They get paid wages for working the event. It's something like 165,000 for 17-19 people, not split evenly. They don't have an incentive to switch to a charity that won't pay their wages, let alone pay for the event.
Mike Uyama, the "founder" of GDQ has been absent from speedrunning for more than two fucking years, refuses to talk to the community, and spends almost all of his free time playing Marvel Heroes while he "recovers" from a mysterious illness which he hasn't disclosed. He still receives a big chunk of cash from the charity because he partnered with them.
Like it isn't a conspiracy, but it fucking sucks.

PCF is a fucking joke. They have no presence at the event or on the stream. MSF had a table set up with representatives during all of SGDQ 2015. They would give you pamphlets, cards, and merchandise if you ever asked, and were always open to talking.
PCF's goal is educating people about cancer, yet they don't use the audience of more than 100,000 people to their advantage. They have no presence on stream, they don't do a good job of making it clear what they do on stream, and if people did know what they do (AGDQ 2014's money went to funding the #checkyourmate campaign, which depicted straight and gay couples cupping each others genitals and breasts, censored with fruit) they wouldn't be donating as much.
They're being a little more clear where things are going with SGDQ this year, thank fuck - but only because they've been hounded about it for a year now.
I'm not going to say that PCF deliberately keeps people in the dark instead of doing their purported job, but they don't do a very good job of it.

I don't expect anything good from sgdq this year, they've killed off one of the main reasons why these things got big anyways. In about 2 years the events will be full Normie's and people will complain about how any speed run over a half hour is too long. Look at agdq and how everyone was in the main room at the start for about 2 hours and then they whole event was sparcely populated. 1. Jewama making a deal with PCF that he would get a cut of the donations, but in return they would be stuck with the PCF and PCF would have huge leverage on what happens on the stream.

Each craft have different skills.
Speedrunning is about memorisation and parcticing perfect execution, Machining is about intimate knowledge of metals and what tools are best to shape them in what conditions. Competitive team sports are about teamwork. Martial arts are, often, about fitness and overcoming your opponent mentally.
The thing is, every craft can be undermined the way you do. Boxing is just about moving around and punching with the correct timing. Drawing is just practicing a steady hand, proportions and perspectives. Racing is just going really fast, chess is just moving pieces aroudn the board better than your opponent.

A comfy speed channel is /speedgaming. They did speedruns of almost the entire SNES catalog the other month. Most of the runners were pretty competent at self-commentating and being informative, including god-tier Yawgmoth with Secret of Mana. They do regular tournies which are fun, but kind of wear thin after seeing Link to the Past for a week.
I'd sub to AGDQ if they completely cut out the announcer's audio feed for it. Shut the fuck up. Donations should only be read in between games. If people bitch about it then I guess their heart wasn't in the right place for donating to a good cause, wasn't it?
