Do I play Underrail or Wasteland 2?

Which is the better game? Which is the better Fallout 2 sequel?
>>
>>337378790
I didn't enjoy the combat in WL2 when it came out, there was next to no variety in combat skills and the AI was dumb as shit running into my bullets, I eventually dropped it.
It was a huge deal for me since there was LOTS of combat.
Did they fix it in the DC?

I highly enjoyed Underrail's combat however, played as melee cut-throat PSI guy.
Exploration was nice too, the lack of a map added to the experience since I was getting lost and started to draw my own map on a piece of paper.
>>
They're both fine. Wasteland 2 for better writing, UnderRail for better start-to-middle combat. I say this because late game becomes boring as fuck.

Wasteland 2 suffers from stilted character progression while UnderRail has it in spades. If you're hoping for Fallout 2 levels of RP'ing though then you're shit out of luck. UnderRail is kinda like Diablo-lite in that regard.
>>
Dunno about wasteland but underrail was really focused on combat and exploration. There's not a lot of dialogue or anything. It's also autistically difficult, there's no room to fuck around if you don't want your ass handed to you
>>
>>337378790
Age of Decadence
>>
wasteland 2 is pretty crappy, neither are as good as fallout 2 but I would go for underrail instead
>>
>>337382995
go away bad game

I enjoyed both, though I never finished Underrail
Otherwise you can always go with Divinity: OS for a good turn based RPG.
>>
>>337378790
underrail is an incredibly fun and well-paced game until you get to the end-area and then it stops you dead in your tracks. at this point unless your build is picture-perfect you're better off starting the game from scratch and minmaxing as hard as your inner munchkin will let you. the story also follows the difficulty cliff and goes from a slowly escalating narrative about the tensions surrounding the communities and politics of the underrail, to E.Y.E-tier fucking mental turned up to 11. A good game if you're into a hardcore mindfuck that is also a hardcore assfuck. otherwise pass, you'll only be disappointed and frustrated.
>>
>>337378790
Underrail.
>>
>>337384018
>Bad game

Son, sit down on pappys lap her so he can tell you why you're wrong.

Age of Decadence has everything you need in a proper RPG. It has dialogue options out the ass for RPing, combat (Albeit hard to get used to) is actually very well done and has a pretty decent amount of depth when you start realizing how different weapons handle and how they will alter your strategy, not to mention the various moves they give you and how they interact with people in different types of armor. There are 9 factions, and about 15 different endings. You can literally switch sides at most points in the game if you feel like being a backstabbing traitor. Age of Decadence is one of the best old school RPG's on the market currently.

Now, to OP's question, they're both good games depending on what you're looking for. As people have said, Under is a lot more mechanically focused on adventure and combat, but W2 has more Roleplaying and dialogue. They're both good games, I would play them both.
>>
>>337384018
>bad
absolute plebeian

>>337384736
C&C is not a requirement for RPGs but is nice to have when it's well done.
>>
>>337379938
Having played DC, it's a lot more palatable thanks to some UI improvements. There's still a LOT of combat though.

>>337378790
Wasteland 2 is extremely janky OP, from its graphics to gameplay to story, but it's got its charm in places. It was just interesting enough to carry me through its 50 hour campaign. Its no classic though.
>>
>>337378790
Both.

Underrail is better and a better Fallout 2 sequel. It's what Fallout 3 should have been.
>>
>>337385019
That's a fair point, I suppose it boils down to what you're truly looking for in an RPG. I enjoy my choices coming back to bite me in the ass because it makes me wonder how things could have gone differently, and that makes me want to play again, but in a different way, with a different build. As such, when I do look for a good RPG I try to find ones that have choices and consequences as often as possible.
>>
Wasteland 2 is fucking awful

>melee enemies have 9999999999999999999999999999 movement points
>run across the map and attack multiple times, kill two of your soldiers in one turn

I had to cheat to escape that glitched bullshit. Got to the next area and my sniper was hit in the head from across the map by a dude with a shitty pistol. Instantly killed. Fuck this game.

holy shit a thread mentioning underrail.

I personally preferred underrail. It was challenging the whole time and it always felt like an achievement when you finally got past an area/killed an enemy. The Story and lore behind underrail is also really good.

Wasteland 2 is pretty good, but much easier with a worse story and cringy voice-actors. Still a fun game though.

>holy shit a thread mentioning underrail.
We used to have them daily around the time of release.
>>
Are any of them better than Fallout 2?
>>
>>337385336
I agree with those 2 points.

Enemies can move way too much per turn and sniper rifles have laughtably short range.
>>
>>337385603
Well underrail has better combat and arguably better exploration.

Both games suck tbqh. Wasteland 2 skirts by only on its setting, but it lacks any and all character depth that Underrail has

Wasteland 2 has generally better writing and a lot of the jankyness and bugs that were present in it on launch I didn't notice in the Directors Cut. The combat is alright at first but it gets kind of stale. A lot of the areas aren't vertical enough to make the combat interesting. Still good enough to warrant playing.

Underrail has mediocre to awful writing but great character customization, good combat (until the end of the game), and is fun to explore. Its closer to Fallout 2 than Wasteland 2.

Not him, but I'd say Underrail's problem is that it lacks any and all charm that FO1/FO2 had. It's how I'd imagine Ulillillia would write an RPG
>>
>>337386297
the stroycraft and worldbuilding itself is pretty good, but the actual dialogue and narration is verbose, littered with typos, mistranslations and awful choice in words.
>>
>>337386297
The translation is not the greatest, lacks flavour as a result, as is purely functional in getting its point across. The setting is usually interesting enough to carry it, but the writing itself could often pass for machine translation.

Underrail is an amazing game.

Also, I disagree with >>337384253. The final area's biggest problem is hardly that it's impossible for certain builds, it's basically the exact opposite. Literally any build can do that area without any issues whatsoever, and I mean it. Even if you maxed Persuasion/Intimidation/Mercantile every level that place is a cake walk. The final boss can be near impossible for a few builds, but most can pull it off pretty well even on the hardest difficulty.
>>
>>337384253
The end-area was tweaked ages ago Anon, it's much more managable right now.

Crossbow builds still have some problems, but you can farm Deep Worms to make a fuck ton of corrosive acid bolts so it's not that bad.

WL2 is a solid 4/10. Only merit is an okay story, the rest ofthe game is janky with horrendous combat. Ugly as shit too, F2 honestly looks better, just style wise at least.

Underrail is pretty good. I actually ended up really liking the lack of a party. Lore is cool and story is pretty okay. But the game part is really fun, lots to explore, combat is good.

The pillars are somehow related to psionic projection, but it goes both ways.
That is, you can only learn Bilocation, that allows you to create a doppleganger for someone.
But Jookhela the rathound managed to learn how to project copies of herself from the pillars in the sewers.

There are three options here. Someone might have sic'ed a doppleganger on him, he learned Bilocation while working with the pillars and it fucked him in the ass, or what happened to him is not related to the pillars at all.

I think styg was trying to work that 'point-and-click adventure' vibe in DC. there's a lot of inspect this, combine this with this, use this on this to get this to combine with this e.t.c

But i totally agree that it doesn't lend itself well to the game.

>Did they fix it in the DC?
Kind of. They added a "target a body part" menu à la Fallout. It's also less fucked up in term of general mechanics and action point but could still be 10.000 times better. Fuck I'm actually kind of mad, because they could have just copy-pasted JA2 combat system and that would have been perfect.

Most likely. There is only one place that gets talked about a lot but we can't visit, the Tartarus Maximum Security Prison. So there's reason to believe that's where it goes. Might be something interesting there worthy of an expansion. I mean, aside from magma. Lots and lots of magma.

Kind of clunky to be honest, but they had the right idea and it's definitely a game worth giving a shot. Very demanding, though. You can't really play it in quick sessions, you have to dedicate the time to sit down, take notes, and play through it in a matter of days.

I wanted to show you some screenhots of the gameplay, but I don't have it installed anymore and for whatever reason the log in button disappeared from GOG. Anyone knows what's up with that?

Here's a hint. Fucking elevators, man.

Right, now I remember.

I remember it every fucking day when I enter one of these. It's been months, and I still go
>wait where have I seen this before?
every goddamn time. It's the kind of annoying shit that makes you want to strangle the writer even if it's a complete coincidence.

Semi-related question, what game should I play next on my laptop after I've finished Shadowrun: Dragonfall?
>BG2 (loved the first)
>finish Fallout 1, then go for the sequel (I wasn't completely sold on the hours I've played until now, but I heard Fallout 2 is better)
>Underrail
>Wasteland 2
>>
>>337399192
In that order:
BG2
Fallout 1
Fallout 2
and either Wasteland/Underrail, I would go with Underrail

>>337399482
I second this. Make sure to get Ascension and Wheel of Prophecy for Throne of Bhaal.

Oddity or Classic XP system?
>>
>>337400641
Definitely oddity if it's your first run.
>>
Fallout New Vegas is the best Fallout 2 sequel in terms of story.

Wasteland 2 is a sequel in terms of mechanics.

Also the fixpack
>>
>>337400641
Oddity is more fun and better balanced.

Should I get this?

>modding your first playthrough
Get the fuck back to rebbit or wherever you came from.
>>
>>337402572
>not using Ascension
Are you retarded or just pretending?
>>
>>337402572
Ascension is how ToB was meant to be and was made by Gaider. There's no reason not to use it.

>modding your first playthrough
Great tips, bro! Upvoted.
>>
>>337403010
So you are retarded
>>
>>337403126
How mad are you, bro?
>>
>>337402934
Well, ToB is not really worth playing, Ascension or not. And Ascension makes the final bossfight even more fucking tedious. As if it wasn't already bad enough vanilla.
>>
>>337396547
There may or may not be a secret ending.

But you do not need to know that.
>>
I can't progress any further in Underrail.

I made a knife/stealth build that worked fantastically at first. But now that I'm running into more robots and dudes in metal armor, I barely do any damage.

The only way I can win fights against them is abusing the fuck out of traps and grenades. Should I just reroll?
>>
>>337405645
Nah, why would you? Your build doesn't have to be optimal against all kinds of enemies.

You could, for example, just sneak past them. Shouldn't be a problem. Bots tend to have pretty shit fov, and only a few have true sight.
>>
how's Underrail compare to NEO Scavenger?

Cool thanks

This game sucks.
>>
>best armor has a portrait
>you can see people wearing it all over the place
>BUT YOU CAN'T BUY IT FUCKING ANYWHERE
Hands down my biggest complaint with underrail.
>>
>>337408686
Which armor?
>>
>>337409575
The STALKER armor with the gas mask and the hood.
>>
>>337403840
>not really worth playing
??
ToB is still good even if it is more linear than SoA. I enjoyed the encounters and Watcher's Keep was fun. Also git gud
>>
>>337409749
Gas mask doesn't show on the character model? Huh.
