Prices on keys are going up. Cheapest I see is $38 on CDkeys
>>337530234
Because I wasn't talking about how many employees they have. Their innovators like Carmack and Romero are long gone and they rarely release anything.
>>337530234
Id started with 5 guys in their moms garage writing code dedicatedly 24/7 because they loved coding. John Carmack was the main guy. None of these people work for id now.

and yet they just made a game better than RAGE and Doom 3

Yep, can confirm CDkeys is the cheapest.

prices are always really cheap prior to release and then like two days after it goes up to like $45 and stays there for months.
I always get mad when I don't preorder a game I want from a key site.

Which is exactly why I said I'm incredibly impressed despite their decline since the 90s, dumbass.
>>337530053
As someone who played a lot of Doom 1 and 2 in their childhood, I think it's great. It's simple, mindless, fast, chaotic fun, just like the original 2.
I didn't enjoy 3 and I'm glad they didn't go back to that shit.
>>337529929
I'm tempted to red box it on ps4 this weekend.
Which sucks because PC seems to be the only way to go with this one. But the MP holds 0 interest for me and 60$ for i'm guessing 6 hour campaign doesn't seem worth it.

>>337532382
Has weapon wheel (at least on consoles) but is far faster than the gameplay trailers show. You die pretty quickly in this game, and have to be moving constantly.
>>337532505
That sounds promising. Damn trailer lacked any sense of tension or excitement so the gameplay looked shit, but I got the impression it was just showing off graphics not the game.

repostan review for those curious about the game
1/2
For anyone generally interested in possibly picking up the game, I'll give you an unbiased rundown of my personal experience with the game. I'm not a huge doom fan, but I really enjoy 1 and 2, and Doom 3 was enjoyable enough as a survival horror game for the time, but not as a doom game.
To start, I didn't play the multiplayer very much, as I don't get a doom game to play the multiplayer. From the bit I played, it's fun, and I enjoyed the movement/map design. It's not quite an arena shooter, and not quite the generic fps of today, but something of an inbetween. I find it fun enough to where I'll probably sink more time into it occasionally, all in all it's not that bad.
Heading onto the campaign/gameplay, I found myself happy with the end results. I've beaten ultra-violence, and I'm starting nightmare now. When it comes to story elements, the game doesn't really bother with cutscenes. They're rare two-minute affairs, and not common enough to be much a bother, especially since they're over so fast. The plot is as basic as it gets, but between the overall plot and the surprising amount of lore available to read, people who care will find themselves satisfied, while people who don't won't be bothered by what's there, as it won't be a distraction. The ending is total shit though, but whatever. The gunplay is tight and satisfying, and overall movement at the basic level is fairly quick. The upgrades available help spice up your weapons, keeping them interesting (though upgrades range from bland to really cool). The armor upgrades, essentially perks, offer decent variety, but by about midgame, you can upgrade your mobility to really start zipping around.
>>337532259
>>337535728
2/2, sorry mates my writing a shit and I ramble on.
The maps are large, and I really enjoyed the emphasis on vertical elements during some sections of combat. The chainsaw is pretty novel in how its used, and due to its system, can't be spammed, so the animations won't be happening nearly enough to get annoying. Glory kills as a mechanic can feel a bit stiff, but not horrible, but with upgrades speeding them up the problem goes away pretty quickly. I was surprised by how tricky a fair few of the secrets actually were, and as a whole, they make TNO's look like shit, which was a gripe I had with that game. Enemy AI ranged from retarded to clever, but it seems to improve a lot stepping into nightmare. They have these portals throughout the levels which are basically challenges ala devil may cry, and while they stutter the game's pacing, they're interesting and varied enough to be enjoyable.
Overall, it's much better than Doom 3, a different beast than the originals, but much better than I thought it would ever be. I was really happy with the final product. You can tell the game has a lot of TLC put into it, and in the age where we're starved of good FPS games, it's worth a pickup. If you liked shadow warrior 2013, you'll probably love this one, I found they played pretty similarly.
8.25/10, it's bretty gud. It's consistently fun enough to where I'll probably be replaying it for a long while. Ask me whatever if you've got any specific questions, I probably didn't cover a lot.
>>337530926
I like that the game basically went with the story/tone of Doom 3, but the protagonist of Doom/Doom 2. Really shows how fucking silly it is to take Doom seriously at all.
Plus, the entire concept of Doom Guy being awoken from deep slumber, bedroom filled with demons, and finding out mankind royally fucked up and it is now entirely up to him to clean this shit up again is absolutely straight Doom comic levels of absurdity.
>>337535814
Is it challenging
>>337536008
nightmare is the challenge I was looking for. Ultra nightmare looks to be a lot of fun, since hardcore was a blast in DS2.
>>337536210
what did you think of the music? supposedly the KI guy worked on it.
>>337536210
does it look like it will be entertaining for multiple playthroughs
>>337535814
I love the art style of doom and I love sludge metal. Was paying 60 bucks for this game a bad idea?
>>337536429
I love it, Mick Gordon tunes are hype. Bass blasts just like in KI and TNO. If industrial isn't your thing, I can see it getting annoying though.
doom is goty
Oh, this really uses Denuvo? So it won't be pirated?
>>337536584
Not that anon, but there are lots of secrets and looping paths in each area.
My best description of the game is it's sort of like the parkour races from dying light, where you had to plan your route out in advance, but it's the frantic shooting of serious sam. So think serious sam while trying to move through vertical obstacles extremely quickly.
Basically marketers on suicide watch. Game is great. 1-9 is your weapon select.
>>337536584
Considering I think the game got truly great when you got mostly upgraded and entered FAST, it lends itself better to multiple playthroughs. Being able to NG+ the highest difficulties and maintain the fast from the start means I'll have more fun replaying it than the first run. I think the gameplay is good enough to hold up, but honestly that question'll vary based on your personal view after playing.
>>337536641
Sounds like you'll dig it then, assuming you're not strapped for cash. I think its worth the money, but for people on the edge, pirating it first is probably the smart option.
It saddens me /v/ wants to shit on this game so much.
I bought it with a completely open mind, obviously skeptical because it's a Bethesda published game and id software is as much id as modern Bioware is Bioware but it's actually pretty damn impressive.
As with any game /v/ won't talk about it reasonably one or two years down the line when the fate of the game is already sealed.
Also this is coming from someone who absolutely loves every doom game for their own reasons, so I guess I'm not pure enough of a fanboy for some of you people but that shit doesn't matter to me.
what's the fucking point of these threads, there's only marketers discussing with shills
I wish I could pirate this.
I don't want to pay money for something which from everything I've seen looks like trash, sans some peoples opinions and a single gameplay demo. Two hours is not enough time to get a grasp of the game, especially when you have to unlock the perks to make it fast and seemingly enjoyable.
Fuck me though, am I starved for a decent shooter, and seeing some 'reviews' here are making it seem like it will at least scratch my itch. But that's not worth 40 USD as an Ausfag.
It would be amazing with no fucking glory kills, but it's still pretty good. Gameplay and level design is good.
>>337537414
What's sad is there's actual newfags who genuinely believe this, and not that in reality it's 98% bait and 2 percent marketers and shills.
>>337537867
I think you can turn those off.
Am I the only one that kinda gets a Terminator feel from the pause music?
>>337537996
Sadly nah, you can only turn off the visual indicator, which is alright.
You can ignore them though.
For $32 I would say it was worth the money for SP alone. MP is still kind of trash, but I'm going to fuck around with the snapmap system a bit and see what can be done.
>>337538064
I've found that once I got the Heavy Assault Rifle that the weaker enemies started dying too fast for me to even get prompted to do them
/v/'s just desperate for a reason to complain
shits fun. doesn't feel like doom at all but I like it. feels like someone made a really good Doom total conversion mod for Halo and added progression and more actiony shit.

>>337538435
I do have an opinion, which is "the game is not worth the amount of money being charged, from what I have seen and heard, and due to not being able to try it myself, will not spend money otherwise."
To be fair though, if I could pirate this, I probably wouldn't buy it anyway, since the multiplayer in the beta was complete garbage, albeit super easy to shit on kids. Also, free games.

The fact that they saved the good glory kills for when you have Berserk is great
>>337537291
/v/ shits on any game with denuvo because none of them played it. 2 hours into the game and I got bored of chaining 1 second invincible glorykills through hordes of enemies that shit healthkits and stagger helplessly. Even if you turn it off, the entire game is designed around "press f to kill."
I'm enjoying it enough that I've replayed the first level twice to dig around for secrets.
Doom and deus ex are my favorite games of all time and so far it's 1 for 2 when it comes to what I expect from a good revival. Granted there's some changes I could do without but not everything has to be a carbon copy of the source material.
It really reminds me of how human revolution was treated prior and post release.
Now here's to hoping mankind divided is good.
This game is basically a remake of doom 3 and putting it in the same lineage of 1,2, and 64. It is Doom 3 for all I care.
Looks pretty good. Might even be a DXHR situation.
My only real problem is that they insisted on calling it Doom rather than Doom 4. That shit is beyond obnoxious.
>>337540664
>wanting them to acknowledge Doom 3
>>337540732
I want them to acknowledge Doom 1 already existing.
Besides, it's not like Doom 2 was much good either. Some of the nastiest level design I've seen in a 2.5D shooter
>>337540732
Well, if you count Doom 64 as the "real" Doom 3 this basically is Doom 4.
I'm assuming this will sell well so where do they go from here?

>>337540791

>>337540953
I'm expecting a direct sequel to this game assuming good sales sooner rather than later. That or an xpac/standalone.
>>337541015
It's fine as-is, some changes are to be expected.
>>337541075
So it's a soft de-boot.
That's fine, but the actual reboot was a numerical title. This isn't about acknowledgement, it's that there's already another game in the same series called Doom and this makes it deliberately annoying.
What is it with companies doing these harsh review embargoes, all it does is make me nervous. Especially when you can just pump out a halfway decent game and it'll get at least one 9/10 these days
Like seriously that only makes it look shady and makes me doubt the game if the company doesn't have faith in their product.
Also game's pretty good, but I really hope this doesn't turn into some yearly franchise thing where they try to milk it.

I got real sceptical when I heard that there were no review copies of the game. But I decided too buy the game based on what they had already showed in the gameplay trailers/videos and the decent amount of positive feedback that was on steam and other websites.
Here is the rundown on what a random anon thinks of the game so far.
Price: 40€
Gametime: 3 hours so far.
Doom fanboy status: Played 1-3 (4), 64, and some custom WADs like Brutal Doom and the like.
>Multiplayer is complete trash.
>Like seriously, don't even bother.
>Plays like Brutal Doom if you would have turned up the execution mechanic by 300% and shortened the animations down too 1-2 sec.
>Snapmap is extremely limited if compared with what you were able to do with the older games.
>Still fun too fuck around with though, reminds me alot of the Timesplitters editor in some ways.
>The upgrade system feels weirdly out of place, nothing gamebreaking though.
>The level design is TOP DOG if you compare it with any modern shooter that has been released in the past 5 years.
>It's not as good if you compare it with the originals, too many corridors that feels way too long and claustrophobic.
>The level designers likes to lock you into combat arenas akin to DMC 1, 3 and 4.
>The combat starts too feel a bit ''samey'' after the first 2-3 hours.
>Not nearly as many ''forced'' cutscenes as some anons have said (so far).
>Most of them are, at most, 15-25 sec long aswell.
>Handholding
>Handholding
>Handholding
>Luckily, you can turn most of that shit off in the options menu.
>The graphics are very, good.
>Could pass the graphics off as a late last gen AAA with every setting turned down to the lowest possible setting.
>Still looks a bit muddy thanks to their color choices though.
>Music is nothing special.
>Story is nothing special.
I was expecting the worst since it is a Bethesda game, but so far it's a surprisingly good game.
Not as good as the originals, but a 7/10 at the very least. (not counting MP)
>>337541563

Many times the disc doesn't even contain the game, just an exe for steam and a cd key inside the cover.

I like it.
I respect the original Doom, don't get the hype behind it, though.
Doom 3 was competent, but I can see how its "not Doom"
DOOM is definitely Doom.

I do not know what is worse that you are referencing a forced fad from when most of /v/ was on elementary, the fact it has been so long I can feel bad about it, or that I thought ytmnd was funny at one time.
Not Even Epic Music could cheer me up.
can we add this to the list of good games with massively disappointing sound tracks? i mean what even is thatr menu music? did someone strum a guitar a few times and just loop it?
>>337547727
I haven't heard the music in the full game yet, but the menu music for the alpha sounded like a robot farting.
Is it just me or is the MP worse than in the beta? Freezes all the time for me now and I think the mouse input actually got worse.

It's in the style of classic FPS like the original DOOM and quake.
There was no reloading in those games, you just accumulated more ammo.
>>337549050
wait are you baiting by throwing a "fit" about punching the turkey? in a game where you litterally blow demons to bits?
>>337549008
Ahh. This game might have that but I was playing OnSlaught, which is like a Doom tower defense style game, where you defend your area against waves of demons.
What are the upgrades for the scope for the Heavy Ass Rifle? I went with micro missiles like everyone else and I can't imagine what the upgrades and mastery are for the other mod.

Finished the game on Nightmare for my first run because I'm a fucking masochist.
Shield guys are probably the most obnoxious enemy in the game early on, but once you get the rocket launcher remote det they're pretty trivial unless you round the corner into one.
Remote det rocket launcher is actually pretty overpowered with the mastery upgrade, two shots cacodemons and revenants and can instagib clusters of lower-tier mooks
>>337549809
The first Hell Baron you'll encounter is fighting hordes of imps and unwillings. Also encountered 2 revenant fucking up a mancubus. Mancubus can't do shit against em.

What a joke. Bethesda's marketing staff should be fired asap. The coverage for this game has been terrible, trailers sucked, footage sucked except for a lowres nvidia stream. And on top of that there was no review copy sent + denuvo was added as the last moment. Everything pointed to a disaster.
The game is amazing and it's the most fun i had in a sp campaign since doom1 & rtcw.

It's lower pressure than Earth, but not that low. The decompression isn't explosive.

I feel it the order goes:
Doom 1 --> Doom 2 --> Doom 64 --> DOOM
The reason being is in Doom 64 the ending is the Doom guy stays in hell to stop demons from exiting hell, yet they finally got him and trapped him before he wiped out the whole hell plain. Because the way the Doom guy acts is if he is familiar with the demons and just wants them dead.

Source as an engine or specific source games?
>>337536429
Different guy here:
The sounds are kinda fucked, some times you will hear a banging but it's some retarded physics smashing along REALLY fucking loud but it'll be at a distance, that shit happened too often and was annoying as fuck.
The metal music is ok, kinda wish they did a fucking REMIX of all the old tracks, the music people do enjoy but I found that to be inappropriate in some spots, there will be metal music blasting away when you have 1 shitty demon hiding away.
Hurt me plenty was a comfy difficulty, I've tried ULTRA NIGHTMARE, and got my shit shrekt, purely because I didn't notice when I got hit to health manage, I guess I'll be checking it out.
I don't like the fact you're force to do the puzzles and collect items on ultra nightmare, you can't really avoid them because they upgrade your armor.
It does feel like an 8/10 game though, it's not bad, but a few things bother me like the fucking sound issues, I don't know why a fucked physic item is loud as fuck, it's really that bad, but not enough to taint the game.
It feels like a "bethesda" game because you see resemblance of fallout, I'm surprised there wasn't a "main hub then unlock these places" type of deal, you do notice they actually TRIED to do something different, it still feels they need to get use to the genre and do less RPG shit and more shooty shooty.
There's minimal cut scenes and the pace can feel like you're walking sometimes, there's a few spots I noticed where I felt SLOW AS FUCK HOLY SHIT AM I WALKING? I expect to go sanic fast tho.
>>337560862

>>337560916
I just can't think of many source games that a big modding scene.
I know people will disagree, but I don't see how a linear singleplayer game like Doom could keep a decent modding community. The community will have moved on within a few months to the next big game.
If it had longevity as a MP game or some giant RPG, then sure. But it needs something to keep a playerbase around until then and Dooms MP is so slack that nobody is going to bother with it. It's a game people are going to pick up for 10-15 hours as a SP experience then move on with.
I'd rather id release a dev kit for id tech 5, but even then the thing with modern modding scenes is that they're so insanely concentrated in a few communities.
>>337560905
Also I failed to mention there's filters for the graphics, there's "greyish" (forgot the name), cinematic and default, I played on greyish because it's not as colourful, the colours get washed out.
Also playing on 4k but I can't stay at 60fps so there's an option called "resolution scaling" you CAN'T just resize the resolution because it fucks up and doesn't actually make it 1080p you see your desktop and shit.
Also, using mouse wheel makes your desktop scroll if you have a window behind it open.

>>337560936
>neo-id managed to make a better modern doom game than carmack
Neo-id actually focused on gameplay. Doom3 always felt like a tech demo, because it didn't revolutionize anything that's actually relevant to gameplay. Keen, Wolfenstein, Doom and Quake did. All of id's titles have introduced something new in tech and gameplay, except Doom3. All it had was full dynamic lighting using shadow mesh stencil rendering and ingame flash-based touchscreens.

From someone that owns it, yes.
Game is awesome.
Only complaint is that I feel like a lot of secrets are basically needed because they have upgrade points and are easily missed. Super Shotgun combined with rapid jumpstrafing makes me happy.
Best game I've actually paid for in awhile.
>>337561282
>Is there any actual level design, or is it just arenas connected by hallways?
It's arenas connected by varying degrees of sprawling complexes with key-based linear and exploration based nonlinear progression and many secret areas. In other words, it's Doom except you can explore vertically by jumping and climbing.
There are some ridiculous "secrets" though. Once I turned right in a passage and after two steps it just said "secret found". It was in no way hidden. Or maybe there was a door that I didn't know I opened somewhere.-Exactly like classic Doom. Huh.
Doom is most fun I had in singleplayer in years. Bulletstorm was previous best modern singleplayer game for me, Doom exceeded it in every aspect.
Story is also very interesting and finally explains why the fuck demons use firearms and have machinery built into them. Singleplayer GOTY without a doubt.

That is one of the most important aspects of classic shooter design. You are forced to rely on exploration because the base level might not have what you need to survive. Can't beat a horde of enemies? Well, you may have missed the powerful weapon hidden in a secret area in the previous level. Not enough armor? You just walked underneath a pack. Just find a way up there.

I was thinking this, I agree with you, they would have to extend out the maps and make the areas larger to cater for the speed.
Good game though, I'll be playing it off and on, maybe when I get a 1080 and a 1440p 144hz monitor will feel faster, because my rig is 3 years old and running 4k is a bitch, even with low and resolution scaling.

>>337562663

Chainsaw is basically there to scratch that massacre itch, too bad you can use it once or twice, depending on the demon.
BFG destroys everything, 3 shots felt like a lot even on ultra-violence, especially since you almost always get 1 shot per arena

What do you turn off? I'm thinking of turning off the objective markers too because what you need to interact with is always glowy anyway.

That's exactly what monster boxes in classic Dooms have been. And I'd argue that 3-texture rectangular hallways are more bland than 18-shader parallax mapped object- and decal filled hallways.
That's not just nostalgia goggles. That's downright doublethink.

HUD and interaction prompts are the only thing you actually need. The levels aren't exactly linear but you can easily find your objective without pic related. The obnoxious glorykill highlight is the first to go. It's not rocket science to be able to recognize staggered enemies.

>>337565063
The subject was secrets, and even monster boxes have nothing to do with mazes. The secrets in D44M are hidden things that you need to find by exploring vertically and in obscured areas that are easily missed, or by backtracking to newly unlocked areas. I think that way of doing things is better than "Hiding a secret passage behind a solid wall that Doomguy opens by activating it in a nondescript way". Actually, it's the Quake style of doing things. You couldn't hide secrets in Quake by having interactable walls because the game has no interaction button.
Speaking of mazes... What good is a maze anyway when you have a map that fills in automatically as you go through the maze? It's not like you can get lost in it like in The Sword in Thief The Dark Project.
Is there monster infighting in this game?
