Most of the worlds were great, but I did not like the one that was mostly water stages.
World 5 re-used the streets and casino stages from a previous world so that kind of sucked.

It's not improved at all, it's more of the same but smaller. Each world only has 2 or 3 well designed and fun levels, no co op, boss fights have a lot of fucking waiting for them to stop dicking around in the background, miracle fruit sections were an absolute chore. Only Royal Road felt like 9/10 material, a lot of the rest was just okay.

The bosses are much better, more creative attack patterns, more stages etc, the only one that has that waiting problem is the fire frog, no bland bosses rehashed to death like those birds things in the dark dimension, the level design in general is improved, more tight, better puzzles, foreground/background stuff, more and better collectables, hypernova wasn't great but was still better than the super abilities, better soundtrack too.

If you mean the Big Bad Evil Guy or something, kinda but not really. It had a consistent trilogy of games as the main antagonist but Sakurai didn't have anything to do with those besides voicing Dedede in 64 so while he was still around this trilogy got very little reference in other Kirby games. Now that we're in a new age of Kirby though, it looks like the series can finally embrace those games on an even level to Adventure and Superstar.

There's an entity in the series known as Dark Matter, which has made multiple appearances in different forms since its debut in Kirby's Dream Land 2. Zero first appeared in Dream Land 3, and there's the implication that it's either the source of all Dark Matter/a matured adult form of Dark Matter. A resurrected Zero (Zero Two) appeared in Kirby 64, but hasn't made an appearance since.
Dark Matter has always been present in the series, but after years of related bosses (Dark Mind/Dark Nebula) and implied connections we're finally seeing Dark Matter itself reappearing in more games. There's the expectation that Zero will come back as well, given how closely connected it is to Dark Matter.

Dark Matter is basically an Alien Hivemind.
Zero is its leader. Zero was killed but was half-revived by the Crystal in Kirby 64. (02) He lost his emotions entirely and wants everyone as depressed as him.
He's notably for being an incredibly gory boss but its just entry level shit. The boss is unnerving on a lot of levels.

I did not play that game, but just running through the levels you typically only get 2/3 of the cubes. There are three cubes per level to collect.

DL2 and other Dark Matter games are all connected to each other, but from what I know they have a hard time fitting in with Sakurai's games like Adventure and Super Star (correct me if I'm wrong though). These new games, especially Robobot, are connecting both "eras" together.
