Both Morrison and Reyes were involved in an early US Military Soldier Enhancement program (which I can only assume is less Deus Ex augmentations and more Captain America Super Serum but whatever). Reyes wanted Mercy to operate on his Enchancements to make him ~the perfect soldier~ or whatever, and did.... something to Mercy that made her do it. Something went terribly wrong during that operation, which might be related to Overwatch HQ blowing the fuck up.
That explains why there's a decent amount of bantz between Reaper and Mercy. When Mercy rezzes Reaper sometimes he says "Well at least you got it right THIS time..."

Taimanin Asagi actually had a very interesting plot and if I was going to ignore it, I'd just download the CG gallery. The porn parts are even better with the context added. In the case of Captive Market, I felt legitimate discomfort during some scenes.
