to be staffed by the Handmaiden, the First Firekeeper, a blacksmith (Not present yet in Untended Grave), Ludleth and Champion Gundyr.

However, Champion Gundyr was delayed by something and arrived late, possibly after the place was swallowed by the abyss which ended up killing the First Firekeeper by filling her with 'frightful scenes of betrayal'. This tale becomes a widely known farce later as confirmed by the Estus Ring. With the project failing, the Queen breaks the Bonfire sword and place part of it in the bowl where you first spawn in High wall in the hopes that someone in the future can succeed.

This part is abit more speculative:
Ludleth probably goes and burn himself at this point so he can respawn later as a LoC. His sacrifice might have pushed back the Abyss in a pocket dimension so that your Ashen Ass doesn't get ganked by Abyss enemies when you wake up in Firelink. Champion Gundyr which you have beatened later DS3 ends up impaled with the Bonfire Sword so that someone worthy enough would take his role and gather the Lords of Cinders instead of some punk ass like Hawkwood.

So that's it for the Firelink-Untended Grave connection theory;

The Mastermind is probably whatever that delays Champion Gundyr and the Black Eclipse which is present strongly in every ending.
>>
>>337990448

And what is that so present?
>>
>>337990448
I thought that all that stopped Gundyr from doing his job was that he awoke from death too late by chance?
>>
>>337990448
Oh, and there's an Easter Egg where if you don't talk to the Handmaiden until after you visit Untended Graves where she recognizes you from her past self.

For the Black Ecplise, there's nothing much that we can conclude about it. The only thing we know is that 1) It only pops up when enough Lords of Cinders have been slain and the flame is close to being 'linked' 2) It has some connection with the Pilgrim butterflies because they don't appear in the same numbers if you use the Dancer Shortcut. In 2 out of the 4 endings, the player sits under or offers the first flame to it so it seems to be some sort of twisted manifestation of the First Flame or a parasite that wants the First Flame to be linked.
>>
>>337968087
wouldn't that pic imply that aldritch and pontiff are from lordran? and isn't ds1 the first of any sort of cycle? why wouldn't he be before yhorm?
>>
>>337969465
there's a lot of implication going on from 2 words.
>>
>>337991027
Gundyr was customed Tailored for his job by his all his description:

"Once, a champion came late to the festivities, and was greeted by a shrine without fire, and a bell that would not toll. "

"A prisoner is one who has staked everything on a belief, a proclivity most apparent in the greatest of champions."

"Halberd of Gundyr the Champion, received when he was charged with his duty.

This old cast-iron halberd has the power to break poise, and is said to never crumble, seeming to suggest that Gundyr was fated to eternal service from the beginning."

It would be incredibly stupid if the Queen's plan was derailed because he doesn't have an alarm clock. On the other hand, all his equipment seems to suggest he was meant to fail from the very start and the Mastermind wanted him as an Iudex rather than a Champion
>>
>>337991195

Id say Pilgrim Butterflies are like tree dragons, and Hollows are turning into trees as seen in High Wall. The cocoons of the butterflies are probably those shells chained to the Londor Pilgrims, which are all hollows too.

The more parts of the flame you kill (the more Lords of Cinder you kill) the more hollow the world becomes

The Eclipse is when the sun meets the moon, and it looks like a darksign (what makes a Hollow hollow) aka the world is going hollow / darkness is overcoming everything.

Original concept art for the end level featured a sun that bled black goo (darkness)

However it is unclear to me if the Sable Church and Kaathe want to extend the Abyss (wild twisted darkness) or just bring about the age of darkness alone.
>>
>>337969465
I wonder what would happened if you could offer the Lord souls the Untended Grave Firelink Shrine.

>>
>>337976687

"Soul of the Twin Princes. One of the twisted souls, steeped in strength.

Use to acquire numerous souls, or transpose to extract its true strength.

The two princes rejected their duty to become Lords of Cinder, and settled down far, far away to watch the fire fade from a distance. A curse makes their souls nearly inseparable."

Straight up says that the didn't do it. The princes also don't have a second fired up phase. Lorian's blade is permanently on fire because he fought and killed the Demon Prince.

Irithyll would be really low below the fog to the left. You can actually see what's left of Anor Londo to the left and it would logically be lower than that since you travel up to get there.
So it's an area we don't actually travel to in the game as of yet.

>>
>>337987571

>>
>>337991981
DaS 1 - The beginning of the curse of relinking the First Flame over and over
DaS 2 - The relinking ritual goes on and on through the ages
DaS3 - The last linking of the First Flame
>>
>>337992251
No, it's more like Gwynevere hired him as a champion but he got side-tracked with swanking gear by the Mastermind. It doesn't seem to fit the Original plan unless for some crazy inexplicable reason that it needs to have failed once for it to really work in the future.

>>337992634
It's not the
Queen (Her plan failed)
Ludleth (An agent, not the mastermind)
Kaathe (You won't need to do a secret 3rd ending to do his bidding then)
Frampt (Assuming that he's the Angel statues, he's working against the Plan)
Gwyndolin (Never did anything before he got nommed on).

That pretty much rules out everybody in the base game, we have to wait until DLC to know more.
>>
How did Ludleth survive linking the fire? Why doesn't he look like the other Lords of Cinder?

Is it just because they were much more powerful than him and he's always been nothing more than a little man?
>>
>>337956514
The same as the others. I have thought of it more like you are invading Lothrics world as soon as you use your bonfire to teleport to high wall. Similar to how you invade other players. You go into their world or their dimension but they all exist parallel to one another even though they also can exist at different times for each world. As one player can be at "the end" of the game while someone else is just beginning. So the untended grave is his firelink just as each player has their own firelink.
>>
>>337993487

The big question is:

Why do we never see him resurrectin gin the intro yet there's a giant open coffin in the shot of Firelink

Why is he tiny with no legs when the throne is the size of a giant (and all other lords have thrones fitting their size)

I am sure it's DLC content
>>
>>337993428

Ludleth legs were cut and he was thrown into the Flame.

I've seen various people suggesting that DaS is ultimately a positive message of persevering against death, which sounds nice, but I'm not sure I see it.

It would perhaps be one thing if you were persisting against the inevitable darkness of death of your own accord, but in dark souls you are simply a pawn, either of an ancient king that is using you to prolong his goals or of some ancient primordial being that basically lies to you about how nice the darkness is.

Either way, your struggle isn't even for the sake of your own existence, but rather in service of some higher powers by whom you are just used and manipulated. Basically DaS is just saying you're a bitch that struggles tirelessly to maintain your bitch existence and then you die for no reason because it doesn't matter anyways. Doesn't really seem that positive of an outlook to me.
>>

Ahh, wait I remember arguing against it. The main argument is that Rosaria lost her tongue when her firstborn cuts it off. Since there's more evidence that Gwynevere = Queen of Lothric, it would be incredibly odd that nobody noticed that the Queen was mute or it took ages for her Firstborn to come back and cut her tongue off.
