First Question:
Why is Pontiff Sulyvahn so based?
>>
>>337893865
because eh kills faggots and doesn't afraid of anything
>>
i actually don't know. he's almost mary sue status.

>badass dual sword wielder
>is also the pope, must have also have great wisdom and intellect
>is the driving force behind half of the evil dickery in the game
>>
>ex-sorcerer fake pope dual-wielding ultra greatswords

I bet his faith is only 5 or some shit
>>
>>337894194
It's Dark Souls, you're in a dying world and only the strongest are still around and not hollow.
>>
>kill him first try just now

Wow, I was expecting to get my ass kicked.

Of course now I'm getting fucking destroyed by the knights on the steps of Anor Londo. Speaking of, why the fuck is Anor Londo here? Why are the knights still here? Are they the same guys, is this the same place, or are they like, people who found their armour and remade their city or something?

I'm having a pretty fun adventure so far, I was expecting the game to be mostly dead and brown but it's been more colourful and interesting than I thought.
>>
>>337893865
>based
>not a monster who ended up fucking up his most loyal of servants and warriors
>>
>"I think I'll worship an evil blob that eats people today"
t. Pontiff Sulyvahn
>>
>>337894347
What is this?
Does it occur to any other enemies?
Looks neat.
>>
How the fuck does the area that you go to after Champion Gundrye even exist? If It's supposed to be the future then how does it exist at the same time as the rest of the game?
>>
>>337894246
>Need 12 faith
Sulyvahn's build is unoptimised lmao
>>
>>337894347
I wish you could save them.

>>
>>337893865

What's the deal with the Profane Fire anyways? and what exactly was Yhorm doing down there in the capital? Was the capital supposed to be a city or what?
>>
>>337894714
Sully's dogs are his followers he's shoved so many dregs into they turned into beasts.
>>
>>337894627
You can also shatter the stray demon's knee causing him to flop onto the ground. I actually found him more dangerous after that, but any attack to his face then ends up a visceral.
>>
>>337894816
i need the rings, anon ;_; Sulyvahn made two monsters that day.
>>
>>337894943

IIRC the old demon king kind of gives up at the end too.

The game really does like that motif. It's a bit sad.

When you fight the old demon king, he 'kindles' himself at about 75% HP

at about 10% he starts charging and after a set time will nuke the area around him and his flame goes out, most people kill him while he charges, but if you dont, and avoid the nuke, he falls to his knees and tries to get back up, but cant, if you get to close he tries to slap you away, but nothing happens, goes on until you kill him. I would get a webm but my toasters too shit to record anything worthwhile
>>

Aldritch didn't enjoy eating people/gods, he felt like he had to so survive the Age of the Deep he knew was coming. Eating so many deformed/cursed people turned him into a big blob, when Sully found him, he thought "hey a giant blob, I'll bet I can spin this into a major religion".

oh fuck me, is that what the bracelets were for? i like this, makes him being dragged away a bit sad, even if he deserves it
>>
>>337895950
Her armor states that it is fused to her skin
Her blades just state that he made her into a Dancer after fashioning blades identical to his for her, which to me sounds like he fancied her a bit. Rape is purely speculation, though a Frollo/Esmeralda relationship between them would amuse me
>>
>>337895950

You didn't read that, her flesh bound with the armour ala the regular outrider knights and vordt because of the pontiff rings turning you into beasts.
Fairly sure the two phantoms you see leaving are Vordt and the Dancer
>>
>>337896102
fuck i was curious about those two phantoms we see in irithyll...
>>
>>337894331
The reason we are seeing old locations is the very world is trying to force the Lord's together so that they man the fuck up, do thier jobs, and link the flame. Like tectonic plates shifting enrire continents closer together.

Biggest evidence of this in terms of enviroment can found first in the undead settlement (enormous fissure splitting it's way through the area) next go to the profaned capitol. You dont think the entire city was just that one area and yhorms palace was normally cleaved in half exposing it from the cliff side do you? Lastly right before the last fight you can see a fuck tons of cities and shit piled up and rolled together as the earth (as in dirt) tried to drag the Lord's to the site of the first flame.

Also how old is siegward if he was a friend of yorm is he a ghost?
What is the story behind ludleth and gundyr I heard those two are connected or something?
Also what is up with Karla I heard she was raped or something?
>>

Tragic DLC backstory when?
>>
>>337896172

How exactly did Wolnir fall into the abyss? Why did he become a gigantic skeleman in the process? Why was he in a cup?
>>
>>337896159

My theory was sound about them being outrider knights, problem is there is only 2 single phantoms and the pair, there are 5 known outrider knights in the game.

Dancer

>>
>>337896062
Heck if anything when you show up he's just defending himself. While "he din du nuffin" isn't exactly accurate pretty close when considering the effect he has on you if say you could just walk past the goblet and up the stairs.
>>
>>337896102
Wait what phantoms?
>>
Not a lore question, but if two allied players cast bountiful sunlight next to each other, does it stack into twice the regen?
>>
Is this Havel the real one?
>>
>>337896412
i'd leave him alone if i could just open that fucking door, seriously. reading all these things about the bracelets now, just remembering him being dragged away and him clawing the ground trying to stop makes me a bit sad for him. damn
>>
>>337896457
Yes. But to actually see the benifit of it you'd both need to have like 80+ vit
>>
Seems like a good place to ask. I've only played DeS and BB to completion. DaS didn't grab me at all. Should I take a chance on it? Will not knowing muh lore negatively effect my experience?
>>
>>337896513

I actually think that the Rock Demon found on top of the Watchdogs tower is the real Havel.
>>
>>337896572
Take a chance on DaS 3 I mean.
>>
>>337896572

DaS3 is closer to DeS in terms of speed. Running speed isn't quite as high but rolling is. Enemies are generally as speedy as BB.

I'd say you'll enjoy this one.

BB and DeS are my favorite in the series/game type and I think DaS3 is pretty damn fun/good. Not perfect, but I think DLC could make it even better. Not at all a bad decision.

BB still tops it for me personally, but I enjoyed my time with this game.
>>
>>337896572
You can play it without knowing anything I didn't beat ds1 either and I basically played both games without really knowing what the hell is going on, but I still enjoyed it.
>>
>>337896572
There are some great lore explorations out there for the other games and while ds3 is still heavily debated in certain context you most certainly will get more out of it if you know the past lore.

Ghey4Gaming does a great fast yet still very detailed explination of DaS but I have yet to find a good one for 2
>>
>>337896572
>>337896643
A friend of mine finished Dark Souls 3 without playing any of the others. He is convinced that the game has no story. Take that as you will.

As far as gameplay goes, Dark Souls 3 takes some elements from both DeS and BB, so if you actually liked those then I think there's a good chance you will enjoy this game as well.
>>
>>337896545
bountiful sunlight only heals like 780 a minute, so you dont actually need absurd health
>>
>>337896643
No, just pirate it and if you like it buy it
>>
Does the world get covered by the Abyss in the second ending?
>>
This franchise and The Witcher 3 are games I feel are going to be ridiculously revered in 10 years time. I honestly can't think of anything else that will be so appreciated. Maybe Skyrim, considering the insane attention it got from casuals on release.

No, the Abyss is Humanity gone wild and corrupt. The world becomes consumed by dark, both literally and figuratively, which is different than the Abyss.

Also has a cool stage and fucks you up the first time to some nice orchestral beats.
>>
>>337896162

Why does it make sense holy fuck
>>
>>337895830
what's the age of the deep?
>>
>>337893865
He has very strong connections to the dark as hinted at by the greatsword of judgement. I like the idea that he's connected to Manus and has accomplished toppling the rule of the old gods once and for all from the inside. He also bears some resemblance to Darklurker, has wings and can split in too.
>>
>>337896287
Cup is presumably the object linking him to the abyss not unlike the broken pendant causing manus to notice us and pull us in in dark souls 1, as for why that's the case I have no idea. Maybe the abyss watchers sealed him and his abyssal corruption in there and then setup camp outside the catacombs to stop anyone from messing with it?

As for why he is huge, he could possibly be part of a race of larger then normal humanoids (some of the other skeletons in the crypt are far too large to be normal humans) or it could just simply be he has a huge soul form conquering many places so he's huge. The other people we've seen who have great and powerful souls have always been at least a little large if not huge (Vendrick, various kings in the DLCs, even Gwyn and company to some extent)
>>

More or less the age of darkness x10. When the abyss finally consumes everything due to people taking too long to link the flame.

Relinking the flame keeps the abyss at bay but take too long to fail to do so = abyss goes om fucking nom nom nom everything.

When humans kindle the flame, the cycle is continued normally and light is re-introduced into the world. When a god kindles the flame, its like a nuke being set off. Remember gwyn? Yhorm is a similar story, and when he kindled the flame he bassically killed everyone in atleast the capital of his kingdom. When he finally awakens, and finds a true champion of embers standing across the room, he leaves storm ruler so he can die valiantly in battle. He never intends for you to lose his fight.

How time travel will work in Dark Souls 3? How we will get to the DLC areas?
>>
>>337911028
Yuria says "forgive me lord Kaathe" when killed. The Grand Archives have statues of the serpent with wings, presumably Frampt, since it doesn't make sense for Kaathe to be pushing for fire linking, or to be controlling 2 factions.

No. The rings are what cause pontiff knights, and outriders, to devolve. Dancer was originally an Irithyllian noble. Wearing the rings for an extended period turned her into dancer. Vordt was a knight, same as the other outriders. You can see they've become more bestial in their movements. The final stage is the crocodogs.

It seems that the soul of cinder is the fusing of every soul that has ever linked the flame, but every time somebody links the flame, the flame itself becomes less powerful, so the features of their soul are not as pronounced. The firat part of the fight is against the chosen undead, the thing that kindled second most powerful flame in history. The second part is against gwyn, the most powerful kindling for the flame in history. Remeber that in dark souls two, the first flame is almost nonexistent, and in 3 you barely even light on fire after linking the flame.
>>
>>337913101
No the first form is everybody. Everyone who ever linked the flame, and all of their fighting prowess conglomerated into one dude.

>>337912975

>>
>>337913313
But think about it. "Everyone" that linked the flame? That means every player that's linked the flame in dark souls. Take all the different builds from all the different players who beat the game, and lump all their characfters together. That's the soul of cinder.

>>
>>337915017

>>
Dark Souls 3 is the eva rebuild of Dark Souls 1. It changes things and events from Dark Souls 1 like Ornstein being an illusion or Gwyndolin still being alive and continues from there.
>>
>>337915214
Untended Graves was Ludleth's firelink.
Lothric Castle was build above it because.
>>
>>337915395
>Gwyndolin still being alive
Gwyndolin was an optional boss so him dying wasn't canon anyways.
>>
>>337915395
Eva Rebuild is a sequel tho
>>
>>337915017
I personally think untended graves is the real firelink (previous flame was not kindled by its would-be champion, gundyr), and ludleth created a fake one, elsewhere, to convince people they should rekindle the flame (the flame seems to never be permanently unkindled because it reignites itself after every age of dark, the firelink firekeeper literally says so, but it gets weaker each time and eventually it will be unable to reignite itself, hence the everlasting age of deep). If you find the eyes in untended graves and take them to ludleth, he hints as much.
>>
>>337896080
that's pretty much how I saw it. A lot points to Vordt and the Dancer having some kind of relationship that Sully disapproved of. They're both seen walking away from Irithyll together, and item descriptions state that they are never far from one another.
>>
>>337915618
Makes more sense than
>the flow of time is convoluted
which they seem to have abandoned since das was over
>>
>>337915395
We knew Anor Londo's Ornstein wasn't the real once since Dark Souls 2. They just changed what became of him
>>
>>337897057
But Humanity is just fragments of the Dark Soul, and the daughters/fragments of Manus in DaS2 are described as being born of the dark. I'm pretty sure the dark and the abyss are the same thing. Plus, the firekeepers are robbed of light and become better hosts to humanity.
>>
I just got into das3 and am wondering: What's the difference between being "unkindled" and just being a hollow like in das1/2
>>
>>337916052
Unkindled are people brought back from the dead to link the flame. Hollowing is a curse of the undead
>>
>>337916052
There isn't one. Yoel proves as much by making you go hollow. It's just that now the flame is weak it needs a REALLY REALLY strong soul to kindle it and people don't think humanity can do that any more.
>>
>>337914892
The only real shortcut is killing the dancer early on. And even then, you can only get up to Dragonslayer Armor anyway.

It makes replays much more repetitive than in DaS1.
>>
>>337916052
The unkindledare essentially double undead. They were revived for the soul purpose of returning the Lord's of cinder to their thrones. Cannonically they are actually very weak and frail.
>>
>>337916208
Yoel gives you the curse
>>
>>337916318
So how can they be lords of cinder if they haven't lit the flame and become part of the soul of cinder? Why did they even abandon their thrones (which represents gathering their souls to light the flame together), and why is ludleth just a nomal, horribly burnt, human but still not apparently lit the flame?

Was it just laziness? Why didn't they just make physical pathways you could walk to get to high wall and undead settlement?
>>
>>337916052
You're burned trash who was dead but got revived in order to return the lord of cinders to their thrones. Also, you do not go hollow, unless you accept the dark sigils and the curse.
>>
>>337916469
>>warp to undead settlement
Gargoyles fly you there. It's like that to remind you the high wall is the wall outside anor londo.
>>
>>337915618
That'd be a way to explain why you have to teleport out of firelink shrine to Lothric.
>>
>>337911028
Lothric was a land of angel worship, the winged knights are meant to replicate angels and there's a miracle found near the end of the game that talks about some woman being visited by angels. One of the only depictions of angels in the actual game is statues near the Dragonslayer Armour bonfire which show primordial serpents with wings.

If you kill Yuria, she calls out to Kaathe. Londor's probably New Londo as well. Also, they probably wanted to avoid any direct connections to DaS2 lore, but the pilgrims are literally Pilgrims of Dark.
>>
>>337915015
He gets his confidence in the final part though, he even ditches his shield for Farron's showing he got more skill.
>>
>>337916536
It's still a warp and they should've had some pathway that goes down to the settlement instead of a lazy cutscene.

And putting all these warps between areas at the beginning of the game makes the entire thing feel extremely disjointed. It's not until road of sacrifices that you even find out that you can walk from one location to another.

It's clear as day that by "everybody" it means all the potential playstyles the player could have had in DaS1. Soul of Cinder used Straightsword, Greatsword, Scimitar, Lance, Pyromancies, Miracles, and Sorceries in the firdt phase. This clearly represents all the possible builds Chosen Undead could have had.

Since the First Flame was discovered the cycle has been Fire Dark Fire Dark. There is no "Deep". This is what I hate most about DaS3 story wise, the previpus games were dealing with two parts of a cycle and now suddenly Miyazaki throws in this "Deep" bullshit. It seems like Miyazaki just really wanted to make Aldrich a super important character for no reason.
>>
>>337921756
Fire Dark Fire Dark, but every fire is weaker than the last, proven by the pus of man abominations of humanity getting wilder and wilder. When it eventually gets so weak it can't reignite itself to create another age of fire (the firekeeper literally says when you put the first flame out that eventually it will reignite itself from nothing), we get the end of flame, the age of deep. That's the real endgame, where there is no fire at all, ever.

>>337921946
The end of Flame is Dark. What the fuck are you even on about. The First Flame goes out and the Age of Dark happens, the First Flame ignites again bringing another Age of Fire. This is the cycle. There is no "Deep".

He's the king of Lothric.
One day he walks into the grand archives, and the sages there tell him all about the bitch-boy Seathe.
He then decides "I wanna be a dragon."
And then he became a dragon.
He also lost his mind, did something to prince Lothric to make him 'cursed,' and then hs wife left him and possibly took their last son Ocelotte with her.
Ocelotte is the baby noises you hear in the fight, but most likely, the noise is all just bullshit or inside Ocerios' head because he's gone batshit.

>>
>>337922817
Is he actually holding his invisible baby? You can hear a baby's cry during the fight.
>>
>>337922174
So let's go off that.

Dark Souls 1 was all about prolonging the Age of Fire by Linking the First Flame to drive away the Abyss. A possible ending was to NOT Link the First Flame and usher in the Age of Dark, the Age of Humans. This was the central theme of Dark Souls, Link the First Flame or let it die to bring in the Age of Dark. The Age of Dark is what Gwyn feared, which is why he gave his Lordsoul to Link the First Flame.

After what may be centuries of Rekindling, the process of Rekindling is getting weaker. Each Rekindling of the First Flame is less and less powerful, the First Flame is fading. When the First Flame fades the Age of Dark will happen, a Dark Lord will rise. You could even say the Lord of Hollows is the Dark Lord ending of Dark Souls 3. The Firekeeper even says in the Darkness she sees (which is a different Darkness than having no eyes, the Age of Dark) tiny flames dancing on the edge, she literally tells you the First Flame can reignite itself.

Please tell me where this useless pile of shit Aldrich and his "Age of Deep" fit into all of this. There is no Age of Deep, Miyazaki just threw in some half-assed ideas to make Aldrich some super special NPC, he was so super special that only he could see the Age of Deep.

There is no Deep, there is only the First Flame and the Age of Dark. And possibly the Abyss as well.
>>
>>337923339
You can just not do ng+ and stay in that playthrough forever.
>>
>>337922203
I think he was, at least in some way, or perhaps a hybrid.

I went over in my post about how I thought it's possible that the giants themselves in dark souls 2 are effectively "hollowed", this itself has some weight to it, as the item Vendrick stole from the giants is implied to be the thone of want, or in some ways the kiln, as they lack this item, and rekindle the flame, they eventually hollow, their faces sinking inwards to represent this before they root and become trees, which would explain the similarity between the hollowed pilgrims of the hollowed kindgom, londor eventually becoming growing what look like "branches" and transforming into pilgrim butterflies.

Pontiff Sulayvahn himself, who discovered yhorm's ruined profane capital beneath irithyll's ice, and by extension, the profane flame, grows similar structure in his fight, he is also implied to be in a state of hollowing by taking more damage from weapons that are effective against hollows.

Yhorm's room has a message "Only a storm can fell a greatwood.", and you then have to wonder why they would directly compare yhorm to a tree like structure.
>>
>>337923485
Isn't the deep another name for the abyss?
>>
>>337922964
There's sound effects for it and he's has his hands in a holding position until he slams them on the ground at half health
>>
>>337896336

The only thing they'd have to fix is your eyes, they are in the pit of hollows, which means "grandad" just got a tree dropped on his ass, that's why he is in the "crushed to death" pose instead of the lay down emote.
>>
>>337923701

>>
>>337923701

Holy shit, I forgot about that.
>>
>>337912812
The dark, but slightly different. It's the dark after people started screwing around with it and experimented with causing some terrifying things.

The abyss is the reflection of the nature of mankind. Most of the abyssal magic is based on emotion and really isn't evil in nature, but is a reaction to being attacked. It's more akin to a dog that was beaten for most of it's life, it'll fuck you up because it was nurtured into being an asshole, but still there is some good.

The deep is literally aldrich's master plan

>aldrich covenant
>aldrich was a high ranking saint, presumably of the same religion of gwynevere, due to rosaria's implied relationship with gwynevere and the archdeacons involvement with rosaria's fingers as a point of worship
>at some point, on his human eating exploits, aldrich sat down, started to have a nice long think, and had a dream about a great sea
>eating more humans he eventually softened and turned into the sludge you know and love now, eventually linking the flame for whatever reason
>the religion of the deep was set up around him and he was laid to rest in his grave
>as ludleth commands the firekeeper to ring the bell of awakening, the lords of cinder reemerge and aldrich enacts his master plan
>aldrich now believes that to act as a catalyst, devouring the gods will allow him to achieve the world of deep sea even faster
>using the religion of the deep and pontiff sulayvahn's connections he runs off to irithyll, where sullyvahn is scared as fuck, and remembers that he locked the sickly gwyndolin away in the cathedral, knowing aldrich wants gods and lots of them, he directs aldrich to gwyndolin
>the deep sea
>water
>the main ranking up item is human dregs, described as the "heaviest thing in the human body", (Water), and will sink to the lowest depths imaginable, you give these to one of the archdeacons to rank up, and the archdeacons are a pretty big deal, but whats more noticeable is that the area you give them to him is literally called the "Water reserve", a place where he would coalesce human dregs
>human dregs themselves are awarded for killing trespassers, and look literally like water

Soul Geyser description in dark souls 2:

"This blasphemous spell is a family heirloom of Lord Aldia's. It was designed to pummel foes until its power is entirely exhausted.""

These spells have the same name in the japanese translation

I thought Aldrich's "Age of the Deep Sea" was to the Age of Dark what Dark Souls 3 is to the Age of Fire.

Like in Dark Souls 3 the Age of Fire has been extended to the point everything is fucked up and going to shit, the sun is literally melting away, people are turning into trees, the black things, etc.

The Age of the Deep Sea would be what would happen after an Age of Dark had gone on for a fuckload of time, when all the crazier abyss shit seeped through completely and the vast amounts of dead dudes coalesced through their dregs to form an expanding ocean.

Pic related, because Arch Trees never die. The ocean would eventually swallow everything but the the trees, wiping out humanity, and leaving only dragons. Returning the world to how it was before the Age of Flame ever began.

A lot of people thin that it's from the past. Ludleth's cycle to be specific. Gundyr failed and Ludleth linked the fire out of duty and because of his fire keeper, whom he cared for.

The profane capital needed to be relatively near to irithyll because in the games various lore pieces, pontiff is explicitly told as having discoevered the capital under iritiyhll's ice, and there is far too much importance on the profane flame and the abyss involvement for this to have been sacrificed.

What they should have instead done, is making irithyll dungeon longer on a horizontal and vertical measure, and profane capital larger.

Instead of fighting yhorm as soon as you enter profane capital's large entrance, it should be a lead into a giant underground temple, which feels like it's made for giants and the humans yhorm ruled over.

They should have put a boss in the room you fight yhorm, and kept yhorm's room further inwards.

Unfortunately, development schedules for these games are limited, and for me, it seems like the same issue that prevented bloodborne from having an actual underground labyrinthe with eldritch shit in it, rather than just shitty chalices.

The Deep is people screwing around with the Dark and basically how they have confused the Dark and the Abyss, it's a mixture of both.

Dsfix should resolve your problems with 1. Just make sure you read the readme and edit the configuration file appropriately as it's not set to do 60 fps at 1080 out of the box. Disable the in game AA as well to avoid crashes.

If you own the steam version you can upgrade to scholar for less than buying it outright. Not sure about xbox or playstation.

I'd expect 30-50 hours for each depending on how much time you spend doing pvp/coop/exploring.

Fivefinger Delta is a farmer kingdom. It's probably like Vietnam.

Now I'm just imagining an Astora War against Fivefinger Delta, in which Astora lost and make constant plays about it and are very anti war. Elite Knight Warriors ride griffons that blast Ride of the Valkyries while pyro nuking poor farmer villages.

Item descriptions state Anri doesn't actually hail from Astora but adopted the homeland due to the legends tied to it. All signs point to Astora being long dead at this point as well.

What's the difference between dark and abyss though? Can someone give it to me in layman's terms? Cuz as far as I can see there's not really a difference. Is it like the abyss is the physical darkness and the dark is just the absence of light?

It really dosn't seem like it dose.
It has tons-o-lore, backstory, and seing the ends of characters. The NOW story of the player characters is kinda unimportant.
The first game had your character do a thing which did nothing, second game had you sit in a chair, 3rd game has you finding ash and putting it on thrones.

This, it seems to me, is more about lore hunting than in the now story.
Maybe in the fourth game an explosion of souls will happen and bring back a lot of characters and bosses.

Because a lot of people are dead in the 3rd game....like all of them.

King lothric is Oceiros, it's a family name. Prince Lothric is the boss and inherited the name because he, not Lorian or Ocelotte, was supposed to link the fire.

He's still prince because his dad is alive.
>>
>>337927163
Lothric did NOT link the fire. Everything that happens is Dark Souls 3 is because Lothric simply refused to become a lord of cinder like he was supposed to and instread cloistered himself in the archive waiting for the fire to fade out.

Yeah but the grand archives and the prince doubt the linking don't they? So it'd make sense that Kaathe would be working behind the scenes in the Archives to get everyone thinking linking is bad.

She does. Plus, she wasn't undead in Dark Souls 1 so she could have just gone back to Catarina and started a family.

The talk of scholar being the reason for doubting the linking points way more strongly towards Aldia.

If it was a snake that made Prince Twink give up on linking the fire, it's unlikely it's the same one whom statues are all over the place, as there would be no logical reason to build statues for character like that.

Linking the flame is retard end. You don't do anything but burn yourself like a dumbass. The age of fire doesn't work.
Lord of Hollows is I want to be the smartest person in the world end, even if it means dumbing everyone around you down. Congrats, you've made everyone an ugly zombie thing that shambles around except for like 4 people. Now instead of most of everything being shit, everything is shit.

>>337932664
I think gwyndolin was very obviously in control of anor londo and irithyll by extension for a good amount of time.

He then became sickly and weak.

Pontiff's greatsword of judgement states:

"A ceremonial sword, held in Pontiff Sulyvahn's left hand, respresenting the judgment of the moon, but with magic far closer to sorcery than any existing lunar power. Its dark blue hues, deeper than the darkest moon, reflect sorcerer Sulyvahn's true nature"

So what this means is that pontiff was probably a high ranking member under gwyndolin before usurping him, his allied nature with the religion of the deep for whatever reason meant that he would eventually allow aldrich access to consume gwyndolin.

Pontiff Sulayvahn himself is very obviously corrupted by the profane flame, and abyss, as he grows the pilgrim like wings.

Irithyll having photos of the kiln, nashandra etc, ties in with yhorm the giant's ds2 connections, pontiff discovering the flame at the profane capital, and also the drang warriors in anor londo.

It seems to me that there might be incentive somewhere for pontiff and aldrich to have conspired, but for what reason I'm not sure.

Lothric was already bestowed title of "Lord of Cinder" because it was expected of him to link the fire, then supposedly Aldia showed up and persuaded him otherwise.

Aldrich was "made" a Lord of Cinder, whatever that means. So he may or may not have linkedt he flame. Since he seemed more interested in bringing about the age of The Deep, I doubt he actually linked the flame himself, but that's just speculation.

Abyss Watchers retain their human appearance without hollowing, but they most likely linked the fire as a group, sharing the title of "Lord of Cinder" in their wolf blood.

Yhorm definitely linked the fire, as we know his soul was so powerful that when he chose to link the flame, the resulting bust of fire ended up destroying his entire city and burning everyone in it to a crisp.

Anyway, I think it's safe to say, being a "Lord of Cinder" isn't something as simple as "Someone who linked the fire" any more.

Might as well ask here:

I've been playing the Dark Souls games, just got done with 2. Reckon I should jump into 3 or wait for a definitive edition like Prepare to die and Scholar of the first sin? I kinda don't want to wait but also don't want to play an incomplete version of the game.
