Federation Force and Color Splash both got incredibly negative reception from fans to the point where Nintendo even acknowledged the former's reception and is trying to rebrand the game a bit in its marketing. Not to mention all the other times fans have completely shit all over Nintendo for being underwhelming (E3 2008, Other M, E3 2015, etc.) The two games you listed are poor examples. There's nothing terribly wrong with NSMBU, it's a fine, but generic, platformer. They aren't showing the NX at E3 because the factory that was supposed to produce the CPUs for the E3 showcase consoles fucked up the CPU and the kits won't be ready for E3 so no one will be able to play the console. Nintendo didn't want to show the games only, and go "Yeah well sorry but you can't play them because reasons" so they're focusing on Zelda Wii U and cancelled all NX plan. And with the growth of the internet and more direct feeds to their fans and news outlets, like Facebook and Twitter, they aren't too far off from e3 losing relevancy as a place for people to get news.
Think about it, I remember when I could watch e3 coverage on TV. It was a time I actually tuned in for. Then the channels that did that either faded out of existence (G4/Tech TV), got bought out by Microsoft for exclusivity (Spike), or something else entirely.

Honestly as a "nintendo fan", I want to live in denial of this, at least until E3 actually happens. No falseflagging, I just can't see Nintendo passing up a free advertising opportunity like this so easily. It seems more like them to wait and suddenly put up the schedule for their E3 direct near the end of May, due to how little they seem to care about risking publicity at all. That's the thing with Nintendo, they seem to only want good publicly, and only if it can be acquired safely. This really does feel like Nintendo looked at the response last E3 gave them, and now they respond with "well, we got bad publicity last year cause you guys didn't like our amiibo games, so its just better to not tell you anything at all." They don't seem to understand that NO information is also bad publicity, and in fact WORSE then any publicity at all. It would be better to at least talk about the games people seem to hate, rather then just pretending nothing is being made and leave it at that.
