I've lost any and and all faith in Paradox a long time ago. The fact they're trying to market their shit to actual mainstream audiences now just shows you how much they've outgrown their "niche".
Stellaris is a poorly-conceived idea from its root. The 'variety' aspect of it ("what empire will you build?") is meaningless set dressing that has very little impact on the boring and shallow gameplay. It doesn't even have that autism-attracting quality of historical map painters.
Like, congratulations, you defeated your big 'fascist' empire and now the biggest blob on the map is your 'democratic technocracy' blob. What now, asshole? It's just anonymous colors on a bland randomized chartmap.
It took Paradox many many years to make a space game, and they only did this when their company reached casualization critical mass. This leads me to believe they actually had the idea before, but decided against it for the reasons above. It's only now that they care more about making endless $$$ from DLC jewry and the retarded redditors crowd that they chose to go ahead and release something like this.

Human empire with the same back story I used for gal civ 3, the basic premises: An alternate earth where the left minded seperated from the right minded, the right could not stand it after the apartheid was abolished and as the left governed most of the goverment, the right decided to leave Earth to the left. It's important to note that the apartheid was only abolished in my fictitious alternate world in the year 2429, a year where space travel is affordable and colonization and terra manipulation is efficient.
The right intend to show what a planet free of niggers might achieve compared to the original earth where niggers are intermixed. Eventually in my playthrough I'd like a full gas the kike race war now moment where Earth and the metaphorical Aryan race meet up and fight until the death.

Not that guy and I definitely liked parts of Endless Space, but ES had a horribly boring endgame in a genre where endgames already tend to be the worst part of the game.
My biggest hope for Stellaris is that it'll make the endgame more interesting than the average 4X where you've technically already won the game but still need to conquer the other half of the galaxy or sit on your ass researching for another 50 turns to hit the win condition.
I'll just pirate it because I'm not giving money to Paradox until they fix multithreading in CK2.

I don't ask to have full fledged, tactical spesh combat, but just giving my fleets some sort of combat strategy they would utilize in fighting would be neat.
Endless Space had a sorta okish system with the different tactical maneuvers you could put on your fleets that they would utilize in combat.

People who want actual tactical TBS/RTS style combat in a massive space grand strategy game actually haven't stopped and thought what they're asking for. It's like those people who want every "fight" in HoI3 to be a RTS minigame.
If you actually had to manually control every single fight in a game where you potentially had hundreds of thousands of units and hundreds of fleets fighting over hundreds of planets or sectors or whatever you fight over, a single game would take literally over 500 hours to complete. One single game. And you know what would that result in? Everyone using auto-resolve for 99.9% of battles, so we're back at the system we have here.

The three confirmed Apocalypse Scenarios are
- Robot War
- 40k Chaos Demons Invade From Another Dimension
- Galactic Invaders
Of all three, I'd say only the third one is like the mongols. Since it's broadly out of your control.
The other two are triggered by technology instead and are somewhat under your control.
Researching technology into either AI or Jump Travel (basically 40k style jump-into-demon-dimension-and-jump-out-close-to-target) can have great benefits for your faction. But they can also go wrong and cause those apocalypse scenarios.
The other factions know this too, and could try to stop you trying it. Ancient (very bored) Empires exist in the game, powerful enough to wipe you out for most of the game, but passive otherwise. But if they see you fucking around with Hell-Jumping tech or AI, they will tell you to stop. And if you don't they will not be happy.
But that's also the same for you. If you know your neighbor is bringing AI to the world, you might want to go stop him. Or not, if it could be convenient for you and you can handle them (they will out work and out research every other race if left alone).
Personally i want to see if i can fight one apocalypse by causing another one. Wipe out AI by opening Chaos in their midst.

And i assume at some point your race's technological ability will surpass the point where the AI are dangerous to you. But that's very, very end game.
A big part of the game is making it so the player never feels the boredom that happens at the end of Civ for example, where you know you've won and are just mopping up.
In this one a big empire can have civil wars and factions break away, cultural shifts etc. And technologies that can win you the game - like portals into other dimensions which are hands down the best FTL method - can also bring forth the rape demons.

Other way around, the more you use and rely on AI and free and fast production it provides, the more chances it will rebel, but you actually need to invest into AI big chunk of your time and research for it to happen. There no "safe" option, but risky ones don't mean they will rebel 100%, you will need to take few ones before it happen
