Honestly, modded Skyrim is a terrible experience. You download and install a simple bug fix mod and in turn it makes loading times 5x longer than they use to be and the game will randomly crash to desktop every few hours.

I don't like to mess with the intended aesthetic of older games but the true master mods are those that add high resolution and widescreen support along with the necessary UI size changes. Otherwise you would be stuck with upscaling something like 800x600 to 1920x1080 with black bars

The reason for it is because graphics are much easier to show off than modded-in content or changes, you can't always show off a gameplay overhaul with screenshots. Content depends on what it actually is.

Modding Skyrim is indeed a terrible experience for the wrong reasons, but not for what you listed. A simple bug fix should be a mere plugin which I doubt causes save bloat unless it has a poorly-made script, which then it wouldn't be so simple. Something else is up on your end.
The worst part really is just doing a fuckton of maintenance overall once you get into it. Many people spend more time modding the game than playing it, ironically a game of its own.

Lighting is the most important part of visuals when it comes to achieving great or even realistic looks.
That's why ENB and ReShade are so important. Even with mediocre textures, they can be made to shine a lot more with good lighting.

Skyrim and Fallout 4 are probably the best games that came out in the last 5 years, mainly because of their extreme freedom with mods and modifications.
They are both absolutely laughable and pathetic in terms of gameplay and mechanics, but their simple-ness and moddableness makes 'em two of the most absolutely interesting and never-ending games that ever came out from the videogame industry.
We all agree that bethesda is cancer and they put no joy or passion in their games, but the sheer amount of possibilities that their retarded "assets kits" sold as games gives the userbase is so much fucking endless that even 10 years later, you'll still have people talking and playing these games, like how it is happening for Fallout 3, New Vegas, Oblivion and Morrowind.
You just can't stop the mod train.

I've modded Skyrim almost solely for realism.
I can't go from Whiterun to Rorikstead without planning for the trip.
I can do max 1v2 fights. I flee and hide from bandits immediately.
I also kick ass in fights tho, and if I went back to vanilla I would probably annihilate on legendary mode.
Oblivion was in a fortunate position where most of its fuckups could be addressed with mods, while things outside of modder's reach were generally not bad.
Skyrim doesn't have that. There will never be mods for many of its core problems. It runs better than Oblivion though, wrap your head around that.

i actually think that a lot of love goes into their worlds and their art. also their music is so good. and some of the gameplay mechanics aren't bad and show some effort. skyrim's combat was the first time i would describe TES combat as "well, at least it's not total shit like last time" and fallout 4 made some decent progress towards good funplay. the gameplay flaws come from bethesda diluting the RPG features and making everything scale to you. their writers are legit shit though. fallout 4's writing seemed like they hired a high schooler and told him to write at story.

I made mine in a sense of an actual fantasy world(Middle-high fantasy) but a very coherent world within with stupid levels of layered content from various games
The idea is that you can start off a lowly farmer and then rise to be a small buisness owner and eventually become a wealthy cross nation merchant to eventually a king
or become a adventuer which is incredibly dangerous as you could be killed(dead is dead nigga) enslaved and ravaged by bandits/falmer or worse but can eventually become a near god like figure, if magic is your fancy becoming a lich and running a undead capital city

Usually when the combat is bad in an RPG it can always fall back on its quests, but since most of Skyrim's quest are literally "go into this draugr infested place and fetch this item for me", there's no good reason to play the game for the story or quests either.
So what does the game offer then? Exploration I guess, but it's still lackluster and feels unrewarding because of scaled loot, so you have no reason to actually go into a dungeon without quests. And the dungeons don't really have good level design either.

ENBs in general have massive performance hits, so lube up. You need a really respectable rig to run 60fps with any decent preset.
One of the most lightweight non-shit presets is Clarity ENB, but it has sort of a sepia tone not everyone enjoys. I like bleak/unbleak and their lowest presets are pretty reasonable too. Everything from grim and somber page is good, but again a bit heavier. I'm not big into super realistic presets so can't help you there.

Most DoF in games look like it was made by someone who is short-sighted - human visual acuity gives us pretty good long range vision. Just because most monitors are small doesn't mean a game needs insane levels of DoF to simulate how eyes focus on far away objects. Not really - suspension of disbelief kicks in for vidya and people will overlook bad graphics if the game is engaging to them. Excessive DoF shatters this because it stops you engaging with the atmosphere of the world around you because you can't fucking see what it is.

I think I actually prefer vanilla Skyrim with or without 2k texture pack.
ENB's can look amazing but for every amazing scene there is another scene that has overblown bloom and contrast and messed up colors, ENB's are as good looking as they are inconsistent, and when I'm playing and trying to get immersed it is really immersion breaking when things just don't look right because of an ENB.
Vanilla lighting works it's just not anything to call home about. The 2K textures mod is usually the only thing I might install since it was made painstakingly to blend in perfectly with all of Skyrims environments.

Skyrim would benefit immensely from HDR simply because it would help give the required contrast between a stone slab and a lush forest. Winterhold in particular would benefit as the snow would "pop" next to the stone the city is built from.
