Growing up with Doom, and I mean the actuaal Doom not BrutalDoom or whatever, this looks like fun but too fast. I have no goddamn clue where everyone is coming up with it being too slow or how Doom was always fast. I never got that impression back in like 92.

But then again I'm really not the audience here. They want balding 20 somethings that wear tight pants and horn rimmed glasses, not 30 somethings that remember a world without the internet. So whatever works I guess.

Quality over Quantity as far as enemy design is concerned is not acceptable. I don't want to take on one enemy at a time. Also enemy design sucks aside from the Baron of Hell. Executions are stupid and are used as a crutch for improper level design and ammo placement.

DOOM was never about aiming. It was about dodging projectiles, picking targets, and using your weapons in creative ways. I don't want to hunt down and pin down every imp. I want to kill three of them in a row with a well placed super shotgun hit from the proper angle.

We'll have to play the game to find out, in Doom4s case.

Interesting though, I notice in the monster codexs they had levels to them, and I saw an armored variation of one enemy during some Mars footage. So im thinking the higher level the enemy the more defense and attack capabilities they have.

They put alot of thought into the weapon mods and functionality while balancing it with the wheel, so im anticipating something similar with the enemies too.

The next checkpoint is on this teleporter thing that has a cage around it, so it seems he has to kill all the monsters to open it up. He fails at this and dies. When he respawns, the cage lifts on the teleporter and he enters it, only to be teleported to a spot in the area he had already been running around when he was killing monsters to open the teleporter. What the fuck is the point of making that teleporter a checkpoint thing if it only leads to an area you can already access without it?

If a mechanic like that is in the game, then the game is designed with that mechanic in mind.
The balance is built around having that mechanic, and so are the enemies.
It's like telling someone to turn off the quest markers in Skyrim if he doesn't like them. Sure, alright, but there are no quest descriptions or a journal in the game, so good fucking luck playing through the game without quest markers.
You can't just tell people to ignore a mechanic they don't like, it's not how video games are designed.

I actually liked Doom 3 for what it was.
It had stunning graphics and pretty good art direction.
Was it a bad doom game? probably. Was it a bad game? Not at all.

This D44M tries so hard to be "DOOD LOOK DAEMONS AND BRUTALITY RIP AND TEAR" to the point where you don't know if you're actually playing a sequel or a parody.
Plus it shits on the legacy by just using the name DOOM unumbered.

Overall: It's still too slow for Doom, the executions seem pointless, the monsters don't pose much of a threat. I suppose I like the idea of having lots of weapons to choose from in a fight. And a weapon wheel with a slowdown might be the best bet if you're a console pleb since you don't have as many keys handily available compared to a keyboard. Still, though, the way i envision a Doom game--you shouldn't get to take a breather while you casually go through your weapon inventory. I'd probably remove the slowdown and narrow down the weapons to only the most essential.

Honestly? Almost nothing about that looks good in any way to me. Enemy and level design are bad. Game is slow. Weapons don't look good and seem unsatisfying - wtf @ the plasma rifle in particular. Melee kills are a fucking drag. Not enough enemies on screen at once.

And I actually think it looks too cartoonish. I would've expected something more edgy from a new Doom. It's not disturbing enough. They don't have the balls anymore to make it fucked up it seems.
